  1. Could you please provide locations within my 3dcoat install where I can add the brushes. Simply installing the 3dcpack did not add the brushes to my pallet
  2. painting - first layer, smart material with texture; second layer, smart material with no/smooth texture Problem: I want the second layer to not have the texture of the first layer. Currently is just paints over the old texture but using the new color. I want the new layer to remove the texture from the base coat and just be smooth Thank you
  3. Trying to use xp-pen for sculpting. I have the brush set to constant pressure and radius. Out of nowhere it starts changing radius. I may have something setup incorrectly, but no idea what. 4.9.72 Thank you!
  4. Carlosan, that got me going in the right direction. SOLVED Apparently, following directions is fairly important. This is on Windows 10. I read the instructions - specifically for Windows 10, start from the start menu. I did that - as administrator - and was able to launch 3dc. I added a shortcut to 3dc after successfully launching, and that worked also.
  5. Carlosan, that won't work because I get the problem before the UI even launches. Even opening a .3b file that I know is small enough it be launched fails with the errors related to the prior session. Thanks for your help.
  6. I had used 4.9.73 but had triggered an out of memory error. I downgraded back to 4.9.05, but launching 3dc still gives errors related to previous session failures. How do I get 3dc to forget about the problems of the previous session and start new clean one? Thank you.
  7. Silas, true confession: I've been a 3d coat nube for about ten years. I've never had the bandwidth or foundational knowledge to actually do the things needed to become expert. For example, I've never used the bake room. Ditto retopo and maybe others. I use paint and sculpt. I took what little understanding I had of your suggestions and those from Carlosan and blundered into a workable way of getting what I wanted. Never underestimate not knowing what your doing to inadvertently discover something useful.
  8. 3d coat easy physical texturing for 3d printing (4.9.72) By Jim Abshire Problem statement: I needed a way to create a 3d printable model that had a high fidelity physical texture to the one I created using a smart material Solution: import a model into sculpt room – IMPORT WITHOUT VOXELIZATION should be checked – we want to be in surface mode (see image) 2. use W to show wireframe of surface density in sculpt room Surface tools, subdivide until wireframe is dense enough to hold the detail you need go to Paint room choose a smart material and move the preview window over part of the model adjust the preview to your liking choose the fill tool, then “layer” in dialog box, then “agree” to fill the layer if it doesn’t suit you, repeat steps 6 thru 7 until it is satisfactory change back to the sculpt room choose File > Export > Export scene choose a suitable location and name for the textured model you will be prompted for reduction amount – choose what you prefer click OK – you are done Go take a look at the textured model
  9. I want to always import without voxelization to be checked. Thanks
  10. Is there a way to use the various maps created from an exported model painted with a smart material as the mask/stencil in the sculpt room to add that texture to the same model? I like the rendered texture from the paint room, but trying to emulate that texture while sculpting is hard for me to do well. End objective is to 3d print a model that looks close to the one in the paint room (without color info obviously).
  11. Sorry for the long delay. So I actually had two problems in 3d coat if I left the Tablet Library setting to WinTab - both the radius of the brush and the depth changed as I moved the stylus. Setting Tablet Library to TabletPC fixed these issues.
  12. So, after playing with the settings a bit, it appears to be related to Detaching/Attaching to the surface. Detaching provides a smoothly drawn line, attaching to the surface provides a "dabbed" line. I usually use attach to surface, but it appears something changed at 4.9.05 or somewhat before. See attachment
  13. Do mean is the bsplines box is checked?
  14. Attached is an example that illustrates four stroking modes. The first three work as expected. The fourth, curve stroke, behaves in a non-preferred way. It appears to be comprised of visible dabs along the curve. I do not have paint with dabs checked, but spacing is checked. I would prefer to be able to specify a curve stroke and have it draw continuously. Thank you for any feedback,
  15. I am trying to use XP Pen deco 01 with 3dcoat. When I reposition the pen tip on the tablet and press down on the tablet to begin a stroke, something somewhere causes 3d coat to dynamic change the depth setting as I am moving the stylus across the tablet. I tried locking the depth but this didn't stop the problem. Anyone have thoughts on what I am missing? Thank you.
  16. I increased resolution in the underlying mesh and that made the difference. Brush was then better, but stencil looked a bit worse.
  17. I have a tif image that works fine as a stencil, but using the save image as a brush produced poor results: In the image above the stencil version is in the middle, brush versions are above and below. Thoughts on what I might do to get better quality for the brush version?
  18. I need to play with this some more. Even in sculpt room it appears to be painting
  19. I would like to use multiple stencils at the same time in 3dc without creating a new stencil in photoshop. Is there a technique to do this?
  20. I noticed that this problem goes back 7 years. The docs say they work together, but dabs becomes deselected once the brush moves. I am in the sculpt room. I can use surface>draw with spacing and seems to work. It "smears" if I use liveclay>extrude. Does dabs do anything? I am using the manual but not sure what I'm doing wrongly.
  21. Certainly useful information. I think I learned some things and discovered how to see the stencil mapping on the object: The circled controls in the upper right can be pressed to reveal the stencil mapping. For some of the mapping options, click on settings to see the mapping. Notice the check box in the lower left of the dialog box to Show Preview. Sliders will change the mapping.
  22. Is there a way to observe the mapping / wrapping of a stencil on the target mesh in full prior to actually transferring brush strokes? with camera view you get to see the stencil much better for things like sizing, rotating, etc. I want to be able to position the stencil exactly against the mesh. Thanks
  23. I assume the importing of curves/lines is intended to provide path guides for brush strokes. Is there a video on this? Thanks.
  24. I've attached a screen shot. What is the difference in behavior of choosing bsplines or not? By splines I have assumed we are referring to the lines we setup to guide the brush when we have chosen the noted option in the E panel.
