Radeon Pro WX GPU

AMD's Polaris-based Radeon Pro WX GPUs can create VR content for under $1,000

AMD has scrapped the FirePro brand for its workstation GPUs as it tries to catch up with Nvidia in the professional graphics market

AMD is set to release three new professional GPUs as it looks to begin sunsetting its FirePro lineup.

The company said Monday night at graphics trade show SIGGRAPH that its new Radeon Pro WX 4100, Radeon Pro WX 5100, and Radeon Pro WX 7100 will be based on its latest Polaris architecture and are aimed at professional users.

Specs and pricing of the new cards weren’t immediately available, but the images don't indicate that AMD is going for the jugular in terms of performance, unlike arch-rival Nvidia.

AMD officials didn’t talk performance, but they did say the Radeon Pro WX 7100 will hit Steam’s VR performance requirements. Perhaps more importantly, said AMD's head of Industry Alliances David Watters, is the way AMD has organized its graphics unit going forward. Watters said competitor Nvidia must contend with its consumer GeForce products competing with its professional Quadro and Tesla lines.

Back in July AMD announced the Radeon Pro WX series. Part of a broader rebranding effort for AMD’s professional grade graphics cards – moving away from the FirePro brand and making everything part of the Radeon family – the WX series would also mark the first use of AMD’s latest-generation Polaris architecture in their pro cards. At the time of their announcement, AMD had not finalized the card specifications or launch date beyond Q4, but as of this week the cards are finally reaching AMD’s partners and retailers, and the final specifications are being released.

Does this make the Radeon a more attractive choice?

Update 11/8/2016: Nvidia reached back to us with and clarified that the newly added telemetric functions are a feature of Geforce Experience. Where error reporting and data was collected occasionally before, it is now collected in real time – which is what the new folder and processes are for.

GeForce Experience collects data to improve the application experience; this includes crash and bug reports as well as system information needed to deliver the correct drivers and optimal settings. NVIDIA does not share any personally identifiable information collected by GeForce Experience outside the company. NVIDIA may share aggregate-level data with select partners, but does not share user-level data. The nature of the information collected has remained consistent since the introduction of GeForce Experience 1.0. The change with GeForce Experience 3.0 is that this error reporting and data collection is now being done in real-time.
[Original Article] Telemetry is probably one of the most controversial sides of software as of late. In an age where privacy is quickly becoming a privilege rather than something taken for granted, it helps for software vendors to be very careful that no toes are trodden on. In a recent discovery by MajorGeeks, it was found that telemetry has been included in the latest driver version of Nvidia and not only are we unsure as to what the purpose of the new code is, but there also doesn’t seem to be any upfront way to opt out of it.

Has Nvidia become the NSA? Probably not; driver telemetry is usually harmless and occasionally useful
There were some reports by users on reddit saying that the log shown by the source is made up/fake so we did a fresh install of the latest driver package and can confirm that the telemetry processes do exist.

Wow that's kinda...crazy. But how will this stack up against the Titan X Pascal??

It's probably a little closer to GTX 960/970, than a Titan X. Workstation cards tend to do better than consumer cards when tumbling about a heavy model/scene in standard 3D apps, but probably wasted $$$ in 3D Coat.
