  1. Prob so, I'm not a poly modeler.I model in SW. But 2 years ago my adventure took me here over a period of time. Bump maps wont work for me, this will. Did my first retopo of a cube..retopo look like a cube....call it back in for paint looks like a potato! Yeah!
  2. Started the learning of the retopo...that certainly takes the fun away from scuplturing! Guess with retopo, practice makes perfect. I'll start with some cubes and spheres, see what works and what doesnt. Thanks for the info, I'm sure I'll have more questions later.
  3. Ok I WIL learn the art of retopo next. One more question, will retopo keep the edges sharp?
  4. I've given your break calipers some thought. They dont move, theres no moving parts why retopo?
  5. All righty then, this is slowing coming together. I was noticing your break calipers look pretty sharp, so far what I've accomplished looks very soft. How do you keep the edges clean and sharp? Theres time for the roundies and time for the crisp sharp stuff. Really appreciate the pointers!
  6. Ok the more the better... I've been following your car build. I havent started to learn the retopo, Whats the main reason for retopo? Applying external setails?
  7. being a noob I should have said the amount.
  8. I'm having some fun learning this program. I did the tire tut from philnolan3d. I do rock crawling in Modified vehicles so my tire of choice was the Krawler T/A. My rigs tires were a bit tired so I had a friend send me some pics of the tires from the buggy he's building for is daughter. Hes a Solidworks guy. In less then an hr I sent him the tire. Pretty cool! What I starting to find out is the object triangles size. They be pretty big. This tire ended up being huge. What should I be looking at to hold the objects T size to something more manageable while developing the work? Thanks!
  9. Yes I do come from a CAD back ground. Much of work I do is component parts. So given that I still would like to know where the objects are in relationship with each other. Part of what I do is sell a concept. If the concept is approved , the project moves forward. In the past I have used Solidworks and flash animation. I like what 3D coat has to offer and want to apply that art side to my concepts. I may have many component parts that need some degree of alignment, this is why I'm trying to understand better how object can be placed ( by number orientation then visual). So I have a primitive cube. I want to rotate 45 deg at the y, then place it in a location x,y,z. Thats it ..so far.
  10. Hello, I'm currently self learning this program. So I briefly went through all of the sections to get an over view. Ok now I will try to understand the Voxels section in more detail. Where I'm struggling a bit is placing the objects and rotating them exactly where I want them. Is there a detailed tut for this? Some pointers also would be helpfull. Thanks
  11. Ok I'm back and have learned a few things and still have some issues. I have not been successfull in exporting displacement. Though I have exported the displacement and sometimes 3dC doesnt export the displacement. Its clear and most likey something I'm doing wrong. I have followed the training vids but still cant get a handle on this. Yes I export with the displacement checked. Some pointers here please. edit: when using the pens for depth and then exporting the obj, on import the obj shows no depth or whats been done.
  12. Thanks, down loaded a lot of info today. Will watch and read up. Good chance the errors were probably me. Will do some more trials. I really like what I see so far.
  13. Hello, I'm totally new with this program. But I need to get samples to justify a purchase. Yesterday I was successful a couple of times painting and exporting the file obj. But many of the files became a traingular mess. If someone could get me a link or some pointers in 1 Texture an object and export it with the texture 2 Paint the object with the texture and export it. This program look like it will do what I want but does have a learning curve which I need to bypass a bit. I'm on the road a lot and manytimes without internet so I would prefer something I can read. Thanks!
