3D model import: You can now add 3D models directly into your Tilt Brush sketches. Just add an .obj to your Documents/Tilt Brush/Media Library/Models folder, and you’ll be able to import that model into your Tilt Brush sketch through the new “Media Library” panel. This is going to add a whole new element for creators that we can’t wait to see what you dream up.

Rotate and resize: You can now scale, rotate, or translate your sketches by holding down the grip buttons on both controllers. This feature enables you to make sketches that are huge in scale and to view sketches of any size, no matter what your room bounds are. No longer will you need to bust out that ladder to stretch the canvas to new heights.

 

Converting Tilt Brush files into .fbx files

Tilt Brush has the ability to export to .fbx and a custom json format that is mostly useful for user-written exporters. To export, go to settings and click the little Erlenmeyer flask in the top right corner. Some extra options should pop up in the middle of your play space. Click the Export button at the bottom. It should give you a little notification that the export was successful.

The export produces a .fbx file in C:\Users\Username\Documents\Tilt Brush\Exports. This file can be edited in modeling software like Maya, 3DS Max, Blender etc. They can also be uploaded to websites such as http://www.sketchfab.com/ to be viewed by everyone as interactive 3D models, or imported into Unity3D and Unreal. Keep in mind that unless you use a shader supporting vertex colors you'll be presented with only a grey 3D mesh of your model. See the Tilt Brush release notes for shaders you can use with Unity3D.

If this is all you need, stop reading here. If you want a .obj, or if you want to customize the .fbx conversion, read on.

The export also produces a .json file which can be further converted or manipulated by Python scripts supplied with Tilt Brush. Keep in mind that colors are not supported by the obj file format. Also, this may seem like a long process, but the steps are simple and the setup only has to be done once.

now this could be a very useful tool because hair splines on complex hair styles etc are really hard to do but essential to doing realistic hair.

 

Imagine if you could just wave your hand around an imported obj model of a woman's head to paint hair splines then export them to Blender or houdini  to create rich hair styles.

 

That would be an immense improvement in hair creation workflow.  This guy starts out talking about Houdini and Zbrush hair splines then gives up and says Blender hair splines are the best. 

But this Tilt Brush and .obj exports could change that.
