{"id":2344,"date":"2022-09-19T22:59:04","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T22:59:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/?post_type=manual_documentation&#038;p=2344"},"modified":"2026-03-12T09:06:32","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T09:06:32","slug":"voxel-right-click-menu","status":"publish","type":"manual_documentation","link":"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/manual\/workspaces-rooms\/sculpt\/voxel-right-click-menu\/","title":{"rendered":"Right-Click Menu"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There are many functions in the right-click menu inside the Sculpt Tree or Sculpt Mesh. <br \/>This option can be activated on <strong>Edit &gt; Preferences &gt; Viewport &gt; Enable SculptTree Properties by RMB:<\/strong> <br \/><em>Enable or disable RMB properties window in Sculpt room. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Window may be disabled as well by assigning hotkey in Windows-&gt;Popups-&gt;Trigger volume properties window.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of them are unique to this menu; most however are not and can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/manual\/workspaces-rooms\/sculpt\/geometry-submenu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Geometry Menu<\/a> at top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RMB on Voxel mode<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"288\" height=\"833\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/RMB-onSurfaceMode.jpg?wsr\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13652\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/RMB-onSurfaceMode.jpg 288w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/RMB-onSurfaceMode-104x300.jpg 104w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RMB on Surface mode<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"283\" height=\"797\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image-113.png?wsr\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11938\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image-113.png 283w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image-113-107x300.png 107w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Much of the power of surface mode is found in the functions contained in the Sculpt Layer, \u201cRight-Click\u201d menu set. <br \/>Perform Layer Merging, create Boolean associations, clean up scanned mesh data, make \u201cshell\u201d structures, create radial symmetry arrays, adjust and resample voxel resolution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All these things and more can be done with this set of functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RMB commands<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reference Colors:<\/strong> Choose the color to highlight the object in the SculptTree. <br \/>Those colors are just color tags for objects inside of Sculpt tree panel. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"527\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ReferenceColor.png?wsr\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13654\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ReferenceColor.png 527w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ReferenceColor-300x102.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Settings:<\/strong> <br \/>&#8211; Show Density near the Volume&#8217;s Name.<br \/>&#8211; Show Polycount near the Volume&#8217;s Name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Live booleans:<\/strong> At its current stage, it works only with voxel volumes. <br \/>Add the child object to any voxel volume, press RMB-&gt; Live Booleans-&gt; assign the operation: difference, intersection, summ.<br \/>Press the ghost icon in the Sculpt tree to view the object regardless of the Boolean operation applied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Complex Booleans operations are supported:<\/strong> you may, for example, subtract Object 1 from Object 2 and then subtract the resulting object from Object 3. <br \/>Also any complex combinations supported.<br \/>(Collapse the tree to the surface object if needed.) Press the Boolean operation icon to disable it temporarily and make the object visible. Press RMB over that icon to change to operation quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f1f1f1\">You may assign a hotkey to change the Boolean operation over the picked object.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"526\" height=\"275\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/live_booleans_rules.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/live_booleans_rules.jpg 526w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/live_booleans_rules-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Soft voxel booleans are supported for cut\/split\/clone\/primitives. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Baking supported for Live booleans.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to live booleans via the python\/CoreAPI. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Live booleans work correctly during any sculpt changes, just on-the-fly, also the collapsing to regular mesh available via RMB-&gt;Collapse boolean tree. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any complex hierarchical boolean combinations allowed, union support, correct work with instances (instances may not work with LB, but at least instancing stops if booleans are used). <br \/>Correct picking, so retopo is possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Correct painting over boolean volumes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you ghost the volume that participates in live booleans, it becomes visible (but still cuts the parent). This way you may see and sculpt it (enabling ghost picking &amp; acting). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Live booleans may be correctly bound to hotkeys. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Merge visible\/Merge subtree work correctly with the Live booleans. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Correct export for 3d printing with live booleans. Merge visible\/subtree to surface\/voxels works correctly as well. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Autoretopology supports Live Booleans, you may do autoretopology and baking without booleans collapsing. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Correct &#8220;Retopo via decimation&#8221; with Live Booleans. Python API volume-&gt;decimated mesh functions extended. