Surface mode head

I wanted to try some new techniques, so I've been working on a head model using just about all Surface mode. First I started with a skull model and made some broad adjustments to make it more feminine. Then I used the Copy tool to copy just the outer parts I needed to a new layer. After filling in the open gaps like the mouth, neck and nose holes, I filled in any interior bubbles and converted to Surface mode. After that I've been working only in Surface mode, using a lot of LC tools and Remove stretching. Unfortunately due to some LC bugs I did have to jump back to voxels a couple of times to clean the mesh, but then went right back to Surface mode. You can see the "crumbs" floating above the shoulders are one of the LC problems I keep having.

I am doing most of my work in surface mode now... Working around some of the LC beta bugs which are getting fewer...

Looking fowarding to seeing more updates as the lady progresses...

Thanks. I do still like voxels for some things, plus of course things that can't be done with Surface.

Finished with retopo and UV, moved on to Paint room. Smoothed out some rough spots and painted in pores.

Oh! The last picture is cool.

Is the hair only painted? It looks quite realistic from this angle.

I found her jaw a little thick, but the there are some girls like that.

The skin feel with subtle color variation is great.

Is it all painted or due to the rendering setting?

Thanks! So you used the picture as a "decal".

New it was possible in 3dCoat, but never had a try.

Still you have some slightly colored area on your model

that are not on the girl picture (slight green-blue areas).

Ah... didn't notice there was a turntable.

That works really good for the hair, except may be on the very rear part

where you can see the symmetry. An accessory (brooch?) would hide it.

Don't know where the green-blue shades came off. Nothing like that

on your ref picture. May be my display?

Anyway thats quite realistic even with a bald model. Well done.

I didn't paint anything on it, just transferred the photos. The only "painting" was with clone tools to fill in areas like behind the ears and to blend between the photos. As for the hair that's not final at all, it has no shape to it. It's just a base to go underneath of the real hair that I'll probably do with LightWave's FiberFX.

Thanks, I'm attempting to rework the collar bone and neck area. Unfortunately it's not as easy process in the Paint room.

That's right, I'm making her a 3D coat. in 3D-Coat. (textured with poly paint so far)

your head sculpt looks good, one thing bothering me about it is the profile, the length of the head seem a little short, and the back of the skull too low. (illustrated). I realize you've probably finished this already, but I thought I'd put my two cents in anyways.

huh, I hadn't noticed that, I just matched it up the the photo as best I could, but of course the photo had hair so it's hard to tell exactly where the back of the head is. I'll see what I can do about it. Thanks.

Getting great results with your color zones of the face Phil. Liveclay does have some responses that voxels do not provide, myself I like how some of the tools help filling back in to forms e.g the underneath of the nose as it connects back to the philtrum etc etc.

"I filled in any interior bubbles" - sounds fun , I like it

Thanks guys I've made some more progress on the coat but haven't found much time to work on it. Unfortunately real work has to come first.
