Guys is there a way to fade out the Environment map opacity from the viewport similar to Substance Painter as seen here? :

I do know about the ability to blur the Environment Map but depending on the map the results can be somewhat of a strain on the eyes.

I don't think there is a way to blur out completely. But you can turn off the environment map completely by camera-background-vertical gradient. You can do your work and if you want to see what it looks like with environment then chose camera-background-use environment- chose environment in your directory.

Hope this helps, and if someone else has a better answer I would like to know also.

Thanks for the response Denis.

If I'm honest this isn't a satisfactory workaround (no offense intended)  I have found a suitable HDRi that gives a neutral, flats-ish look with directional light in the viewport.  It doesn't bloom out when blurred so it's probably my personal solution for now until/if Andrew addresses this.

cheers
