  3. Hi, I have a serial for v4 and want to download it for OS X. However I get an error message Page Not FoundReason: File "3D-CoatV4-0-04A.dmg" was not found (2)! Am I the only one? thanks, buexe
  4. Hi, I have a weird thing where I want to use the eraser tool to tweak a normal map on a polymodel. What I am getting is weird artifacts ( best I can describe this ) it seems as if there is some randomizations and a alpha map applied to the stroke. I checked the options but everything is turned off (jitters and variations). When I try to do the same thing in v3.7 the eraser works as expected erasing color, spec and normal info from a given layer. Does anyone know what else I could check to make sure I return the eraser to its "factory settings"? Thanks in advance as this is friving me a little crazy and I would love to continue to use v4, buexe

  8. I noticed that Voxel Sculpting does not work with flat shading, anyone know if that will be addressed? Would be so awesome! I tried to emulate with materials and light settings, but that didnt work out. Thanks, Jan
  9. Hey, I am on v4 beta and there this menu item "open in original app" isnt there anymore. Anyone know how to get stuff from 3dcoat to Maya via appLink? Also wanted to mention that I have a background in Maya API stuff ( Python and C++ ) so if there is anything I can help out with, please let me know.
  10. Hey, that was actually very helpful. What I missed was that it is just a matter of clicking on the right icon in the voxtree UI. In my case it was the V/S icon to the left of a layer name. I read somewhere to hit the cube icon, but since I didnt have that, I guess due to come different version, I was not able to access Live Clay. But I managed to play around with it and it seems VERY promising to me. Thanks, AbnRanger!

  12. So after about 2 hours I got a nice mesh with autoretopo as a start and then some manual love from there. I wound up deleting the inside of the hair mesh in Maya. When I imported it in 3d coat for autoretopo, 3d coat closed the volume. Of course it created polygons there as well, but I just deleted them and tweaked the seams. Overall pretty simple and straightforward from there. Again, thanks for your input, everybody! I love 3d coat!
  13. Thanks for all the input. I was not able to import this mesh as a voxel object and then switch to the retopo room. Prolly something I did wrong, but I could do it with a cube from maya. Then I tried the shell thing and while the display as better, the quad tool still behaved weird. I noticed that I can edit the mesh so I drew the conclusion that the mesh is the one I am editing and NOT the reference mesh. Then I imported the mesh Import > Reference mesh instead of Import > retopo mesh and that did the trick. I am still confused how I could have missed that, but the maya appLink did this as well. But thanks for all your input, I really appreciate it Note to self: tweak the Maya appLink plug-in asap
  14. Hi, so I have run into this a couple of times and need to find an answer why this is happening. I sculpt/create some rough geo in ZBrush, export it to Maya to check it and then would like to retopo it in 3dcoat. But for some reason all the retopo tools don+t work, the mesh looks weird, like semitransparent and w hatever tool I choose ie quad it does not work. I tried t he manual export and the appLink from Maya. Both with the same result. Autopo works to some extent but I want the manual retopo tools. So here is a screenshot and I attach an obj.   15. Hey, I was wondering if I could bring in a character that has multiple meshes that have different textures and paint on them? I havent found anything in that regards in the docs. I can bring in multiple meshes, but I am not able to bring in more than one texture. Any ideas? Thanks, buexe
  16. Andrew checked it and said there is no problem. But when I import delete and reimport objects, 3dcoat gets confused in the objects and materials section. As long as I use one and only one object everythin is fine. Would love to see some robustness when working with multiple objects. Thanks, buexe

  18. Thanks for your recommendation but when objects intersect/interact with one another it would be beneficial to see them and my system should be able to handle this, we are not talking about multi million subdivs but a couple of hundred vertices with 4k maps.

Hi, I spent quite a bit of time this week trying to get deeper into 3dcoat, one thing that I hit several times me now is that while saving my multi object paint scene the maps got screwed up, transparency and color lost and the layer0 basically got reset even though it had color transparency and what not on it. When I happen to just save and not "save as" then my scene is screwed as well as the saved file, reloading does not work. Generally little can be said against 3dCoat considering the cost/feature ratio it offers, but if it wants to be considered for professional work, than saving stuff should be a no-brainer, screwing up while saving is not good, period. I than rather stay in Maya and do my maps one by one there or in some other app, maybe even 3dcoat if one map isnt too much, as than at least get to see them in Maya without artifacts. Oldschool but at least reliable.
  20. Thanks, Dan! I was able to paint transparency now, didnt realize what materials play in this game. I get now a lot of visual artifacts on objects with transparency. I tried GL and DX versions and the GL version seems to do a better job, but still the artifacts are quite visible( I have a quadro 3700 FX btw). At least I was able to export maps now....   21. So far deleting all other objects except the one I want to export maps for, seems to work, is there a more elegant way?
  22. Hi, I have a scene where I painted maps for multiple objects, how do I export maps for each object? They have different UV sets, so I cant export just one map. Also I try to work with transparency on some maps, is there a description somewhere on how to control this? Thanks, Jan

  24. Thanks for your help! At least I didnt miss smething obvious. I noticed that I can "move" them with the draw brush, but only along their surface normal, right? Sometimes I want to move them a little bit mor on that plane, I guess Ill turn off symmetry then and use my magic MEL script to make it symmetric and placed on the plane again later in Maya.
