In this article, read about what normal maps are and the process of baking them.

Part 1. What Normal Maps Are and How They Work
Throughout the years, I have been trying to understand normal mapping and the problems that usually appear when working with them.
Most explanations I found were usually too technical, incomplete or too hard to understand for my taste, so I decided to give it a try and explain what I gathered so far. I recognize that these explanations may be also incomplete or not 100% accurate, but I want to try anyway.

    This is Normal v1-1.pdf

  2. If you select Surface Sculpting

Or Your Sculpt mesh is on Surface mode

image.png (S) letter left to the layer name. (V) is for Voxel mode

The Pick & Paste Tool in the Surface Category on Left Tool Panel is available

Also can press SpaceBar to show QuickAccess Panel

  3. Your stencil have Indexed color mode, this is showing bad results. Changing to RGB color mode or 24bits don't show any difference.

Sincerely I don't know why the Black areas are take as White value.

Black is use to give flat results not modifying the surface, but with this stencil it works inverted.

Sorry, I don't know how to help.
Maybe asking in the Discord chat can give you a better answer.

  4. @Elemeno
Defining a workflow is what allows for optimal use of the tools and what defines us as artists.

Where will the exported model be used? In previz, cinematic, game?
    In which render engine?
Will the model be rigged later?
    Will you use uDims?

The autopo algorithm (it has been improved) is very good, but it is not magic.
There is no tool to do it fast, do it pretty, do it well, just by touching a button.
All that step need hard work.

The algorithm looks for ways to wrap volumes with surfaces, it is important to separate the model into similar "shapes" parts so that the process is effective.
Putting hands together with teeth, tongue with head, hardly gives a good result.

If it does not give results, it is the way to recognize that we have requested an operation incorrectly.

This video shows how to create polygroups for each area of the model, and thus have a good baking.
