  1. Hey All, I thought it would be cool to make a short video to show the UV Path Tool in action. Not sure how many use it, but I find that it's such a powerful tool in the UV tool box. Anyway, hope this video is helpful to at least a few of you out there! Cheers.
  2. Here's a new retopology video, showing manual vs auto retopology with 3d coat.
  3. This is a timelapse video as I use 3D Coat to create new retopology on a mesh. I'm sorry the audio somehow gets out of sync at some point during the video. Cheers!
  4. Hi All, I've been playing around with the Tree Generator inside of 3D Coat and wanted a way to add leaves to my trees. So, I've come up with this technique and wanted to share with you guys. Hope you like it.
  5. Totally agree with everything you said. Very clear video. I think how things are in 3D coat now is fine for simple models with a few large parts, but very frustrating when working with articulated parts that are organized properly. The other benefit would be that if the hierarchy is more standard it could be imported and exported in and out of other applications and still maintain that hierarchy organization. I love 3d coat, but these are just great quality of life features that would help support better artist workflows.
  6. Hi All, I just made a simple video tutorial of how to make a basic knotted rope for use with 3D Coat's curve tool. Hope you like it. Cheers!
  7. When funny things like this happen to me, and others don't see it, I sometimes rename my /documents/3dcoat directory to 3dcoat_bak and then relaunch 3dcoat and let it build a completely new folder and settings. This has helped me sometimes. Not always, but sometimes. If you haven't tried this, it might be the quickest way to narrow it down to a bad setting somewhere in your current working folder. Hope that helps!
  8. @Andrew Shpagin Just tried the fix in version .42 and it works perfectly. I can't thank you enough for this.
  9. Hi, I think I may have found a bug when trying to import multiple ptex maps. I used the "object by object" export option and that wrote out the maps perfectly, but I'm running into a problem trying to import those maps back onto the models. I made a video below showing what happens. I would like to Suggest: Would be great if when using the "object by object" export option (since the ptex maps names match the mesh names) if there were an option to load the "object by object" maps from choosing a directory that contains the ptex maps. This would map the ptex maps to the corresponding mesh based on the ptex/mesh names all at once, rather than loading each texture one by one. On a complex set, that could take lots of time. I've included my simple test object if anyone would like to test with it. Thanks so much! ptexPerObjectMaps.mp4 ptexObjects.obj
  10. yes, the depth channel is disabled. This is actually very common, it happens to me all the time I'm getting better at checking for it though.
  11. @CarlosanI've Identified the problem. Not sure if it's a BUG or just a setting that needs to be fixed to make sure the scale in 3D Coat is the same across all rooms. If you import the same object in the paint or modeling room the scale will be different than if you import from the sculpt room or import via file>import>for Sculpt/vertex painting. The image below will show the difference, and this is exactly the difference I see after baking with Ptex. The large mesh is from the model room or Paint room import, the small mesh is from the sculpt room or vertex paint import.
  12. @Elemeno My steps are to bring in a mesh either through the sculpt room option in the opening menu, or to import it through the import as vertex paint mesh. How did you bring in the high poly mesh? I'm wondering if that's what I'm doing wrong, although I would think it wouldn't matter how or where we bring in the source mesh. I'm working on a project where my high poly mesh is millions of polys, and I find if I bring it in through the paint room first, I run out of memory, but If I bring it in as a vertex paint object it's fine, except for the ptex baking scale issue I'm seeing here. I would like to try and replicate your steps and see if I get a better result. Would you be up for sharing your steps? Thanks again for any help. I'm really trying to do this in 3D Coat so I can share this process with my coworkers.
  13. I just tried in version .39 and still having the same results. It only happens when trying to bake in ptex, all the other bakes are good. Not sure what to do or if this is truly a bug. @Elemeno are you saying that you are now seeing this in version .41 or are you not seeing this at all? Thanks for looking at it, by the way.
  14. I've tried the symmetry sug, even on multiple computers, even unistalled and reinstalled. happens every time. what version are you on?
  15. Hoping someone can help me out here. I'm trying to get this to work, and I'm up against a bit of a time constraint. I've been trying to bake a ptex displacement map from my highpoly mesh object to my lowpoly mesh. But after the bake process the model doubles in scale, but this only seems to happen when baking to Ptex. Am I doing something wrong? Here's a video with my process. Thanks for any help with this! ptexBakeScale.mp4
  16. Hi there! Wasn't sure if this was a bug, feature or settings option, but after rendering a turntable of hundreds of frames, it deletes the entire directory with all the images as soon as the list image is finished rendering. but does write out and .mp4 movie. It's nice to have the .mp4 video, but I'd like to keep the image sequence as well. I may need to re-render a section in the middle or the end, but currently the whole directory goes away. I've even tried rendering on a few frames, and the same thing happens. I'm running version .41, but not sure if this was happening in .39 or .40 as well. Has anyone else run into this? Thanks!
  17. Finally had a chance to try out the Modeling tools inside of 3D Coat. It's a solid start for sure, but I felt it was still lacked many basic tools. Hoping for more future tool development in this area. There's some nice stuff there already. Also did all the painting using the voxel/volumetric painting tools. That was pretty easy and convenient, and never needed to setup UV's!
  18. Seems to crash even on a simple sphere. when it crashes it just closes the application without any warning 3dc v40 retopo crash.mp4
  19. Not sure if its a bug or not, but I just upgraded to version .40 and when I open the bust model from the surface sculpt or voxel room and try to run auto retopo it immediately closes my 3D Coat session. can anyone confirm this happens to you?
  20. In the voxels space the Snake tool has the option to invert the tool from the top menu strip, which is like pressing the Ctrl key. Or from the brush's tool options panel you can have voxHide enabled, which will also hide your voxels. Are either of these options enabled? That's all I can think of that would result to what you are describing. Cheers.