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RMB-&gt;Export selected objects supports Live Booleans correctly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"3DCoat Live Booleans\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zCc4_ViTFWU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br \/><strong>Show All Hidden Volumes:<\/strong>&nbsp;Show All Hidden Volumes. If any Sculpt Tree objects are hidden, this command will make them visible. <br \/><strong>Show Hidden Volumes in SubTree:<\/strong>&nbsp;Show Hidden Volumes in SubTree. <a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:sculpt_workspace:sculpt_menu#show_hidden_volumes_in_sub-tree\"><\/a>If any children Sculpt Tree objects are hidden from the object you RMB click on, invoking this command will unhide them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Delete<\/strong>:&nbsp;Deletes the selected Layer.<br \/><strong>Add Child:<\/strong>&nbsp;This is the same as clicking the \u201c+\u201d icon near the Layer\u2019s name. It adds a Layer that is a child of the current Layer.<br \/><strong>Rename:<\/strong>&nbsp;Type your name for the Layer instead of the default \u201cVolume XXX\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Decrease object 2X:<\/strong>&nbsp;Increases the selected object Layer\u2019s density twice. The object will decrease twice.<br \/><strong>Increase object 2X:<\/strong>&nbsp;Decreases the selected object Layer\u2019s density twice. The object will increase twice.<br \/><strong>To global space:<\/strong>&nbsp;Moves the object to 0 on all axes. This is great when you need to move something directly into the center of world space to allow for a more perfectly symmetrical object when symmetry is active.<br \/><strong>To uniform space:<\/strong>&nbsp;Applies orthogonal symmetry across the designated symmetry axis. Transform the scale along the axis and make the axis orthogonal to make space uniform. <br \/><strong>Resample:<\/strong>&nbsp;Duplicates the same command present in the Surface Tools. This function allows you to change the polygonal count of the entire selected object. You can even specify an exact polygonal count with this function.<br \/><strong>Radial Array:<\/strong>&nbsp;Allows you to duplicate the geometry in a Sculpt Tree object radially, with any number of slice counts to the array. <br \/>This applies all settings you have made while using the \u201cRadial\u201d tool, with any number of slice counts to the array. The geometry will remain in the same SculptTree object it was originally in. <br \/>The geometry can also be created as instances of their objects in the SculptTree, instead of the original by turning on \u201cInstance\u201d in the Tool Options panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s look at the tool options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To X\/Y\/Z: Aligns the Rod Transform gizmo to the specified axis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Begin\/End: Allows you to specify the exact coordinates numerically of the beginning and end of the Rod Transform gizmo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gizmo Length: Numerically specify the length of the Rod Transform gizmo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Screen-Based: Sets the size of the gizmo to be relative to the viewport.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Array Count: The number of radial slices of the array.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Instance: Create instanced VoxTree objects instead of duplicating the geometry to the same object. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Extrude:<\/strong>&nbsp;Extrudes all objects in the current layer outwardly by a specified amount. <br \/>Enter the amount in the Extrusion parameter Dialog. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"164\" height=\"82\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8188\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Extract Shell:<\/strong>&nbsp;Erase all internal volume of the object so that only a shell will remain. Makes a hollow skin based on a solid voxel sculpture. There are two versions of this function:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Make a shell using voxels:<\/strong>&nbsp;Make a shell mesh using the voxel algorithm. It takes more time to calculate but works well for complex topology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thicken Using Surface:<\/strong>&nbsp;Thicken the mesh object using surface extrusion. It is fast but can cause artifacts on complex topology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/AYwuDL3RcP8?list=PL0614F2A03AD725CD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Fill voids<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp;(Close Holes in Surface) Makes any voxel object a contiguous solid, which is necessary for creating proper topology automatically or manually. This tool fills inner voids or hollows in the model.<br \/><strong>Close Invisible Hulls:<\/strong>&nbsp;Close invisible hulls inside the object. Even if the hull is not completely closed, it may be closed by this tool because only a small outer part of the hull is visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/U0gsauPVHWI?list=PL0614F2A03AD725CD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Thicken<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp;(Surface mode only) Thickens the surface. Colors will be preserved.&nbsp;<br \/><strong>Close Holes in Surface:<\/strong>&nbsp;(Surface mode only) Close holes in the mesh.<br \/><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/x2hLoQlj4r8?list=PL0614F2A03AD725CD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Separate Disconnected Pieces<\/a><\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/x2hLoQlj4r8?list=PL0614F2A03AD725CD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(<\/a><\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/x2hLoQlj4r8?list=PL0614F2A03AD725CD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Objectify<\/a><\/strong>):&nbsp;(Surface mode only) Creates an object in the Sculpt Tree for each separated piece of geometry and places the geometry into those objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Save volume to 3B:<\/strong>&nbsp;Saves the voxel volume without subtree to the 3D-Coat native file format.<br \/><strong>Save volume with subtree as 3B:<\/strong>&nbsp;Saves the voxel volume with its subtree to the 3D-Coat native file format.