I downloaded the 30 day trial version of 3DCoat like a week ago and I like what I'm seeing so I want to purchase it. I noticed that I got an email with a special offer for a discount back then. I followed the discount link and had a discounted version in my shopping cart. However, I didn't buy it right away because I wanted to wait a little bit and check a few tutorials. I now tried to follow the discount link again but it just leads me to an empty shopping cart and whenever I try to add the "normal" 3DCoat version again, there appears to be no discount at all.

Am I doing something wrong or is the discount added later on either way if I purchase it within the 30 day trial period?

Hello, can you please write an email to sales@3dcoat.com and indicate the email of your Pilgway account there. We will make a special offer manually for you.

Hi to everybody, especially to @stas3dc, @Carlosan

I am really happy to see that some people are happy that they got their updates in time and for the price of 45€ (as is offered in the contract).

I am just in the situation to update my 3DCoat version which I bought in Jan. 2023 to the latest stable version 2024.13

I do have the possibility to load the update, but it´s a learning version and limited to only some days.

The company sent me an update link for 300€!!

I´m still looking for the link for the update of 45€, because I am, of course, willing to pay the 45€.

But beside this, it may be not known by Pilgway that starting from 2022, there are new legal regulations about selling software in Europe. These regulations clearly say that the vendor is responsible for providing a stable and error-free software. Because error-free software is not possible, the manufacturer is obliged to provide free updates to the users to guarantee error-free and safe software. The manufacturer is not obliged to provide free additional functionality to the users.

Here is the corresponding link. The link is from the "Europäische Verbraucher Zentrale".

    https://www.evz.de/einkaufen-internet/gewaehrleistung-und-garantie/was-versteht-man-unter-digitalen-produkten-und-digitalen-dienstleistungen-evzde.html

As well the corresponding paragraph in German language.

"Was versteht man unter der Aktualisierungs- bzw. Updatepflicht?

I do hope that my translation above is correct, concerning the content. (I am not a professional translator and this is not any legal advice, it is for information only)

So, regarding the legal basis, there should not be any charge applied for a necessary update. But as I said, if anybody could tell me how to update and get another year of free updates for 45€, please let me know.

    Best regards

    Walter

PS: So, right now I updated to the latest available version 2023.12. Sorry to say, it´s still very buggy, especially when importing objects with multi layers in Paint room, when working with Paint room, UV room and Modeling room in conjunction. (However, this not the topic at hand here, nor is it the time to go into this issue any deeper)

Hello, please write an email to sales@3dcoat.com and indicate which email did you use for the purchase of 3DCoat. We will solve problems with the upgrade for 45 Euro. There should not be problems.

Concerning free updates. In all our 3DCoat versions there can be some bugs, and we try to solve that problems. We have this disclaimer in our EULA:

I currently have free updates until 15.09.2024, but i cannot figure out how to update it. i used Update Manager and it didn't update to 2024?

unless im just missing something i mean.

Hello, the current 3DCoat 2024.12 build is not considered as stable , that is the reason why Update Manager hasn't prompted to update. Please download 3DCoat 2024.12 from the website and then, after the release of 3DCoat 2024.13,  Update Manager will prompt to update.

Howdy, account says I should still receive updates through July, but though I see both my 2023 3DCoat licenses listed, I see no upgrade indication for 2024?

As it was just announced today, will that be a future change (hopefully before July)?  Or will my existing 2023 3DCoat licenses just continue to work for 2024 3DCoat releases?  I'm just trying to understand what, if anything, I need to do to obtain licenses that will work for 2024 3DCoat releases.  Thanks!

    -John W

Hello John, you should do nothing now; if you have permanent 3DCoat 2023 license, your current 3DCoat 2023 license is enough to use permanently all 3DCoat 2024.xx versions released before the same day of July 2024 (the same day of July 2023 when you made the purchase of 3DCoat 2023)

I would definitely have informed people if that had happened or even if a good old "blah blah blah" response had entered my inbox. Sadly, I've heard nothing. It's just... Yeah. It's a terrible way to build customer trust. I can chalk some of it to mitigating circumstances, but the rest is just poor form.

