  1. On the PC, there is a small arrow in the upper right corner of the Materials Popup. When clicked, it allows you to add folders of textures which will then be available to 3D coat. If the textures are named according to a convention, the color, depth, and specular files will all be added to a single material for applying to your model. If you RMB an existing texture and choose 'Edit Material', you can see which files are included in the material. I assume the Mac is similar if not exactly the same. The folder(s) can be anywhere and you can use the same procedure for the current version and the Beta.
  2. Thanks, that worked great. I haven't done a lot of UVing, so I discovered that I needed to use a different approach to the UV layout. 3dc is so easy to do basic UV layout, but the results did have some unmerged UVs which I fixed in Maya.
  3. That sounds like the ticket, but how do I do it? I don't see it in Fill Tool Options nor Layers Menu.
  4. Yes. In this pic, the images on the right are from a later iteration of the same file. Export displacement from current layer, normalize, .exr. Thanks for the reply.
  5. For some reason, when I export a normalized displacement map, it isn't being normalized. As I have been developing the map, I've tested a few iterations, and at some point, 3dc stopped normalizing it correctly. Any idea what I might've done to the texture to cause this problem? When exporting, 3dc reports a depth. I don't know what it means, but in the file which works correctly, the depth is between 3-4, in the file that doesn't work correctly, its 54. NPerhaps it points to the source of the problem? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
  6. FWIW, after filling the mesh with the displacement texture, I'm using the clone tool to fix areas where the texture doesn't go around corners very well. A bit tedious, but sufficient for now...
  7. Hi all. Starting my first 3dc project - to create texture/displacement for medical model (alveolus) Pretty simple - basically it's applying a texture to a spoon with some thickness. 3dc was great for redoing the uv's. Now I'm painting the displacement and have some questions. I'm using the skin cracks mask. 1) How do I spread it evenly on the model? I used the fill function, but then it stretches in some parts. When I try to retouch the stretched areas, I run into 2 other questions: 1) How do I tell 3dc to only paint depth from the mask, not the edges of the brush? 2) How do I tell it to replace the bump where I paint? If I have additive painting on, it builds on the lower layer, if I have it off, it fills in the cracks as I rotate the model. Any other suggestions for how to do this would be greatly appreciated. It would be the same as trying to apply the cracks mask evenly around a sphere. I can see that this will work great once I learn how to use it! Thanks.
  8. Hi: The applink is working for i/o of the model, but when I import back to Maya, the textures are not included. I have used both 'File/Open in original app', and 'export to Maya'. In both cases, an obj, mtl, and texture maps are saved to the 3DCoat folder. When I choose import, the obj is imported and deleted from the dir, so most of it seems to be working correctly. In the video, you have a separate dialog for importing the textures, but I don't see that in the current version. I'm using Maya 2013, no SP. Thanks.
  9. I found this thread when looking for the answer to a related problem. Here's a tip for the benefit of anyone else learning 3DC: After creating UV's on an imported model, you need to click "Apply UV set" to add the UV's to the model, else when you export it, your UV's won't be there.