<br \/><strong>Import 3D File:<\/strong>&nbsp;import an external .3B file into the scene.<br \/><strong>Edit shader settings:<\/strong>&nbsp;Edit the custom shader\u2019s parameters if it has them. Opens the shader editing dialog for the current layer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IMPORT:<\/strong>&nbsp;Imports objects to Scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Import Point Cloud:<\/strong>&nbsp;Import a set of points as a sequence of small spheres.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Import object:<\/strong>&nbsp;Import a standard 3D object into the scene.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EXPORT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Export scene:<\/strong>&nbsp;Exports the whole scene as a set of separate objects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Export Selected:<\/strong>&nbsp;Exports the selected object.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Save to Meshes Panel:<\/strong>&nbsp;Export the current object to be used as a preset in the Meshes panel. A Preview of the current Layer object will appear in the \u201cModels\u201d Panel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Save to Splines Panel:<\/strong>&nbsp;Export the current object as a profile for the Spline panel. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Decimate &gt; Auto-UV Map &gt; Export:<\/strong> The simplified export of the current sculpt object &#8211; retopo via decimation, auto-map, export as a low-poly model with the texture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"autopo_automatic_topology\">Autopo (Automatic Topology)<a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/dokuwiki\/doku.php?id=general:sculpt_workspace:voxtreercm#autopo_automatic_topology\"><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Runs the Auto Retopology routine to create an automatically generated mesh with automatically generated UV maps, using 3DCoat proprietary GUUV unwrapping method or another unwrapping algorithm. You can specify guides for the edge loops and even paint areas where you wish for more polygonal density. You can also specify hard-edge options. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This revised and improved <a href=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/manual\/workspaces-rooms\/retopology\/autoretopo\/\">Automatic Retopology<\/a> creation function now automatically produces a very accurate, contour-following topology that works equally well for both organic and mechanical shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Retopo via decimation:<\/strong> <br \/><strong>Retopo via decimation visible objects:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transform:<\/strong>&nbsp;Transforms a whole object using a special gizmo.<br \/><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/gm2fd4KQgDY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Snap to Ground<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp;Snap the object to the ground (zero). Only vertical parallel motion will be used. <br \/>Objects will be moved and rotated to get a physically stable position on the ground.<br \/><strong>Lay On Ground:<\/strong>&nbsp;Lay the object on the ground. Objects will be moved and rotated to get a physically stable position on the ground. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/V-saQ6knzQA?list=UUinUkFMdtMciWPF-ujIZbGA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Clone<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp;Clones and transforms a sculpted object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Clone instance:<\/strong>&nbsp;Clones and transforms an instance of an object.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clone with symmetry:<\/strong>&nbsp;Clones with symmetry and transforms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clone and degrade:<\/strong>&nbsp;Clones the layer and decreases the level of detail by two times.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clone space density:<\/strong>&nbsp;Creates a clone layer with the same density as that being cloned, essential for using the \u201cCopy\u201d tool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Flip:<\/strong>&nbsp;Flips the current layer on any axis (X, Y, or Z). Flip Normals. <br \/><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xqHtqnjd7jw?list=PL0614F2A03AD725CD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Bake color from Visibles Volumes<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp;Bakes all vertex colors applied in Paint Room (Direct Painting) from all visible volumes to the current layer. This leaves the layer in Surface Mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Merge\/Move on Voxel mode: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"507\" height=\"325\" src=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/voxel_booleans.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/voxel_booleans.jpg 507w, https:\/\/3dcoat.com\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/voxel_booleans-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 507px) 100vw, 507px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Merge Visible:<\/strong>&nbsp;This will merge all objects in the Sculpt Tree that are not hidden in the current layer, leaving all visible layers intact.<br \/><strong>Merge subtree:<\/strong>&nbsp;Merges, all sub-layers to the parent layer, deleting the sub-layers in the process. <br \/><strong>Merge selected:<\/strong> Merge Selected &amp; Merge Selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" style=\"background-color:#f1f1f1\">\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/WFghEbQ_otI?list=PLlQ3JITh9bXOcshH7ALiXsMJlP4hrZjd4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pick Icon<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp;Instead of selecting the destination layer from the list, you may click here and pick the layer directly from the viewport. <br \/>The new RMB (right-mouse-button click) Layer Options greatly help facilitate \u201cpick and click\u201d Boolean type Operations, among others.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Copy &amp; Merge With\u2026:<\/strong>&nbsp;Merge copy of the object to another object. Use SHIFT+LMB in Sculpt Tree.<br \/><strong>Merge with (move to):<\/strong>&nbsp;Move the object to another object space. You may use Drag&amp;drop. <br \/>Drop over the [+] icon to move the object to Sub-Tree.
