uv room - import objects - can't see them

Hi

Another thing I cannot figure out.

I have a model which I have applied uvs onto.

I then needed to import additional mesh items to uv which form part of my overall model.

In the uv room, I went to File>Import object.

I can see my objects in the paint room and tweak room, but I cannot see them in the uv room.

Any ideas how to make them show ?

I've tried unhide all command on the different uv sets and still nothing.

In order to see them in the uv room you need to  import them for autopo or retopo , you just cant import a 3d model and uv map it or unwrap it with out retopo first.

Its fuzzy and pixelated? Restart and by 99% it will clear out.

When you import and obj file you can see them across all the rooms.

When you import additional mesh items using File>Import Object I can't see it in uv Room

Then I fiddled with layers then I could see it, then I opened and closed the application and couldn't see it anymore in the uv room and it became fuzzy/pixelated.

Are these all bugs or is this normal ?

I am talking about un wrapping a model , at least this is what i remember.

For the rest issues  , try to import them one by one in a clean scene.

New scene for one wing , if its ok with no issues at all then something goes wrong when you import them as additionals.

Thanks very much guys, I'll import additional mesh items for uvmapping via the retopo room import option.

I'm glad I posted this question on the forum cause I would not have thought to import in the retopo room when I want to uvmap.

Thanks for you help Michael and Carlosan

I'm still stuck though.

I've imported my additional mesh item into the retopo room and it shows up green (see image below).

My imported green mesh item doesn't show in the Paint, Tweak or uv rooms. How do I make it show in the other room so that I can get on with my uvmapping ?

I found a video which explained what to do.

While still in retopo room Go to bake menu>Retopo->per pixel (no baking).

Now I can see it in the uv room and work with it.

Talk about complicated !

For that workflow:

Paint room

import model for PPP

If you need to add a new object

Import object

All the object are listed in UVroom, you can switch to any UVset to modify it

Thanks Gary, I'll keep that in mind.

@Carlosan

When I originally started this thread I used import object to add a new object to my existing scene and got that fuzzy/pixelated mesh. It probably works fine for simple objects like cubes and cylinders but when your working on aircraft I might have about 100 meshes to uv map and need to delete some meshes that have modelling issues fix them in my 3d app and then re-import them again.

I'll hopefully tame 3d coat one day. There is plenty of brilliance in it and also lots of quirkiness (for me anyway).

you get fuzzy pixelated mesh when you import a model for sculpt

the model need to be placed on XYZ and then to press apply at import settings to get the mesh in sculpt room

when you import on paint room the procedure is other

Thanks Carlo

I will import into the paint or retopo rooms in future even though I only want to do uv mapping.

I was still having all sorts of weirdness on this file with parts appearing in one room and not another and then disappearing from some rooms and reappearing so I exported everything out. Closed 3DC and reopened it with a fresh scene and reimported everything back in. For the moment all is working well and as I would expect and I have finished my uvmapping hooray !!!

I obviously did something early on that 3DC did not like and it continued to plague me.
