  1. "opeaion" = operation It would be great to have a "accross all volumes" check box on sculpt tools (like the move tool does).
  2. My model is quit complex and highpoly (24M tris), which is why I have split it into subobjects. Every operation (merging, objectifyng) takes ages to complete on them. I need to regularly hide and unhide parts of the object to make them accessible to sculpt.
  3. Thankyou ajz3d. I am still looking for alterantive methods though, because your method is not very convenient for my situation. I need to hide and unhide segments of my model very frequently. (during sculpting).
  4. I am sculpting a very large model, so I have split it up into segments/separate objects. Does anyone know of a method/software to seamlessly sculpt accross multiple meshes?
  5. It would be nice if we could set hotkeys for it, I really like the way mudbox does this - In mudbox you simply hold a keydown wile using LMB, RMB, MMB to move, scale and rotate. It seems the most intuitive way, because similar key combinations are used in the viewport (alt + RMB, LMB, MMB to zoom, pan, and rotate)
  6. I cant find any shortcuts for rotating, scaling and paning textures/stencils. Are there any? there is no tooltip for them.
  7. Is there a way i can replace the checker grid/texture on my retopo mesh, with a custom texture. Edit: ah found it. select mark seams tool, and you will see a box defaulted as "simple checker" (in the tool options box along the top of your screen), drop down the list and select custom checker.
  8. thanks, 3dcoat does not allow custom bake cages. And the baking quality is... fine for previewing... but would rather not use for a final production (prefer xnormal/mudbox)
  9. I'm not entirely sure what vertex order is; But i guess that vert order wont be the same for the method above, which is with a very low poly model as the outside bake cage. btw I don't know how baking really works (you probably noticed).
  10. To be clearer on my last post, I am not using 3DC to bake, only retopo. That is why its a pain to bake (i don't want to do any baking in 3dc).
  11. looks like its probably not possible. Does anyone know of software that has decent baking, with custom scan cages? The idea is to slightly extrude the high poly model by a negative value, then decimate it, then use it as the "inside" bake cage.
  12. Does anyone know of a baking method that doesn't involve an inside and outside envelope, but just and outside envelope; My basis is that the raycasts would just stop when they hit the high-poly model - this creates a sort of inside envelope. Is this possible?
  13. Thank you very much! (is it a bug that the import object tool makes real instanced layers?)
  14. Well the separate layers are acting as instances! I edit one of the layers, and the rest are edited. Can i stop that? am using 3dc v 4.502
  15. When i import a copies of the same object with the "import to separate instance" option toggled, how do i uninstance the object later? I have found a when i duplicate an instance, the duplicate is not instanced; The scene will be composed of 50 poly-painted instances or so.... & i don't know how to duplicate 50 instances quickly.
  16. It would be soooo useful if we could just select multiple volumes using the shift key. Would also be cool to swap between world space and object space in the transform tool if the above was implemented. EDIT: OH NO o: Wrong section sorry
  17. I select the transform tool, The pick by click option is checked, when i click on a volume in the view-port, nothing happens, the transform does not change its target and i volume selection does not change. What could i be doing wrong thanks
  18. I downgraded a voxels layer and then merged a load of objects into the layer. When i click the button to restore the downgraded volume, all the objects i placed/merged into the layer are gone, while any changes to the original mesh of that layer are kept. Is there a way round this?
  19. There is no way i can open a 3b file with 3dcoat; so i have to open 3dc, then open the file inside the program.
  20. My file association for .3b files disappeared randomly, and so i clicked "choose default program" > browse > selected C:\Program Files\3D-Coat-V4.5/3D-CoatDX64S.exe. When i click ok the program is not added to the default programs list... how can i get the file file association right? Am using win 7 64bit
  21. When i saw the ambient occlusion feature for 4.5 i was overjoyed, but i soon found the detail/size of AO couldn't be controlled . i have 2 options - curvature or AO... thats a bit stingy, i expected a an adjustable filter value to change how fine i wanted the AO to be. Are other people after this? Could you guys make a request on this feature, How hard can it be to implement?
  22. Edit: backfaces do infact bake, but normal maps do not bake properly. is there anyway to make backfaces bake into normal maps properly?
  23. Aha, i found the "bake texture" function in the retopo drop-down menu produces good heightmaps, however it does not bake backfaces. I have backface culling off in view tab, but the back-faces of the high-poly mesh are not baked into any of the texturemaps. It is for foliage; how can i make it bake backfaces?
  24. Is there a way i can bake good quality depth like the "export depth along y" in sculpt room, but for a mesh in the paint-room or a reference mesh.
