{"id":2214,"date":"2022-09-19T17:22:46","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T17:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/?post_type=manual_documentation&#038;p=2214"},"modified":"2024-06-14T08:38:19","modified_gmt":"2024-06-14T08:38:19","slug":"the-strips-panel","status":"publish","type":"manual_documentation","link":"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/manual\/brush-components\/the-strips-panel\/","title":{"rendered":"Strips Panel"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"123\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/strips.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/strips.png 400w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/strips-300x92.png 300w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/strips-18x6.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Strips panel offers an alternate selection of Brush tips, which repeat over the length of a stroke. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Strips work best in the Paint Room for creating detail with normal map depth, in concert with per-pixel painting modes, or for actual displacement painting while using the micro-vertex method. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The &#8216;X&#8217; means no strip will be applied along the trajectory.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choosing a Strip shape does not override the alpha shapes in the Brushes panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For similar functionality in the Sculpt Room, use the \u201cCurves\u201d tool with a repeating Spline shape selected from the \u201cSplines\u201d panel. The Strips panel uses the same methods of adding folders and individual strips as the Brushes panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the help of the \u201cStrip\u201d menu, you can select a shape of the strip to be applied along the drawing trajectory. This may be used to draw decorative edging or a chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As with Brushes, you can click on the \u201cplus\u201d icon to add a new alpha that will be used as custom strip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Import the new strip alpha as TIFF file format instead of PSD.<br \/>Tif files let you import alphas with 16bits, Psd files are imported as 8bits. Tif let you paint better brush resolution with height values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a number of ways that you can apply a strip: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can simply brush them in with your pen manually, or you can create a spline curve and apply the strip to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, using a spline is very nice for getting an accurate strip, so it is recommended you try it with a curve first. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If it doesn\u2019t suit your needs, or you require something more \u201cloose\u201d, then you should try to brush it manually. It also helps to use the \u201cSteady Stroke\u201d feature when manually brushing a strip.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bandoleer.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2471\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bandoleer.jpeg 350w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bandoleer-300x283.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/bandoleer-13x12.jpeg 13w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The image is a sample of how smooth and accurate using a spline curve to draw a strip can be.<br \/>Here you can see a very exemplary image, with the proper use of using a strip along a spline curve.
