  1. if you sculpted it, it would be more realistic in close-ups, especially, cause of the shadows/depth it would then have,,so just depends on if you want it to look real or not, imo..... you can give it a realistic look with displacement maps, but some programs/render engines don't play well with displacement maps,,so if you sculpted it, then the displacement maps wouldn't be a prob to have to worry with.
  2. I have a 23'' monitor screen, but I just open 3DCoat, then open a webpage, go to Youtube, grab a tut n then downsize the internet window to the size of the video screen..fits in my 3DCoat viewport just right (see attatchment)
  3. you did great !..some very intricate modelling going on there...really nice work for the first model, imo.
  4. am wondering about the captcha that ya'll are using...aren't there two different captcha options available,,?,,one where the numbers/letters in the captcha itself are typed into a box, and the other type where the numbers/letters are on a jpg that's inside the box ?....bots have a harder time deciphering letters/numbers on an image...much easier for them to read when typed in, tho. I used to know a code that you could add to a forum to deter the bots, but can't remember how it worked now.... here's a good reference link for battling bots, tho.. http://php.bigresource.com/Keeping-Spam-bots-out-AbCRyTdl.html#UCzTTBXh
  5. that's a good idea, too,,the only downfall to that option would be that it might keep the moderators frazzled trying to check each post,(which may run into checking a few hundred a week...I've tried it that way in a forum I used to have,,it is a pita, and can wind up tying up alot of not one, but several moderators time.....),,but the questionaire would deter most all of the bots first rattle out of the box,,thus saving the moderators some wear n tear.,,
  6. here's just an example of the questionaire.. ''In an attempt to keep our forum spam-free, registrants are required to answer this questionaire ; (please copy these questions and paste them in the pop-up email during your registration) 1. Why do you want to join this forum ? 2. Do you have any prior experience with 3D Modelling ? (if not, plse skip to question 4.) 3. How long have you worked with 3D? 4. Will any other programs be used in your workflow? 5. Will you be able to contribute tutorials to the community ? 6. What is the sum of 3 + 5 ? 7. How many days are in a week ? 8. 'Apples and oranges are fruit'..true or false ? 9. Name 3 colors that are in a rainbow. 10. What is your favorite color ?
  7. I just remembered that on certain forums on the web, they use the captcha, but they also make the registrant email the administrator to ask for permission to join, and state a reason why they want to join,,you could also request info on what type of art/modelling they are most interested in,,,which programs they will be using in their workflow, ...just general questions that as a norm, a bot wouldn't know or be able to answer ....that way there's less chance of a spammer slipping into the forum... you could post the 'questionaire' in a post in the 'welcome' forum, or in a 'Read This Before Registering' sticky thread in the welcome forum..then they could just copy/paste the questions into their email (the email that would pop up during the registration) then add their answers. just food for thought, but would work better than just the captcha by itself, imo.
  8. its been awhile since I've had to register, of course, but CAPTCHA is a requirement, isn't it? that usually deters bots (to a point, at least) , ..might wanna make sure its on
  9. I was just fixin to post the very same thread ......these threads I've listed are 10000% SPAM...getting several of these a day now...plse turn up the SPAM FILTER ?? ............................................................................... bonefish grille menu Theodofoord 15 Replies 0 Views Today, 02:52 PM By: Theodofoord Тексты и слова песен ficdtekstys 0 Replies 0 Views Today, 02:11 PM By: ficdtekstys знакомства ctrcfсайты знакомств города мыск знакомства

  12. thanks for posting this, haikalle...been hearing about Houdini, but haven't had a chance to check it out til now...I installed the Houdini 11 Apprentice version for now, not sure if I installed it right or not as for the farm licensing, etc,,but the program opened up ok and gosh, there are so many whistles n bells, this really is going to be fun checking all of it out. (goes to bang head on wall,,ranting 'like I really need yet another 3d program' )
  13. wow ! that's a great savings on Painter 11 ......; Corel Painter 11 - Special Offer (with any Office, Adobe or Tablet purchase) JourneyEd Item No: 11911256 Manufacturer Item No: CorelPainterPromo SRP: $399.00 $49.95 ....................................................... (great savings on the wacoms, too) .
  14. . I stand corrected as for the size of the bamboo fun.... '''''the intuos 4 has 14.6 x 10.0 x 0.5 in Tablet Dimensions (inches).....the bamboo fun has 13.3" x 8.8" Tab.Dim.'''''' sorry bout that...was trying to multi-task again....but also, yes, intuos 4 has various sizes, but as I stated in the sentence right before the comparisons, I was making comparison between the intuos 4 medium and the bamboo fun,,, because those were the ones that Drocket had refered to for comparison...so therefore as long as that sentence isn't taken out of its context, , its completely true, I just goofed on the size of the bamboo fun....
