  1. Aha, the plot thickens; so this is where he's getting a lot of his stuff from, like that shortest path algorithm...

If Pascal can learn Houdini to that level in one year that means only one thing; time to go into hyperdrive and step up our game.

  2. Also with all the talk of various render engines around here from Redshift to Radeon Pro Render to Cycles etc etc etc. some on this You Tube thread think Clarisse + Houdini is the ideal combo and I have to say when dealing with vast landscapes and intricate procedural models it does make a lot of sense. Note that the video talks of Terragen too but in fact all the terrain generation and rock forms are Houdini procedural models.

  3. Cycles vs free Octane for Blender 2.8

It's getting really crazy now. I know Mike Pan.  He's one of the devs for Cycles. He holds Blender meetups in Vancouver once a month. I was at one and mentioned the free Renderman for Blender. His eyes flashed and he said that Cycles was going to be better.

I'm beginning to understand what he was saying.

    Infinite eyes

This is a generator of procedural eyes (mathematically generated) based on cycles nodes for Blender, this is able to generate both the part of the iris and the sclera. The part of the iris besides the bump map also works as a displacement map, to get more realistic results. With this product you will be able to generate infinite photorealistic quality eyes.

  5. This guy got invited to MS headquarters in Seattle to an official presentation of its alpha, just this last September.  Flight sims are getting pretty awesome these days with DCS and Lockheed PrePar3D but even taking that into consideration the stuff he reviews in MS FS 2020 is really impressive and as a wannabe computer artist, extremely humbling.

  6. Is that optically correct caustics or is that the faked variety? I've been reading about this and I can never make out which render engine or which settings produce one or the other. That picture you posted does look impressive. I've heard VRay is powerful but not physically correct overall in it's lighting effects for example.

How long will Lux  Core be free for I wonder?  Its results look pretty impressive on its gallery page.

Cheers Tony, bit of a more interesting update this time, as it's nearly finished.

Obviously need to add the rest of the handles, and my wood PBR material needs a lot of tweaking, buuuut I'm liking where it's headed, just a shame it's 1:45am on a Monday and I've got work to wake up for in a few hours.

Very nicely done. Thanks for sharing this with us.

So, is there a plugin for this to 3dc? Or standalone version? If not, what might be the simplest workflow to get 3dc assets rendered with this tool?

Probably Blender though there's a very nice plug in for Maya too. It's interface and ability to use the material library is on first glance much easier and more intuitive than Blender's but I haven't really explored that aspect of Blender yet.

This is just the viewport real time render, not a final render btw.

I haven't been able to find any worthwhile tutorials for it in Blender so far. If anyone has some please post them. It would be appreciated.

OK so it took me three or four minutes but I got it working in Blender.
