The problem you face, is caused at simple New scene ? Sounds like a bug, as I've never had anything like that occur. Sometimes closing the app > deleting the Options.XML file (MyDocs/3D Coat V4 directory) and re-starting the app fixes odd behavior, but that may not be the source of the problem. Or before reinstall you have to delete your 3DCoat folders...delete the one in your program files directory and delete the 3DCoat folder in your my documents (you may want to backup a duplicate)...try that.

Hi ! Here is a tutorial on using primitives in 3D coat voxel sculpting room. These are powerful when combined to Subtract, Add and other tools available. Voxels are powerful feature of 3D Coat and shouldn't be underestimated even when compared to zBrush equivalent.

8596 x 4548 is a big resolution for 1000 Rays Per Frame Try lowering to 1 just to make a test. Hope this help -

Keep the original texture after unwrapping edited model

Hi, If you just deleted faces from the model you do not need unwrap. When a model is created as a polygon mesh, UV coordinates (also known as texture coordinates) can be generated for each vertex in the mesh. If the topology of the mesh was changed, the uv coordinates also vary. I think the Textured Baking Tool would help with your task. -
* The points only make smooth curves. Why not to use retopo room for that task ? Make a rough sketch, switch to retopo room. Make a new mesh adding faces. Then use the command Retopo mesh > Sculpt mesh. I think it can give you better results
