AutoPo newbie question

Hi, I'm Sam and I'm looking at using 3D-Coat primarily for the auto retopology tools. I seem to be having some issues so I'd like to make sure I've got the workflow down for simply importing meshes straight out of the 3D modelling program.

So first, I export my model and import it using the Perform Retopology option on the menu. Then Perform auto-retopology.

I leave default settings and do not paint any strokes just to see what results I get as standard.

However, this is what I get. Am I doing something wrong or is an issue present. It's not a complex shape so I wouldn't have thought I'd need to do anything too complicated.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam

I'm confused about the "exporting" and "importing"  that you mention. The figure shown seems to have no mass. Convert it to voxels (and hit 'W' to get rid of wire frame) and then right click the volume and select "Autopo" with the defaults and see what you get.

I meant export from my 3D application (Maya) and the import from the first menu screen you get. I have attached both the steps I have taken as well as my source file should anyone want to check it.

If I uncheck Voxelize then I am left with the result of the first image I uploaded.

Surely I cant be doing anything wrong as I am simply following the wizard process.

Do you advise to import the mesh into the sculpt layer first and voxelize it there? Can you explain these steps to me if that is the case so that I can ensure I am doing it correctly.

Thanks a lot.

Sam
