  1. Took me awhile, but no, I don't agree. It is a glitch - or at least poor design. You could, and should, exclude words like "the", "of" etc from search, but that is not what we are talking about. Words like "uv" (and color) may not be useful as an only search term, but that is not the point - the point is to narrow the results when coupled with other search terms.
  2. For some reason search term "color" is not allowed, which is a bit strange on an art app forum...
  3. Thanks, I think so too - the lack of proper mesh preview has come up with artists in my company several times. I made a new topic in feature request section ( http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9365 ), but it seems I don't know how to use Mantis. If someone can help with Mantis, or preferably put this in Mantis, I would be very grateful... //edit by admin 0001713: Mesh preview in retopo room
  4. A proper retopo mesh preview in retopo room would be very helpful. With "proper preview" I mean being able to quickly and easily see your retopo mesh without the underlying highpoly mesh, with and especially without the wireframe and with a solid mesh - preferably optionally with and without smoothing and with a color of your own choosing. Currently you can hide the underlying highpoly mesh with hide subtool, but then you are left with partly transparent retopo mesh with visible wireframe, which is not very good when you are trying to make out silhouette and forms. There are many useful sounding view settings (like wireframe, smooth/flat shading) in the view-menu on top, but none of them seem to work with that retopo mesh. In best case scenario, this preview could be quickly enabled with a keyshortcut, so that the user could easily and effortlessly switch to preview, check out the silhouette, and then switch back while doing the retopo. Having an option to change color of the mesh would be useful with this too - user could then, for example, view an all white mesh against black background and easily see silhouette and whether the lowpoly mesh has enough polygons. Currently the lack of preview hinders the retopo process and doesn't lead to optimal results. 0001713: Mesh preview in retopo room
  5. johnnycore, Yep, I knew about hiding the voxel highpoly: with external highpoly mesh (like something exported from zbrush) you can hide it even more easily by just pressing H - but in both cases you still end up with semitransparent retopo mesh with wireframe. The View-settings, like flat shade/smooth shade and so on, only work with the highpoly mesh - the actual retopo mesh ignores all those settings...
  6. Is there currently any way to properly preview your mesh in retopo room? With "proper preview" I mean seeing your new retopo mesh without the underlying highpoly mesh, with and without the wireframe and with a solid mesh - preferably with and without smoothing. You can hide the underlying highpoly mesh with hide subtool, but then you are left with transparent retopo mesh with wireframes, which is not very good when you are trying to see silhouette and forms. There are many useful sounding view settings (like wireframe, smooth/flat shading) in the view-menu on top, but none of them seem to work with that retopo mesh. Also, is there any way to manually change the color of the retopo mesh? Now 3D Coat seems to randomly assign different colors to that mesh. There have been many, many, times, when I would have liked to change that color to something better - especially when trying to preview the mesh (you could put white mesh without wires against black background for example.) Not being able to properly view your mesh hinders the retopo process and doesn't lead to optimal results. This should be a trivial feature to code, but at the same time very important, so I am a bit puzzled - am I missing some setting somewhere or is this functionality really missing from 3DC?
  7. Hello! I've been lurking here for awhile, but just now noticed this thread so here it goes... I'm Santtu Huotilainen from Helsinki, Finland. I work as an Art Director at Frozenbyte developing games for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC/Mac. We are currently working on I first started dabbling in digital graphics with Commodore 64 and Koala Painter, then later moved to Amiga and Deluxe Paint. In mid-90's I interested in 3D, first with Imagine and Real 3D, and soon after switched to LightWave, which I still use. After working some time in web/mobile and video fields I entered game industry in 2004 as an artist/animator in Frozenbyte's Shadowgrounds. As an artist I'm a generalist. Whenever at work I have time to actually do some content myself, I might be found doing modeling/sculpting/texturing/rigging/animating/videos/particle effects - whatever is needed. Jack of all trades - master of none, so to speak. I've been using 3D Coat as an additional tool for a couple of years. First almost solely for retopology (which is awesome, especially with AUTOPO), lately also more and more with actual sculpting. Cheers, Santtu.
  8. I can confirm: there's a critical bug in 3DC with the clipboard. If you have any image in clipboard (no matter where it came from) 3DC becomes VERY sluggish (unusable) right from the very beginning you launch the app. If you close 3DC, replace the contents of the clipboard with text for example, 3DC works - until there's an image from clipboard again... Unfortunately this renders 3DC on OSX useless at the moment - hopefully this will get fixed as soon as possible. (I'm on OSX 10.6.4, iMac11,1 = 2.8GHz i7 quad core, 4GB memory) PS. Michalis: For me this slowdown happens instantly - no need to do anything, even the opening startup windows are sluggish... This may happen because I have only 4GB and my system hangs way sooner than yours if you got lots of RAM. PPS. There were also no Trial-period for some reason - 3DC just said that trial-period has already been used and went to demo-mode. I'm pretty certain I have never installed any 3DC on this new machine before...
  9. One reason for that might be that you can't do retopo in Mudbox... Retopo might also be discussed a lot because many people, myself included, use 3DC solely for retopo. Those retopo tools in 3DC are simply put awesome - especially now with auto- retopo.
  10. Is there a keyboard shortcut for that, or can I make one if there isn't by default?
  11. Yep, I couldn't agree more. 3D Coat seems very promising and the retopology tools are great, but the current camera navigation scheme makes it very cumbersome to use in actual sculpting. Especially when you come from other apps like Silo or ZBrush - which work MUCH better when it comes rotating your object/view regarding sculpting. You should be able to freely rotate around your model without having to constantly move it just to get it back to view. Even a simple shortcut to centering the model in view would help - if I have understood correctly, there isn't one? I do love the retopology tools and Andrew has done a tremendous job, but unfortunately the cumbersome camera really ruins the experience for me. All the best, -S
