Advanced Member Metin Seven Posted October 22, 2017 Advanced Member Report Share Posted October 22, 2017 Hi, I was wondering if the following workflow is possible: 1: Sculpt a model using voxels and/or surface tools. 2: Use Autopo to give a nice quad topology to the mesh. 3: From the Retopo room, send the retopo object back to the Sculpt room, so you can sculpt on the retopologized mesh. I guess a workaround is to export the retopo mesh and import it into the Sculpt room, but I hope that isn't necessary. Thanks, Metin

Member majora Posted April 20, 2019 Member Report Share Posted April 20, 2019 hey, from that point, would there be a direct way back to the retopo room ? lets say in case you find some polygons you like to cut and delete etc.. how is that supposed to be approached ? thanks! Carlosan
You can adding an external script done by @ajz to C:\Users\username\Documents\3D-CoatV48\Scripts\ExtraMenuItems ExtraMenuItems.zip //edit it is not working for 2021

If you want to convert a Sculpt mesh directly to a Poly object. 1. Select the Sculpt object you want to convert to a Poly object 2. Right-click 3. select 'Retopo via decimation' (under AUTOPO) 4. Reduction window will pop up. If you want to keep the original, set the Reduction Percent to '0' and take it. 5. Poly object will be added to Retopo/Modeling Room. Sorry for bringing up this old topic, but I tried these steps on my surface objects but they dont work. A new retopo layer is created upon clicking no decimation, but no polygon actually appear in the Retopo Room. Using 2023.40.

But I have another question: the meshes I import are Quads, but when I retopo by decimation, they become Tris. Can I import my meshes from Sculpt Room to Retopo Room without change from Quads to Tris?
Carlosan
no, decimate works with tris. Once the model is on Retopo Room, you can use this command (found on Mesh Menu) to convert to quads
Reputable Contributor digman Posted March 14 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted March 14 3DC uses tris and not quads in the sculpt room. When you import a quad based model into voxel or surface mode it will be converted to tris. Side Note. The apply quadrangulation will do the job but it only does what it says. You have all quads but they are not optimized. Any decimation routine well covert quads into tris, Blender does the same.
