Member mwgrafx Posted June 29, 2015 Member Report Share Posted June 29, 2015 Just like the title says. Is there a way I can paint an alpha map in 3d coat? I couldnt find an answer in the search. Im trying to add tears in the tunic.
Contributor ajz3d Posted June 29, 2015 Contributor Report Share Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Unforunately it's not possible to paint alpha, nor 3D Coat is capable of displaying cutouts or semi-transparent surfaces. You can cheat your way out by (for example) painting a layer in black and white and exporting it as colour for further processing in photoshop. Javis
There was a hack someone found a few years ago that allowed you to do that, but I'm not sure where that is located. I believe it was a video on youtube. For what it's worth, I use two different workflows depending on where my stuff is going. For rendering, I either paint a black a white image for masking, or, I will just paint around where I want the holes, and make sure you have paint on all the other layers you want, and then just turn off layer 0. Layer 0 has the "base" mesh information, and when turned off, allows you to export alpha channels in all of your textures. I use the latter for exporting to Unreal.
