Can create radially and across a symmetry plane simultaneously for more complex procedures if needed. Creates radial objects before the mirrored symmetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Radial Symmetry\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZTW-R1r950c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Radial Mirror:<\/strong>&nbsp;Paint, Sculpt, or Retopologize across a symmetry plane. A hybrid of Mirror and Radial modes. Creates the radial objects after the mirrored symmetry plane.<br \/><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hwkwayJ7t-4\">Translation:<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;It allows for the painting\/creating of periodical structures in space and tiled textures. The tiles from the splash screen are good when you use only color. They cause artifacts as soon as you try to sculpt. The translation symmetry method above is perfect for sculpting to export depth. No artifacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f1f1f1\">You need to create box primitive with a bit larger dimensions than your bake, like 120x120x5, in surface mode, before enabling translation symmetry with 100&#215;100 offsets. So you can sculpt across tile boundaries without artifacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f1f1f1\">And usage of Layers: always create new layer in Layers panel before starting, so you can use Erase SL brush, and revert back to clean box just by deleting SL layer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"304\" height=\"297\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/general-case.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6016\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/general-case.jpg 304w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/general-case-300x293.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 304px) 100vw, 304px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>X,Y, Z Toggles:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:interface_navigation:symmetry#x_y_z_toggles\"><\/a>Toggles the respective plane on\/off for symmetry. <br \/><strong>Global X,Y,Z:<\/strong> Allows you to specify what the global center is for the symmetry plane, which can be either true Global Space, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dlMDafuB5Cw\">Local Space<\/a> (to the Objects center) or General Case Axis, which is a customizable center, very useful to rotate or roll the symmetry axis.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"820\" height=\"545\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/GeneralCaseSymmetry.jpg?wsr\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12645\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/GeneralCaseSymmetry.jpg 820w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/GeneralCaseSymmetry-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/GeneralCaseSymmetry-768x510.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" style=\"background-color:#f1f1f1\">\n<p>To mirror an object around another select specific axis or reset symmetry and pick new point of its center. Then if you are ok with it, go to geometry\/ symmetry copy. <br \/>It will make a symmetrical new object within the selected existing one.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pick from Bound Box: <\/strong>pick symmetry values from volume bound box location.<br \/><strong>Store:<\/strong> let you to store the current symmetry state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"virtual_symmetry_retopo_room\">Virtual Symmetry (Retopo Room)<a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:interface_navigation:symmetry#virtual_symmetry_retopo_room\"><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>An additional mode of symmetry for the Retopo Room allows you to create virtual symmetry so you can see what your Retopo Object will look like symmetrically. A \u201creal\u201d workable mesh can also be created from virtual symmetry, but also be aware that if you already have a symmetrical Retopo Object, turning on Virtual Symmetry will effectively \u201cdouble-up\u201d on the number of polygons visible, even if the geometry is virtual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also note that if your mesh has symmetrical geometry in the Retopo Room, turning Symmetry Mode on will create actual, editable geometry on top of the already existing geometry. So avoid using symmetry with that kind of mesh in the Retopo Room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Working on a part of a sculpt that is symmetric, but not conformed to X, Y, Z<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>You can make a helper primitive, and use it to set your symmetry with transform tool, and then you can merge your object to the helper, and this way you will preserve it&#8217;s local orientation and symmetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evil_Weasel: <em>Actually I found pretty neat way to set symmetry plane with normal Transform tool. But it is a bit tricky to set up\u2026 <\/em><br \/><em>In voxel mode you can&#8217;t make a flat plane primitive, to serve as a helper for symmetry, but you can do it in Modeling room. <br \/> Make a 2D plane there, import it into sculpt room layer in surface mode, so it stays a flat plane. <br \/>Enable symmetry you want, and you can use Transform to move\/rotate it as you like, and symmetry will follow. <br \/>Once you set it correct, you can clear the layer (delete polygons), but symmetry will remain. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>So you can turn it into voxel mode of needed resolution, and shift+drag your object onto this helper layer to merge them, and your symmetry is done and active! <br \/>Sounds like a lot of actions, but after you do it 1-2 times it&#8217;s pretty fast and easy.
