Read this document.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make joints in some external editor. Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1Mo-t8lsgiE_hr__OmgmEXf7jfONyzIVfMpixL5tXNFk\/edit?usp=sharing\">specifications<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technical requirements for models with Joints<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The model should be created taking into account the scale of the grid. For example, if it is a cube, then 10*10*10, a brick &#8211; 20*10*10. <br \/>The blocks could be larger, however, they should be made to apply neatly onto the grid of 10*10*10. <br \/>The vertical axis is Y. <br \/>If the model is a tube, then the diameter should be 5. <br \/>If the tube\u2019s corner, then any parameter taking into account the corner is applied to the tube of 5 in the diameter.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You may add joints to the model right in 3DCoat. For this purpose, please make the model in the Modeling room (sculpt and retopo or model in the Modeling room from scratch).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then go to Modeling room-&gt;Make joints and add as many joints as you need. It looks like:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"826\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-92-1024x826.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-92-1024x826.png 1024w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-92-300x242.png 300w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-92-768x619.png 768w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-92.png 1065w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press Add joint to add new joint. There are several options for each joint &#8211; axial symmetry, vertical\/horizontal alignment, compatibility with other joints.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please fill in the name of the model and press Publish as soon as the model with joints is ready. The model will be placed in the Joints palette and you will get to the Joints tool to test the model with joints. Pay attention that the model with the same name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Model requirements. The models are low-poly ones &#8211; up to 5\u041a polygons per model.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If there is a tube 16 segments should be created.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A model could be a composite one. If there is a sub-object (retopo group) with the name of  <strong>Shader_Gold<\/strong>, there will be created a volume named <strong>Shader_Gold, <\/strong>where the subobjects of this type will be gathered. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That volume will be assigned a shader whose which name fits best with the word of Gold.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examples of models with the joints put <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1KqA-K1VzyUafALZ5XRitUS9IGaK8FVDI?usp=sharing\">Here<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The ready-made models should be placed <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1_-gCgQj_SC-Ymau8hNkZf0bVMYowL7K6?usp=sharing\">Here<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>JOINTS SPECIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Technical requirements for models with Joints<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The model should be created taking into account the scale of the grid. The Joints are objects in the scene which names start from the word Joint \u2026.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each Joint is a pyramid or a cone, the sharp angle is directed outwards from the object. The center of the parallelepiped around the Joint is the point where the Joints connect. <br \/>Here\u2019s an example of an object with the Joints. A curved tube &#8211; the object, cones &#8211; the Joints. <br \/>The very Joints are not added to the scene, but only the object.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"807\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-93.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14734\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-93.png 807w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-93-300x143.png 300w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-93-768x367.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 807px) 100vw, 807px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joints without the object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <img decoding=\"async\" width=\"535\" height=\"255\" src=\"blob:https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/2d1a3be3-ee9a-43bc-8f02-aae5153e61d8\"\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Placement of the Joints on the mesh. The division value is 1.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"807\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-93.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14733\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-93.png 807w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-93-300x143.png 300w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-93-768x367.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 807px) 100vw, 807px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Agreements on the names of the Joints. The name of the Joint is the name of an object where the joint is located. The name may consist of several tags, for example <strong>Joint_Vertical_Axial16_Type1_Type2_01<\/strong><br \/>&#8211; The Joint object always starts with the word <strong>Joint_<\/strong><br \/>&#8211; The object name may contain key lines which define the behavior model for 3DCoat. Below is a set of sublines allowed:<br \/>&#8211; <strong>Horizontal <\/strong>&#8211; the Joint is always horizontal<br \/>&#8211; <strong>Vertical <\/strong>&#8211;&nbsp; the Joint is always vertical<br \/>&#8211; <strong>Tile <\/strong>&#8211; the Joint is tiled; user can pull the object alongside the direction of the Joint and multiply the object. This flag is rarely specified manually. The Joint is considered tiled if it is directed along one of the axes and there is a Joint in the opposite direction and with an opposite coordinate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; <strong>Axial\u0425\u0425<\/strong>, where <strong>XX <\/strong>is multiple of the axis symmetry. For example <strong>Axial4 <\/strong>can be rotated at 90 degrees, <strong>Axial8 <\/strong>can be rotated at 45 degrees.<br \/>&#8211; <strong>Type1<\/strong>, <strong>Type2<\/strong>, <strong>Type3<\/strong>, <strong>Type4 <\/strong>&#8211; the joints can be of various types. If there no particular type specified, the joint is compatible with all the types. You can specify several types using the _ sign. Then the Joint will be compatible with the specified types only.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Model requirements. The models are low-poly ones &#8211; up to 5\u041a polygons per model. If there is a tube designed &#8211; 16 segments should created.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3DCoat automatically creates a facet on all the edges with the angle of sharper than 140 degrees. However, if the name of the object contains the word \u201c<strong>Soft<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<strong>Native<\/strong>\u201d, or two underlines is a row \u201c<strong>__<\/strong>\u201d, the facet is not created.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A model could be a composite one. If there is an object with the name of <strong>Shader_Gold<\/strong>, there will be created a volume named <strong>Shader_Gold, <\/strong>where the subobjects of this type will be gathered. That volume will be assigned a shader which name fits best with the word of Gold.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adding models to 3DCoat. Show the window with models &#8211; Windows-&gt;Popups-&gt;Joints. In that window we add the model. The models should be distributed by the categories, don\u2019t throw everything into one pile.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examples of models with the joints put <a