  15. the springy brush (aka paintbrush) gives the pen a 'bounce' kinda the same as you would have when painting with a brush...the felt nib creates more friction, giving the feel of dragging rather than sliding...which gives more of a feeling of actually drawing and allowing more control in guiding the pen..and the hard nibs are good for sketching out a character,etc...opinions and results will vary per user, tho, about most all of this... but if you do wear your nibs out (which will take ALOT of extreme use, you can just go here and buy 10 packs of any nib (except the stroke nib) for about 10 bucks https://direct.wacom.com/stores/5/Replacement_Parts_C149.cfm .....the stroke nib 10 pack is about 20 bucks. (I did say 'about, cause those prices don't include s & h...but are still purty darn cheap considering how much a new pen would cost, so good thing they're replaceable) some folks tape drawing paper over their wacom just to get an even more 'real' feel of actually drawing, and keep the paper changed as it wears out....if you don't mind holdin the paper in place while you draw, then you wouldn't even need to tape it really, long as you didn't get too carried away,lol..........but as for personal preference, I just switch nibs according to the project I'm working on at the time. the stroke nib is like a combo of the felt n the hard nib, imo. as for tilt in 3DCoat, you can go to 'pen options' (in the right tool panel of the UI) n then enable the 'rotate along motion direction'..then the brush will actually turn with the direction your pen/mouse drags the brush..,,. you can also tinker with the 'pen rotation' option settings for more effects.(the less the number is the better the results may be).. your wacom is going to provide endless hours of enjoyment and experimentation, that's for sure, whether it be in 2d or 3d.. .
  16. congrats !!. .you will absolutely love your wacom.. .its recommended by some that you download the drivers from the wacom site, instead of installing from the disc..that's what I did...if I remember correctly I think even wacom recommends that its done that way, as well.... a nib extractor is inside the pen stand, and the Pen arrives with a nib ready to start using, plus 10 extra nibs=5 standard black, 3 hard textured felt nibs(grey), 1 soft flex nib (white n black)and a spring loaded stroke nib(grey)....=11 nibs total.....you'll be able to plug the usb up to the right or left side of the tab...,........my tab is parked right between me n my monitor, and my keyboard is on the right side of my tab, angled towards my right hand....if you wanna try the tilt out, PDArtist allows tilt control..great program just to play around in or create textures.
  17. ok..I've been meeting myself coming back here lately, lol...I went back n put Fugazzi's name with the terrain tutorial...I just came flying thru here the other day, clicked on one of the links in this thread, n went to watching it, thought it was one of your vids, but apparently it wasn't.......but now I'm watching your vids, and they are helping as well, so I went ahead n gave you an honorable mention ....oh, and do you have a link you'd want me to put with your ghost pic when I put the pic in my cloud threads? just lmk.
  18. wow, that's great..I've bought from ebay before, but have learned to watch very closely those I buy from at ebay...but yep, that's even more channels that will make the tabs more easily available (affordable) to not just students, but non-students as well. .
  19. I just posted this info in reply to other 3DC forum inquiries, but I thought I'd go ahead and give this info its own thread, so it would be easier to find via search.......if you're a student, or have children interested in 3d that are students, check out this site ; (my intuos 4 medium was app. 400 bucks, but would only be $269.00 with student discount..so quite a bit of savings there....and the reg price for the bamboo fun is $199.00, but is only $138.95 with the student discount) http://www.studentex...show/wacom.html Bamboo Tablet + Pen (A6) Student £53.12 Bamboo Fun Tablet + Pen (A5) Student £138.95 Graphire Wireless Tablet (A5) Student £138.95 Intuos4 Medium Student £269.73 .......................................
  20. I'm real sure that my wacom tab, pen n nibs will outlast me n then be handed down to several generations in the future , thought I'd post this info, since you're comparing wacoms...if you're a student, or have children interested in 3d that are students, check out this site ; (my intuos 4 medium was app.

  22. this is my first real retopo...I stayed outta the retopo room for a long time (as some of you know)..n when I did finally visit it, I really had no idea of what to do or why I was in there, lol..altho I was given some great tips via this forum, it just wasn't coming together for me right then.. but I just finished watching Fugazzi's terrain tutorials over at vimeo.com, n just finished my first voxel/retopo/paint workflow Greg's tutorials are helping, also, and I will be going back and watching all of the 3DC tutorials that I've already watched but just didn't understand at the time I watched them....I guess all of its finally coming together now. I exported it outta 3DCoat then imported it into DAZ...it came in without its texture, (the texture was created by combining 2 seperate material) then I imported the texture in via DAZ import options,,,and...all of the DAZ dials on the left work great on the terrain..(sizing/rotation/scale/etc)...and of course, it isn't anything real extravagant, and the texture is repttitive, but its a start , am posting it as a WIP cause I'm going to go back n tweak/retexture it,. I exported the terrain out of DAZ and when I imported it into Vue it came in with its original texture that I created in 3DCoat, but I replaced it with a Vue mat just for a test-run..so here's the terrain in Vue with a Vue mat applied ; . .
