Member floetenmaul Posted September 9, 2016 Member Report Share Posted September 9, 2016 Hello there, we recently bought a floating license. But i have major problems setting up the license server: While following the installation instructions (http://pilgway.com/~sergyi/LinuxDocs/FServer.pdf) of the fserver service, the GUI doesn't show up. Instead i get a windows error message (attached). Dont mind the german It says something like: "Could not access the given device, check your access rights..." I tried this on different pc (win 7, win 10) everything as admin. on different drives, tried to download the zip again (http://www.3d-coat.com/~sergyi/3D-Coat-FServer.zip). We even had a look with procmon on this issue. the fserver.exe seems not even to start (process doesnt get active). Do you have any hint for me? SERGYI
The error "Windows cannot access the specified device..." means that you should run "FServer" from account with "Administrator" rights. Also you can try to check the rights from current "Standard" account. Right click "C:\3D-Coat-FServer" > Properties > Security > Edit > select your current account > check "Full control" > OK (please see the attached screenshot). SERGYI
For example I have managed to reproduce the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" on my "Windows 10" by creating "Local account" of type "Standard User" and then unchecking checkbox "Read & execute" in "Properties > Security > Edit > Users (MY_PC_NAME\Users)" on file "FServer.exe". Checking "Full control" fixes the problem (can be made from "Administrator" account). The same should be applied to the file "FServer_Service.exe". Please see the attached screenshot. Member floetenmaul Posted September 12, 2016 Author Member Report Share Posted September 12, 2016 Hey there. Thank you for your help! The access rights were set right. But i just investigated the issue further and it seem that our anti virus software (bitdefender) silently blocks the application. If i disable the realtime scanner, the fserver starts. So i will try to establish an exception for FServer in the anti virus software. Cheers
Member floetenmaul Posted September 12, 2016 Author Member Report Share Posted September 12, 2016 Hey there. Unfortunately i still can't use 3D Coat, and it's getting a bit annying :-( I wasn't able to get it to work on our dedicated machine, so i decided to test it on my local machine. i have admin rights, i disabled (both custom and windows) firewalls and started the FServer.exe in admin mode. then i installed the license with the key (which was sent to me via email). i restarted the server and opened 3d coat. I attached an image of the log-output in the FServer GUI. The section in the manual about this problem didn't helped me either (Problem: FServer Service has zero licenses and log file has empty hex response). As i stated, i run FServer with full Admin Rights. Help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers
