Advanced Member lc8b105 Posted November 1, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 1, 2010 A new kind of 3D Mouse called 3D-Spheric-Mouse by Axsotic from Germany, looks cool! http://bit.ly/a4pQMm
Reputable Contributor AbnRanger Posted November 1, 2010 Reputable Contributor Report Share Posted November 1, 2010 Not yet for sale. It looks like it would have better tactile feel than 3dconnexion devices, but I don't it's an ergonomic design. It needs some sort of wrist rest and it leaves no room for added control keys. With a SpacePilot, I seldom need to reach for the keyboard. With this product, you'd have to constantly move your hand off the device to hit shortcut keys. Having said all of that, if they offered support for Mudbox or Zbrush they would likely find a market there.
philnolan3d
I agree it looks a little uncomfortable. As for compatibility the article said it doesn't require any drivers. Not sure what exactly that means for 3D apps though.
Advanced Member Spiraloid Posted November 3, 2010 Advanced Member Report Share Posted November 3, 2010 so I've been using a 3DX for the last few weeks. I gotta say I love two handed sculpting again. I do it with chavant and sculpey, and the voxels make the differences between real world sculpting and computer sculpting very small. this mouse looks cool, but I'm not really interested in in full rotation or translation. what I want is just a weighted, single axis turntable. anyone know of a controller that does this? I'm thinking of seeing if I can get a DJ turntable controller setup to do it. I figure folks here may have tried this before.

Is this what you're talking about...rotating along a single axis, and performing a lathe type operation?http://www.3dcoat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5486 http://cgdigg.com/3dc/realWorldLathePart1.mov http://cgdigg.com/3dc/realWorldLathePart2.mov

I actually like spinning the model without having to sculpt-stop-look-stop-sculpt. alt and empty space drag is fast, but I prefer two handed approach one hand for spinning the model, one hand for sculpting/painting. Hi Spiraloid, have you watched the video as AbnRanger adviced? If not, go ahead to download & watch it, and let us know if it helps. http://cgdigg.com/rw3d.php That video demonstrates how to convert a 3DConnexion in to a single axis turntable as you described above. Then you can use the 3DConnexion as a single axis turntable with you left hand, sculpt the model use a mouse or tablet with your right hand.
