  1. I have not been using 3d coat much lately, because the computer I used for CG work died on me and my other computer that I have been using since, just wasn't up to the task. I just bought a new computer that is more than up to handling 3D Coat. I have a professional Version 4 license that I bought in 2013. Wow, it doesn't seem to be that long ago. I have been a 3D coat user since Version 3. I upgraded from version 3 to version 4. I started with an amateur license and upgraded to the professional when it was on sale, even though I wasn't a professional because I loved the program so much. I have been really pleased with the program. But I am just a hobbyist. The new tools in this new version of 3D coat look amazing with many features that I would like. I am wondering, if I want the next version at a price I can afford should I upgrade to version I already have.. Just in the time that I have been away from 3D coat so much has changed, I have to catch up on the current tool set, this new version look likes something I want.
  2. I have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I haven't done too much with 3d Coat since that time, so I have been wondering the same thing. I have had some issues with other programs and device drivers, but for the most part my computer seems to be running better.
  3. Hi Chingchong: While I am not a Christian, I do support what you are trying to do. I do not know much about gaming, but I do know something about story forms. I took many literature classes in college. I noticed both Tolkien and C. S. Lewis were mentioned. Both men were Christians and very good friends. I have not read C. S. Lewis's books; however, I have seen the Narnia movies. The movies were entertaining and the compelling. They were not expressly Christian, but they did reflect Christian values. I liked the movies. I do know Tolkien's books really well.. Tolkien wrote the Lord of the Rings to be a mythology for britian. He would not have called the Lord of the Rings an allegory. He said he did not like allegories. Notes: Tolkien: Allegory and Applicability The Lord the Rings is a heroic cycle. The heroic cycle is very common story form. It is also referred to the heroic journey. It exists in most cultures, Christian and non-Christian alike. Many of the Arthurian Legends are Heroic Cycles. Ireland has many early Christian heroic cycles (The Ulster Cycle). Hawaii and Africa have many heroic cycles in their cultures. The Ring Cycle is a Norse heroic cycle. Hercules, Perseus, Gilgamesh stories are all heroic cycles Modern day heroic cycles include Star Wars and Harry Potter (I know, many Christians do not like Harry Potter because of the magic; it is still a heroic cycle). While heroic cycles can be written either to reflect or not reflect Christian value, they appeal to people across different cultures and religions. So it may be suitable to your goals. I suggest you research heroic cycles. Joseph Campbell is a good resource on heroic cycles. Joseph Campbell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The web has many pages dedicated to the heroic cycle as a story form.
  4. I have seen a couple of tutorials about the new PBR material system in 3d coat. I think the one I saw was done by Javis Jones. I created a stone wall texture, which I was pleased with (for a first go at it). I would like to learn more about using PBR.
  5. I thought both videos were interesting and helpful. I hope that you put them back on youtube.
  6. Nice model. When I looked at your Model, I noticed that it had symmentry for the x axis on. But the symmentry type (I am not sure if I am using the right terminology) was local. Try turning the symmentry to Global. I have had similar problems to what you have described and having symmentry on gloabal seemed to improve the situation.
  7. If you go to your spline pop up window you will notice an arrow in the far upper right corner. Click on the arrow and you will see a list of folders. Click on the folder named Chains and you will find 3 splines. The last spline is called wire and may suit your needs. Many of the pop up windows have arrows in their corners (The Brush, Model, Stencil and Material windows for example). These arrows indicate that there are additional folders with more content. You can even create your own folders to contain your own content. I suggest clicking on those arrows and see what you can find.
  8. The title of this thread peaked the interest of my inner Elizabeth Barrett Browning... and Monty Python too. 43rd Sonnet from the Portuguese How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of being and ideal grace. I love thee to the level of every day’s Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light. I love thee freely, as men strive for right. I love thee purely, as they turn from praise. I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.
  9. I am a hobbyist. I tried the program and really liked it. Then I bought the educational version. I used that for a year or two and it worked fine for me. It went on sale aound Christmas and I bought the full version. I have never regretted owning 3d coat. I love the program.
  10. Are you talking about the curve tool or the newish spline tool in the e panel? I control points or nodes through the edit points table. I lay the curve or spline down as best that I can and then go into the table and adjust the points before I finalize anything. For the Spline tool in the epanel you will find the edit points table under that drop down menu (the triangle) that pops up when ever you activate that brush mode. Under the curves tool it is located under the tool options.
  11. I think you will find the option of resetting the workspace to default under the Windows menu. Please See attached thumbnail.
  12. I have figured out why you are having a problem. If you look at the 3d coat window you will notice a T and a shape right above the voxel brushes. In your case the shape is a retangle. If you roll your cursor over the retangle a panel with other shapes will appear. You can also make this panel appear by pressing E. So it is referred as your e panel. This panel controls bush pressure and mouse clicks. The problem is that you have the retangle setting selected. The retangle setting makes retangle no matter what brush you have selected. If you want your sphere brush to make spheres you need to select one of the wavey settings on the left of the panel. I have included some screen grabs for you. Hopefully this is helpful.
  13. I use both 3d coat and Blender. I think 3d coat is more flexible. I think retopolgy is easier to learn on 3d coat. Blender has a steeper learning curve. However, both programs have short tutorials that can help the learning process along. I bought thhe educational version first and then upgraded to the professional version.
  14. It would be nice if there were books available for 3d coat. The same way there are books available for other 3d packages. I would hope they would be sold at Barnes and Noble as well. I am not a real big fan of Amazon (Even though I live in Seattle).
  15. There are instructions on creating Brush Alpha in the tutorials, it is an old one. I believe there are instructions on creating them in he manual at least the older 3.x manual. In the end you can use almost small any grayscale picture that you would use as a brush in photoshop.
  16. I like fiddling with it. Just playing around without necessarily making something substantial. Also I learned how to retopolize in 3d coat.
  17. You can add new splines by going to the spline window and clicking on the plus sign. Follow the instructions. If you want to change folders you can click on the arrow button on the far right hand side of the spline button. You will find other spline folders and each folder has a plus sign to add more splines of your own creation. You can also create your own folder to place your new creations. I believe Splines can be imported as .obj or .lwo (not sure about that one). One word of warning about creating an object in anther program - 3dc tends to import objects from outside 3dc at a very small scale. So you may have to increase the size of the object be quite a bit before importing. If I import a primitive from Blender or poser I increase the scale by 1000%
  18. Actually you can do that already. Just select the curve tool, click on a spline and it will use that profile for your "curve". You can create your splines and then use them with the curve tool.
  19. I started using Blender, before I even heard of 3D coat.
