{"id":2207,"date":"2022-09-19T11:53:43","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T11:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/?post_type=manual_documentation&#038;p=2207"},"modified":"2025-03-16T10:12:23","modified_gmt":"2025-03-16T10:12:23","slug":"brush-options","status":"publish","type":"manual_documentation","link":"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/manual\/brush-components\/brush-options\/","title":{"rendered":"Brush Options panel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/lib\/exe\/detail.php?id=general%3Ainterface_navigation%3Abrush_components%3Abrush_options&amp;media=interface_navigation:brush_components:brush-options-panel.jpg\"><\/a>At the top of the panel is a preview of the Brush alpha shape followed by a series of behavior controls.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"248\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/brush_options_panels.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7798\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/brush_options_panels.jpg 248w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/brush_options_panels-152x300.jpg 152w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 248px) 100vw, 248px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Brush Rotation:<\/strong>&nbsp;This sets the initial orientation of the alpha at the beginning of the stroke.<br \/><strong>Zero Pressure Radius:<\/strong>&nbsp;When using a tablet stylus, this number indicates the default radius at the beginning of the brush stroke.<br \/><strong>Depth Modulator:<\/strong>&nbsp;The default depth for each brush being used.<br \/><strong>Rotation Amplitude:<\/strong>&nbsp;Sets the amplitude for additional brush rotation.<br \/><strong>Radius Variation:<\/strong>&nbsp;Sets the percentage of random brush radius variation.<br \/><strong>Depth Variation:<\/strong>&nbsp;Sets the percentage of random brush depth.<br \/><strong>Jitter Opacity:<\/strong>&nbsp;Defines the randomness of the brush opacity setting.<br \/><strong>Jitter Position:<\/strong>&nbsp;The overall randomness of brush behavior.<br \/><strong>Jitter Hue:<\/strong>&nbsp;Defines the randomness of the brush hue when used for painting color.<br \/><strong>Jitter Brightness:<\/strong>&nbsp;Varies the brightness randomly over the course of a stroke.<br \/><strong>Jitter Saturation:<\/strong>&nbsp;Varies the saturation of the primary color randomly over the course of the stroke.<br \/><strong>Vary color per stroke:<\/strong>&nbsp;Use this option to produce painting effects, like fur or hair, when you need to either vary the Hue\/Saturation\/Brightness as you paint a single stroke (variegated strand color), or when you want each stroke made to have a slightly different Hue\/Saturation\/Brightness, as determined by the corresponding \u201cJitter\u201d setting.<br \/><strong>Random flip (x, y):<\/strong>&nbsp;This randomly flips the selected brush across its x or y axis while painting.<br \/><strong>Paint with dabs:<\/strong>&nbsp;Creates paint or sculpting \u201cdabs\u201d which occur at some set spacing, as determined by the \u201cSpacing\u201d control.<br \/><strong>Rotate along stroke:<\/strong>&nbsp;When using brush alpha shapes, you want to align like the bristles of a brush so that they change relative direction as the brush changes direction; all along the stroke, use this option.<br \/><strong>Skip eraser:<\/strong>&nbsp;Disables the \u201cErase Layer\u201d of the Brush.<br \/><strong>Sharp Shape (old style):<\/strong>&nbsp;This check box allows you to draw alphas more sharply (it is closer to old-style 3DCoat painting). <br \/>Spots will not blend with each other. It means better following alpha shape but also sharper stroke self-intersection. This option is not working for airbrush and native (not surface) voxel tools. Airbrush and voxel tools are always working in sharp mode.<br \/><strong>Sharp Shape with all alphas:<\/strong>&nbsp;Use this setting to cause both sculpting and painting brushes to strictly adhere to the shape defined by the Brush Alpha.<br \/><strong>Fade on edge:<\/strong>&nbsp;All strokes painted with this option checked will have a smoother edge transition.<br \/><strong>Use spacing:<\/strong>&nbsp;When used with the \u201cPaint with dabs\u201d option, adjusting the \u201cSpacing\u201d percentage slider determines how close or far apart the paint dabs are applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Apply Brush \u201cDabs\u201d with Spacing:<\/strong>&nbsp;This causes the current Brush to especially respond to the \u201cDabs, Jitter, and Spacing\u201d options found in the \u201cBrush Options\u201d Panel. Experimentation demonstrates this action best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tutorials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to fast rotate your alpha ?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Evil_Weasel: you can assign a shortcut for rotating alpha.
