  1. I can only speak for myself but I only purchased 3D Coat for it's UV mapping and Painting tools, the whole sculpting thing and all it's associated tools were just a tangent to me, interesting but never going to be used as I'm a mesh modeller and 3D Coat was the perfect mapping and painting tool for my requirements. As long as the UV Mapping and Painting tools are stable and work as expected then I'm a happy bunny. If, on the V3 final release, after so much time and effort has been spent on the programme, the UV Mapping and Painting tools are buggy and substandard then I doubt I will continue to use the programme, as "to me" they are the foundation on which the whole programme rests.
  2. I've been using V3 since it first came out, personally I'm happy with the suggestion to pick a stable release number if it's going to be different from V37-08B and call V3 finished. I'm not expecting any of the V4 tools to be included either, I'm satisfied with what V3 has on offer, stability is the main factor for me.
  3. That's a nicely painted skin, plenty of detail, it renders well too.
  4. Polyxo, Yes, polygroups would be a great idea if they could be assigned as seperate for material purposes. Say I made a model of a wine botle in voxels, then retopo'd the bottle and UV'd it in 3DCoat. At the moment I could paint a label on the bottle but the map would apply to the rest of the bottle as well though I wanted the bottle to have a glass shader, or export the mesh to another application to create a label material zone, or use seperate UV's which I then have to flatten the maps in another application. Would be great to start and finish the model in 3DCoat only, and material zones is the only thing that prevents that happening for me at the moment.
  5. Hello, I created a low poly object and retopo'd it for painting and am very pleased with the workflow so far. After UV mapping the retopo mesh for painting I was struck by how helpful it would be to be able to select poly's in the retopo room and assign material zones to them. I couldn't find a way to do this so ended up assigning different UV's to the object and combining the seperate maps in Photoshop afterwards so all worked out in the end as I'd hoped, with one map and several materials to apply that one map to. I've done a good search of the manual and the forums to see if setting up material zones is possible in 3DCoat but I can't find a method to do this without either exporting the retop mesh into a modeller and setting them up there or using seperate UV's and combining the maps in Photoshop. It would be great to be able to skip these option altogether and work entirely in 3DCoat. I'll be more than happy if I'm wrong and I've missed a trick somewhere, if I have please tell me:) Cheers.
  6. This really is a nice peice of modelling, I'm surprised at how sharp the edges are, whenever I try to use 3DC for modelling I canot seem to acheive such sharpness of the edges, which is why I always go back to other modelling applications for mesh creation. I suppose I will need to look into the modelling aspect of 3DC further as I only really use it for UV and painting. This model is very impressive, nice work.
  7. Just FYI, you can imoprt a single mesh like a sphere for example, and as long as you've set up different material zones for different polys in Hex then it will treat those material zones seperately in 3DCoat also. Open the Object Materials pop-up window to select or hide the different zones for painting.
  8. Hello everyone, The new polygon reduction tool is very interesting and it seems it is going to improve greatly as time goes by. But there's a noob question I have to ask as I don't quite get how it works fully Though it will reduce the polygon count for Voxels, is it possible to import a mesh and then use the tool to reduce the polygons of the mesh on export, even though it's not a Voxel created object. It would be very handy for reducing the polycount on some objects I've made outside of 3DC if it can work that way. I'm not a sculptor as such, some of the sculpts on here are amazing. I got 3DC for UV mapping and painting on meshes but it's full of nice surprises. Thanks,
  9. Super programme, it saves me so much time. This release feels very stable and steady to use, thanks for all your hard work, I've never known so much good effort put into an application before. Thanks
  10. The Cuda - non Cuda question interests me as I have the non Cuda version. However I recently updated my drivers and the new drivers have Cuda enabled. Can I now start using the Cuda version by installing over the top of my non Cuda version or are the two versions of 3D Coat too dissimilar? Thanks,
  11. Thanks geothefaust Yes it's all working provided I get the steps in the right order and don't miss anything out it's just learning the details, the Penguin video only goes so far I'm looking forward to starting my next modelling project and using 3D Coat to it's full advantage, it should raise the quality of my models and maps a few levels. Thanks for your help, this forum is a great resource for newbies like me.
  12. Thanks for the quick reply geothefaust, I got it working ok in the end What I think I was doing was trying to Apply UV's after creating my edges but before I had unwrapped the map! I haven't had the demo long (3 days) so I'm still feeling my way around and making my own hash of it, I might have contributed to my own problems by doing things a bit backwards. I'll try your fix if I run into any more problems with the mapping and saving of textures but fingers crossed it's doing ok now I'm taking more care I UV'd what I wanted in the end and am mightily impressed! I can get on with mapping and texturing with some speed and confidence now, 3D Coat is way ahead of what I was hoping for. I got the ok from the wife to spend the money so I'm going to purchase the license this weekend. Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated!
  13. Hi all, I'm using the demonstration download of version 3 and am very impressed with what 3D Coat can do. I'm getting good results from UV Mapping but have come upon an issue which may just be me not really being good with the software yet. I find creating seams is very easy and intuitive and the 3D Coat UV Mapping features takes a lot of the hard work out of making good maps but when I have made my seams and sliced up the object to my satisfaction with what looks like a good map, I select Apply UV Set to apply the map onto the object I get the This Operation Cannot Be Undone message, I click OK and 3D Coat hangs, with a Not Responding message. I can't seem to get past this. By selecting Unwrap I can make my map apply in the little UV preview window OK but when I export the object the map is as it was when it was auto mapped when I first brought the object into 3D Coat. Can't get it to Apply UV Set. I'm using Vista and the GL version. I really like this programme but am wondering if it's just me being a dummy noob or someone else has the same problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
