  1. I can't seem to find the feature request link? If someone would care to share it that would be great. I have a simple request which would be a huge benefit to my workflow.
  2. Digman thank you! While I don't understand all of our information yet you pretty much nailed what I'm trying to do. I want to model/tweek a model in the sculpt room paint it, export and render it in a 3rd party renderer WITH all the painted information. Seems much more complicated than I was hoping but I guess I'll have to learn it one step at a time :} Thank you
  3. Yes it's a Vox sphere (or ANY obj mesh I import) but in the voxtree turns from a V to S once you pick a smart material so I would assume that means it's turning into a mesh so why is the bump not showing?
  4. The material I see in the little sample window is not exactly the same one that gets painted on? Do I have a setting off somewhere for the bump map? I think this image illustrates the problem I'm having.
  5. Guess I need to watch more videos for painting because it's not very clear to me where any of this settings are for editing the material as you suggest. Thank you for the help.
  6. How do I reset all the painting I've done to default? I'm practicing in the pain room but I can't figure out how to reset to default as if I came to the room for the first time? Thanks.
  7. Got it sorted... Andrew pointed out that the name was changed from version 4.1.04-4.1.17 from "merge volumes" to "import as child".... I guess he said he might rename again to something more appropriate or change it back I don't know but regardless changing tool names over and over is never good from a user standpoint especially since this is now the 3rd name change for the same feature since V3..
  8. thanks anyway digman. Can anyone else please explain why this might be working this way/not working at all?
  9. Just wiped 3d coat from my computer thinking it was bugged since I have never had this issue before... Issue still remains. Can someone help me please.
  10. This is just getting annoying....This used to work just fine but then I downloaded the beta version and overwrote my original copay of 3dcoat but have since re downloaded 4.1 So now when I import objects the "import to separate instances" no longer works!!! It goups everything together? I've tested this on other files I've imported without issue and they are all doing the same thing!? If I "import as child" it breaks the design down into a dozen or more pieces so I know it is recognizing the different materials upon import BUT the import to separate instances creates the root>volume>file name but puts the [2x] in front of the name as if I increased the resolution??? This makes no sense..can anyone advise on how to fix this?
  11. Wow 4.5 beta is awful.... It's so buggy it's ridiculous. Really to much wrong for me to even begin but some of the most basic options don't even work for me anymore. For instance if I extrude an alpha on an object and hit control z it leaves TONS of artifacts on the model.. Wish saw the first post here about renaming before overwriting... lesson learned.
  12. Awesome stuff Tim, just send you a pm.
  13. @Carlosan, Yes I found this program last week and downloaded it for testing but there is still room for some major improvements, I'm going to continue to explore it simply because magics is pretty terrible... I still stand firm in that I'd love to see this all under one roof here at 3DC, it'll probably never happen but wishful thinking ya know.
  14. Sorry polyxo you're just derailing a conversation that could be more productive in the advancement of the software and to 3d printing in general. I am very well aware that finalizing physical output is not 3DC focus which is why in my initial post I say "there is a void that 3DC could be filling here for the fixing and support generation". I do not need to make assumptions about your prototyping background when you make comments like "it should be stiff but at the same time print quickly" (promptly edited out) because anyone that prints via SLA knows that print speed is based on z height NOT support structures... Regardless, say what you like I'm done wasting any further time on this thread.
  15. And my point to you (someone who clearly doesn't 3d print) is that models need to be fixed not just supported and magics cost thousands while 3DC costs hundreds. 3DC being voxel based makes fixing issues as easy as the click of a button and adding supports in the same place your are fixing models makes it a one stop shop. All that being said support building software (like magics) completely sucks and I'd like to see Andrew and his team make a more efficient process from an otherwise cumbersome one.
  16. I actually was just logging in to make this request and decided to do a search first. I completely agree with mash here, a support generator for 3d printing would be icing on the cake! I 3d print 99% of all my models for casting (jewelry) that I first process through 3DC and a support generator would just be amazing! I've introduced 3DC to a handful of jewelry production company's in the US and 3DC is now a staple in their production pipeline. I think adding this feature would help push sales for people 3D printing and want to use 3DC as a one stop shop before printing. I've been in the industry for almost a decade and I can tell you that there is a SERIOUS lack of quality support building software, which is crazy considering how many new printers are popping up. There is a void that 3DC could be filling here for file fixing and support generation for all these new 3D printers hitting the market and I know Andrew and the team could hit a home run here!
  17. A picture would be very helpful here.sounds to me like you are bringing it into surface mode and coming from rhino your model is probably not water tight and its splitting open when you try and smooth. I'm going to suggest the opposite from Carlos an and make sure you import directly into the voxel room with a poly count at a million. Smooth should work just fine now.
  18. Edit: Solved... I had to change export setting from the native program after I updated to 4.1.17 for some reason
  19. Crap..well I guess this is a good news bad news scenario :/ Thanks for the info Carlosan, hopefully we see something soon! I'm about as patient as a 95 year old man that just drank a large coffee on a road trip.
  20. Carlosan, Javis, artman, Ranger. I know one of you has answers
  21. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUJSbDcMsQM&feature=youtu.be How do I get this functionality in 3D Coat? I want to apply textures via the use of masks and see "realtime" the effect the pattern is having on the design, is that possible? I also would like to know how to expand an applied mask (or inverse of the mask) to create a uniform extrusion of that pattern around the entire design??? I know that using the fill tool in the paint room you can do something similar but even that doesn't achieve what I am after, which is basically exactly what you see in the video.
