Member maggot Posted May 9, 2008 Member Report Share Posted May 9, 2008 .sia files aren't much different to .asc files, and having the feature to import those or .sib files within 3dcoat would be very useful. Currently I'm having to create obj files for each scene in silo and then edit the .mtl file in order to paint. .sia files are better for me as I can edit them. Advanced Member yukon_28 Posted May 9, 2008 Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 9, 2008 I does not think Andrew will implement silo's format to 3dc anytime soon, and i think its OK. I'll explain why: obj is the most universal file format accepted by any 3d software, so its become universal format for geometry exchange. Of course for you, as silo user, its easier to open silo files straight from 3dc, but for me, as max and modo user, its better to open .max and .lxo files, and to maya users .ma files are better choice, for cinema users .c4d files, for zbrush users .ztl, and so on, this list may be very long. So, because of this issue any program today can read\write .obj files and they become a standard for exchange.
Advanced Member ldzywsj Posted May 9, 2008 Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 9, 2008 Releasing 3dc sdk should be the best way to solve this kind of problem , so other developers in this forum can make plugins or exchanges to other apps for 3dc. Yes, it is absolutely right. SDK will be solution for many formats export/import. I hope, it will be done soon, at least SDK for export/import. Advanced Member Roger_K Posted May 10, 2008 Advanced Member Report Share Posted May 10, 2008 personally an SDK sounds more worth while...... or an embedded scripting language :D (FYI im not being entirely serious on that point)
