  1. i'm a games artist at thq and i'm loving the per-pixel painting directly onto my low-poly meshes. so far, so good, but i've only been using 3d coat seriously for about 2 weeks. still plenty to learn.
  2. aaaahhhhh...ok, well that certainly clears up some of my confusion--thanks very much! it still seems that you can only increase specularity with additional layers, though.
  3. i've done some experimenting painting spec on a low-poly model in 3Dcoat and just wanted to verify my findings. basically, it doesn't matter what color you paint with--you are simply applying spec when you paint with any color in the spec channel. to remove spec, you erase. correct?? i kept trying to add spec by painting white and remove spec or reduce it by painting dark grey or black. i'd actually prefer it to work this way, as it would allow me to add a new layers with spec adjustments/experiments. with the current implementation adding new layers will only allow you increase spec and you have to go back down your stack and erase when you want to reduce it. unless i'm misunderstanding how it works which is fairly likely. thanks in advance!
  4. have you tried using the curve tool instead of just extruding? i think it would work better for that sort of thing.
  5. hey, thanks for the reply. wow, that's an interesting system. i guess i'll try to remember to close it at home before going to work (but i know i'm going to forget from time to time).
  6. hey, i'm sure this has been asked before, but i tried doing a search and just got tons of threads that didn't seem related to my keywords... in any case, i'm a new owner of 3D-coat and i seem to remember reading somewhere that the license is only allowed to run on one computer at a time and that if it's caught running on two computers simultaneously my license will be revoked! that's the deal, right? i often leave my home computer running when i go to work, which means i might sometimes have 3D-coat open. does this mean that i can't use 3D-coat while i'm at work? or even out and about on a laptop? sorry if this is a dumb question or has been asked a 100 times already. thanks much, matt
