If you hold down the ALT\/OPTION key in the 3D viewport and then drag the LMB, the camera rotates around the scene. If you hold down the SHIFT key, the camera will snap to the next box level. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you hold down the ALT\/OPTION key, click and hold it, and then drag the RMB, the view is enlarged or reduced depending on the direction of movement. At the same time, holding down the ALT\/OPTION button and dragging the MBB, the view modes. Since nearly all input devices use \u201cmouse\u201d navigation as a base for defining usage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When not engaging any of the \u201cE\u201d Panel tool modes, dragging in empty space in the Viewport while holding down the Left mouse button will rotate the Camera (your view) around the scene.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When \u201cE\u201d Panel tools are being used (or some specific Voxel tools), add the \u201cAlt\/Option\u201d key modifier to obtain the same effect. In general, when Left dragging in the Viewport does NOT rotate your view; engaging the \u201cAlt\/Option\u201d key modifier will remedy this.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Holding down the \u201cShift\u201d key will snap the view in regular rotational intervals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dragging in empty space in the Viewport while holding down the Right mouse button will Zoom the view, in or out, depending on the direction of movement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dragging in empty space in the Viewport while holding down the Middle mouse button or Scrollwheel button will Pan the view.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"camera_settings_drop-down_menu\">Camera settings (Drop-Down Menu)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>A click on the \u201cCamera\u201d drop-down arrow at the top right of the interface will show you some options for your camera as well as the use of presets or customizing the navigation in 3D Coat itself.<a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:interface_navigation:camera_menu#camera_settings_drop-down_menu\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"404\" height=\"105\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/camera.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/camera.jpg 404w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/camera-300x78.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p> You can also create shortcuts for the camera position\/rotation for later use. These camera shortcuts also save all types of 2D grid, stamp, or template position\/rotation\/scaling settings, making it easy to use and reuse tools with repeatable results when needed.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"313\" height=\"532\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/camera-settings.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7968\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/camera-settings.jpg 313w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/camera-settings-177x300.jpg 177w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 313px) 100vw, 313px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>You can set a pivot point for your camera`s rotational navigation by pressing \u201cF\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Custom scheme:<\/strong>&nbsp;Choose between styles of navigation: 3DCoat, 3DCoat arrows, Maya, or Zbrush style.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, the 3DCoat style is set. With the 3DCoat navigation style, you can rotate your scene by moving your mouse with LMB pressed on the empty area. In the same way, you can zoom your scene with RMB and pan with MMB. If you don\u2019t want to move your cursor aside, you can always use ALT+LMB, RMB, or MMB to navigate the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Customize navigation:<\/strong>&nbsp;Opens a panel that allows total customization of all navigation commands. You can customize navigation according to your own preferences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"g238489889ef6\">Customize the background<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>There is also a set of options to customize the background. These options are mostly self-explanatory. The ones that are not, however, are detailed below:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"285\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/referencebackgroundimages.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/referencebackgroundimages.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/referencebackgroundimages-300x214.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/referencebackgroundimages-18x12.jpeg 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Background:<\/strong>&nbsp;A set of options that lets you set a variety of view backgrounds as visual references. The Viewport Background fills the background of the 3D viewport (and stretches to fill, if needed). <br \/>Select Use background image and choose your image from the opening dialog. On Preferences the default image is a starfield. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"274\" height=\"370\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image-3.png 274w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image-3-222x300.png 222w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 274px) 100vw, 274px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><br \/>Reference Images can be used for each view axis, X, Y, and Z. You can edit image placement for each image plane on each axis with a Transform widget: the position, scaling, rotation, and view opacity.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"207\" height=\"152\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8289\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Camera Snapping:<\/strong><br \/>Navigation Panel Updated, new behavior. Choose what is most suitable for you. You can specify a pivot point for your camera&#8217;s rotational navigation (world center, pick point, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Rotate Around\u2026:<\/strong>&nbsp;These commands set the pivot point for the view camera.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"store_camera_positions\">Store camera positions<a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:interface_navigation:camera_menu#store_camera_positions\"><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The other choices let you delete and switch these stored camera positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Add camera shortcut:<\/strong>&nbsp;The information about the camera position and current material placement will be stored. It can be used for frame sequence rendering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Delete camera shortcut:<\/strong>&nbsp;Delete the last used or added shortcut.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Switch to the <\/strong>previous shortcut:&nbsp;Switch to the previous camera and material shortcut.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Switch to next shortcut:<\/strong>&nbsp;Switch to the next camera and material shortcut.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"navigation_panel\"><a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:interface_navigation:camera_menu#navigation_panel\"><\/a>Background Images<a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:interface_navigation:camera_menu#background_images\"><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/lib\/exe\/detail.php?id=general%3Ainterface_navigation%3Acamera_menu&amp;media=interface_navigation:backgroundimage.jpg\"><\/a>There are two different kinds of Backgrounds: those which simply fill the background of the 3D viewport (and stretch to fill, if needed) and those that are set up manually for use as sculpting or painting reference images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Viewport Background:<\/strong>&nbsp;Select Use background image and choose your image from the opening dialog. The default image is a starfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or if you\u2019d like to assign an image to the background of the interface, you can assign one from your hard drive.<br \/>Open the top menu, and open Edit\u2192Preferences. Scroll down, locate the Background type option, and click the drop-down arrow to select the Use Background image.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"70\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/usebackgroundimage.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/usebackgroundimage.jpeg 250w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/usebackgroundimage-18x5.jpeg 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>By default, you will see a backdrop that looks like a star field. You can, of course, choose your own file by clicking in the file requester field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"viewport_reference_images\">Viewport Reference Images<a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:interface_navigation:camera_menu#viewport_reference_images\"><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes you\u2019ll need to create a model that needs to conform to exact specifications.<br \/>This is where placing these types of reference images comes in handy. The&nbsp;Reference Images&nbsp;can be placed on any axis of your choosing X, Y, or Z. You can even assign a different image to each axis so you can have a view of your artwork no matter which axis you happen to work from.<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/lib\/exe\/detail.php?id=general%3Ainterface_navigation%3Acamera_menu&amp;media=interface_navigation:choosereferenceimages.jpg\"><\/a>Click on the arrow next to the Camera controls, then select Background\u2192Choose Ref Image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you click the menu, you\u2019ll then navigate your hard drive for an image to use along the Z-axis. The image you select will appear in 3DCoat\u2019s main window.
