Bake displacement map data into mesh, or normal map

Hi guys.

I have a model with both a displacement map and a normal map. I'd like to get the model with all the info into Unity, meaning I need to create a low-poly model.

Is there a way to somehow get the information from the displacement map onto the low res poly, or to add the information to the normal map?

I know unity has a height map channel but I don't know if by retopologising I lose the info from the high-res model that will allow the displacement map to be applied.

Thanks in advance.

Try this:

Create your low polygon model.

Load the the original model into Paint room using Micro-Vertex method (deep displacement)

Create a new layer- Import the displacement map.

Next use the Texture Baking tool choosing the low polygon model as the target.

You might need to adjust the scan depths.

If you need the normal map too. You can do both at the same time.

It has been quite a while since I bake a displacement map from the method above. If you have any problem you know how to get hold of me.

Another Method for the normal map and displacement : Import the original model using Per Pixel mode. Import the external normal map.

Under the View Menu. Select "Show Displaced Mesh"

Adjust the Tessellation Level. Read the tool tip.  This will increase the quality of the displaced mesh.

Use the Texture Baking tool again.

Just use which ever one works best.

If you have any problem you know how to get hold of me.
