Transparent Smart Materials with Refraction Index

Hi 3DCoat team,

I purchased your excellent software almost a year ago or more, I don't remember, but only a short time I'm using it,
and I can say that it's really an amazing, powerful and fun software!

I'm trying to learn it, more and better in order to include it into my current workflow : Moi3D + Rhino V5 + NVIL (Poly/SDS) + Thea Render.

Just two simple question (for the moment) :

1) Is it possible to create Smart Materials that simulate things like Glass ?

That is, Smart Materials with transparency and refraction index ?

If so, how can I do it ? In the Smart Material editor I can't see nothing that could lead me in that direction.

2) What's the difference between Smart Material and Shaders ?

That is, I see that they are very different but, how do they differ regarding painting process ?

Thanks a lot and congratulations for your work!

Hi Carlosan,

Thank you very much for your reply! Very interesting smart material, I'll give it a look ASAP.

I hope that soon Pilgway will improve the material engine, because the lack of "transparency/index refraction" settings is a not negligible lack.

Nice day,

Nomad let you to apply Materials per object and assign refraction as blend mode.

on 3DC can assign Refractive shader to any mesh, but when light goes through a model surface is not working as expected.

Paint room assign global shading system to workflow for export textures, assign materials by mesh and modify all fundamental shading values individually cant be done.

It is in the todo list, as well the new shading node system on Paint Room.
