Below are listed all of the functions in this menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"retopo\">Retopo Mesh Menu<a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:retopo_workspace:retopo_menu#retopo\"><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"251\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image_2024-12-07_082211114.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image_2024-12-07_082211114.png 251w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image_2024-12-07_082211114-130x300.png 130w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 251px) 100vw, 251px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Import:<\/strong>&nbsp;Import an external mesh to continue creating topology started in another 3D modeling program.<br \/><strong>Export:<\/strong>&nbsp;Exports a retopo mesh to continue work in an external 3D application.<br \/><strong>Export selected:<\/strong>&nbsp;Exports only the selected faces of your retopo mesh.<br \/><strong>Export Separated Poly (Retopo) Objects:<\/strong>&nbsp;Exports each PolyGroup as a separate file. The name of each generated file will contain the group name.<br \/><strong>Save Contour for laser cutting:<\/strong>&nbsp;Exports the connected boundary of a UV island to facilitate laser or CNC cutting.<br \/><strong>Copy Mesh From Paint Room:<\/strong>&nbsp;Move mesh from the Paint room into the Retopo room. In this case, the objects will be colored; color will be used in baking and merging into the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Select Faces Picking Method:<\/strong>&nbsp;Selects faces based on the following options: <br \/>Triangles, Quadrangles, N-Gons, and Stars, and Improve Quad Topology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Apply symmetry to all layers:<\/strong>&nbsp;Makes all symmetrical operations permanent for all PolyGroups allowing them to be \u201cBaked\u201d into the Paint Room and \u201cUnwrapped\u201d in the UV Room.<br \/><strong>Apply symmetry to the current layer:<\/strong>&nbsp;Makes only the selected PolyGroup permanently symmetrically for Merging and Unwrapping.<br \/><strong>Virtual mirror mode:<\/strong>&nbsp;This option is applicable only if symmetry is enabled. In this mode, you should create topology only on one side of the symmetry. The opposite side will be shown as in the mirror without the actual creation of polygons. You need only work on one side of the mesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>Virtual mirror should work for you, whether you have deleted half of your model or not. Even though things might not look perfectly symmetrical in the editing process, using \"Apply symmetry...\" from the \"Retopo\" menu should rectify that and produce perfectly mirrored geometry.<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After you finish, you may \u201cApply symmetry\u201d to make the symmetrical topology permanent. If this mode is turned off, polygons will be automatically created on both sides of the symmetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sidenote: <em>To make it always work,<\/em> you have to select the layer and click the &#8220;select all faces of this layer&#8221; button. That way, the &#8220;apply symmetry&#8221; always works<em> perfectly.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/1Z5h8T0c7BU?list=PLF62F3C31216D2794\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Working w\/ Symmetry (Retopo\/UVs)<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp;This video continues the Introduction to working with Symmetry, focusing on the Retopo Room and UVs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/WYe-lZ8OBJ8\"><strong>Live Smooth <\/strong><\/a>provides the user with a subdivided, higher polygon version in these workspaces, that adapts on the fly to all changes made to the low poly mesh. <br \/>Click on live smooth and notice in the sculpt tree panel you immediately get a new subdivided version of the model. <br \/><strong>Subdivide<\/strong> with CC levels 1, 2, 3: Choose the subdivision level and see the changes in the viewport.<br \/><strong>Convert to Sculpt Mesh:<\/strong> Copy the 3D Polygonal Object in Polygroup and send it to the Sculpt Tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Set Islands Min Distance:<\/strong>&nbsp;Set Islands Min Distance.<br \/><strong>Auto unwrap attached faces:<\/strong>&nbsp;Check this option to create UVs automatically. Auto-unwrap faces that were created nearby to the already unwrapped islands. Unwrapping will be performed each time when you switch new tool.<br \/><strong>Unwrap:<\/strong>&nbsp;Fit all islands onto the UV map. It is the same command found in the \u201cUV Tools\u201d section of the Tool Panel.<br \/><strong>Close holes:<\/strong>&nbsp;A valuable option that attempts to repair holes in imported Retopo meshes &#8211; especially dense scanned meshes.<br \/><strong>Remove N-Gons:<\/strong>&nbsp;Remove N-Gons<br \/><strong>Clear mesh:<\/strong>&nbsp;Clears the whole mesh from the selected PolyGroup.<br \/><strong>Subdivide:&nbsp;<\/strong>Subdivides the whole mesh, using one iteration, from the current PolyGroup.<br \/>Catmull-Clark subdivision in retopo room.&nbsp;Two commands are \u201cSubdivide selected\u201d and \u201cSubdivide the whole group\u201d.<br \/><strong>Relax:<\/strong>&nbsp;Relaxes the Retopo mesh to aid in snapping to the reference surface, for the currently selected PolyGroup.<br \/><strong>Apply Triangulation:&nbsp;<\/strong>Triangulation of all visible retopo mesh as an entire.<br \/><strong>Apply Quadrangulation:&nbsp;<\/strong>Quadrangulation all visible retopo mesh as an entire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Save Retopology State:<\/strong>&nbsp;Store the retopology state in a separate file.<br \/><strong>Load Retopology State:<\/strong>&nbsp;Restore the retopology state from a separate file.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"parent":2254,"menu_order":0,"template":"","manualdocumentationcategory":[9],"manual_doc_tag":[143],"class_list":["post-2311","manual_documentation","type-manual_documentation","status-publish","hentry","manualdocumentationcategory-manual","manual_doc_tag-retopo-mesh-menu"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Retopo Mesh Menu - 3DCoat Documentation<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Of course any good tool has more to it then meets the eye.
