RULES

1. You have 4 weeks -or more if needed- to work on something for the Challenge, starting on Sunday at 0001GMT, ending on Saturday 2359GMT.
2. Post all your WIPs into the same Challenge thread that you are participating in. Do not start a new thread for your own stuff if you wish to be judged for the Challenge. Please make the images at least 800x600 px. It's important that you also post your WIPS regularly, that is to say, if you do some work, post a WIP or two for each phase. Posting a WIP from the beginning, and then skipping to the final version isn't ideal. It's also important to mark each WIP as WIP in your post, and then when complete, mark the final version of the sculpture/painted sculpture with "FINAL VERSION", in all caps. This will help The Starter easily browse the thread when it comes time to judge.
3. 3DC MUST be used for all or the greater portion of the work in the Challenge. Painting: 80/20 split in favour of 3DC. Sculpting: 100% 3DC sculpting, no other tools can be used.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each entry in the current Challenge thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. The Winner is decided by public poll (which an Admin/Moderator will create at the end of the challenge), and wins the privilege to be The Starter of the next Challenge. This is crucial to keeping things fresh! So the person could supply a base model and say "texture this creature, depth can also be used but the base mesh cannot be modified", or something to that effect. See the specific Sculpting Challenges section below.

Paint Challenges:

The Starter must supply a mesh, or ask for a mesh from the greater community if they wish. The base mesh as supplied by The Starter cannot be modified in any way, only textured (colour, spec, depth, emissive, etc. is all fine. Changing the base mesh in any way, is not ok.). The majority of painting must be done in 3DC, some Photoshop and other 2D painting tools is ok: Approximately a 80/20 split, in favour of 3DC. The only exception to editing the base mesh is to change/enhance the UV map.

Sculpting Challenges:

The Starter must either supply an idea for the Challenge, or a base mesh for the challengers to sculpt from.  All sculpting must be done within 3DC. For example "Sculpt the weirdest biotech-cybernetic implant for the human arm you can imagine", as an idea, Or; "Change this horse base mesh into anything you can think of, while still retaining the basic shape of the horse mesh" as a supplied base mesh. This Challenge type is open to a little more freedom by The Starter than Painting Challenges. The Starter can also determine if retopo is required or not, and if external render engines are allowed or not.

Combining types of Challenges:

It's more than OK to have a sculpting challenge also be a painting challenge when the sculpture is complete. If The Starter decides to, the challenge can be to sculpt then vertex paint, Or; Sculpt, retopo, UV map and paint in the paint room (The paint method should be specified too, such as Per Pixel, Microvertex or PTEX). All aspects of the work involved will be taken into account forr judging the winner of the challenge.

Some other rules to keep in mind:

1. If you win, and are now The Starter, try to keep the ideas in a realm of interest. ie, try to make sure others will be interested in participating. If you're having trouble coming up with stuff, it doesn't hurt to ask others for input. :)

2. This is a community ran project, and is not sponsored by Pilgway LTD (at the moment! :) ).

3. All rules are subject to change and new rules added without notice at the sole discretion of the Admin Team.

4. This is a friendly challenge. It will be a challenge of ones own skills, not against others. This is a way for everyone to improve their skills, whether it be painting, sculpting or even the more mundane stuff like UV mapping and retopo and to help others improve upon such with advice and positive critiquing.

5. Don't be afraid to participate! These challenges are open to all skill levels.

Thanks everyone, I hope it is fun for everyone. I look forward to seeing everyone working on awesome art works and helping each other out to create them, and improve all of our skill levels all the while.

Cheers!

PS - Thanks to TimmyZDesign and Vladimir for everything involving these challenges. Everyone has put in a lot of time and effort on this, so thanks!
