A 5th century Saxon ring, gold, glass and sapphire, Yorkshire museum collection.

I wanted to see how this unique jewel looked 1600 years ago. The model is created from photographs, Voxel sculpt to define the overall shape and Surface mode for detailing. The challenge was to keep the detail compatible with the extremely small scale of the item and to avoid excessive neatness. I tried to understand how the ancient goldsmith would have created each part, and try and match the real life approach.  For instance, you can see that the gem locks are rolled leaves of gold, and not the abstract shape 'tube'. The micro damage on the surface is in the Vray shader. About 8 hours of work.

Excellent work. It's really cool to see some jewelry on here - 3DC lends itself so well this this type of art, and I'm glad to see more of it. Well done. :)
