Carlosan
Autodesk has bought Arnold and Solid Angle based in Madrid, Spain and in London, UK. The deal was first struck in December of last year, and finalized in February. The plan is for Solid Angle to be a standalone provider, in much the same way Autodesk has done with Shotgun. Solid Angle is now fully owned by Autodesk but sits apart in so far as the brand Solid Angle remains, as does the sales channels and the staff. Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted April 18, 2016 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted April 18, 2016 Sounds like they plan to add it to Maya and not 3ds Max. AD is trying hard to alienate Max from the Film/Game Cinematic industry, and force them to use Maya for that. That's why they just started decoupling Mental Ray/iRay from the default install and added ART, some arch viz render that isn't worth a flip for all other markets. Carlosan
Our challenge is that we cannot publicly disclose future features in future products so we are not able to say specifically what will be in future versions of 3ds Max and Maya and we are definitely not announcing Arnold availability with either of those products at NAB. Maya 2106 ext 2 and 3ds Max 2017 (announced at NAB) will both ship with mental ray. What we can say is that we are in the process of evaluating integration of Arnold with these products.