I haven't gotten a single response in the least. Not in spam. trash, inbox, or my dreams. This thread is the most of I heard on this topic in weeks. No brotherly love where cash is involved, I suppose. ;)

Hello, my name is Stanislav, I am a director at Pilgway LLC. Today I just saw this thread. I am sorry for all that stuff. The guy who is in charge of answering users' questions was ill some time ago and maybe that influenced your problem. I am sure we need to refund you the latest purchase of the full license.  I sent you an email and gave my Skype nickname there. Please call me on Skype. Let's talk, please explain the problem and I will do my best to solve it.

It's a permanent license. Of course it's still working. However, since the update period ended on the 20th of July, I'll no longer be able to use updates past v2023.25 which was released during that period of eligibility.

As you well know, because Pilgway's official stance is that they're not in the business of selling maintenance, permanent license holders need to purchase an upgrade to prolong that 12 month period. That's why the absence of the upgrade button on my account page is so frustrating. It worked fine for me last year, moving from v2021 to v2022. Just not this year.

For now, I'm still okay in the sense that I can keep working via v2023.25. A permanent license is a permanent license. I just can't go past that v2023.25 version to receive new features or bug fixes until I resolve the upgrade issue.

I would REALLY prefer to avoid spending 379€ on a fresh license to accomplish the same thing as going with an upgrade. If I had to then I would, but it's not my first choice of solutions. It's that danged gnarly upgrade button. Grrr. ;)

I am sorry for the delay in answering. The situation is very simple - you do not have the upgrade button because we did not make any new version after the 20th of July in the Download section. We put v2023.25 on 19 July to Download section and that is the reason you can use it. But we did not make any new version in the Download section after 20th of July. Please understand the logic - in order to make the upgade for some money (45 Euros), you need to have some new version to upgrade to. Because the last version v2023.25 is already available for you for free. When we will put the next version in the Download section (it can be  v2023.26 or  v2023.27 or v2023.28...  and not just new beta on the Forum) AFTER your free upgrades date -  the 20th of July - THEN the upgrade button will appear in your account. It can take even two or three weeks after your date - the 20th of July - but only after that the Upgrade button will appear. You lose nothing - you can still use the latest version available in the Download section. And when the new version appears in the Download section after your 12 months free upgrades period expires - then the Upgrade button will appear in your account.

when I log into my account, it says permanent. Do you know how I might be able to contact the sales team? Thanks in advance.

Please uninstall first your current license . Then please run 3DCoat one more time and make the login from 3DCoat or download your license file from your account and then upload license file inside 3DCoat. image.png

    Hi Stanislav

Ok, thanks  - That explains it. But since you are going to increase prices after the sale an upgrade from 3D Coat V4 to 2023 now at current sale price would probably be better financially than waiting 3 months for my 2022 version to expire and then buy the upgrade for normal price that is increased on top of that.

I will always prefer to have the latest version installed.

    Best Regards

    Hans Christian

Hello Hans Christian, the upgrade price from 3DCoat 2022 will be 45 Euro, but from 3DCoat V4 will cost 89 Euro for V4 Prof and 230 Euro from V4 Amateur.

    Hi folks

Am I the only one not getting an answer from Pilgway when trying to sort out an upgrade question regarding the ongoing sale? My current license (2022) runs out in July and it would be preferable to extend that license instead of upgrading the license form V4 since that would give me a 1 year maintenance but then I miss the 3 month left from my current maintenance.

But it's impossible to upgrade from version 2022. If that's the case then what's the point of having the sale then? The current sale price is just like the regular price x 3/4 for loosing 3 month of maintenance.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks

    Best Regards

    Hans Christian

Hello Hans Christian. We do not have the option for 3DCoat 2022 upgrade if your 12 months free upgrade term is still going on because we do not sell maintenance itself.

We sell only licenses for the ready stable releases in the Download section ( with subsequent 12 months of free upgrades as a gift - but that is not equivalent to the sale of maintenance from the law perspective  ). Please find more explanations here https://3dcoat.com/documentation/manual/getting-started/activating-3dcoat/ .  That is why you cannot make the upgrade of your 3DCoat 2022 now.

Now you can download 3DCoat 2023.09 and use it. You will be able to make the upgrade to the nearest stable build after your free upgrade term is finished. The sale is going on for the people who have finished 12 months free upgrade term. Sincerely, Stanislav.

Logging in and out doesn't help me.

I haven't installed a new version since 2022.39 which was still within my yearly update cycle. If I update to 2022.41 which was released after my free yearly update cycle expired, will this trigger the upgrade offer to appear in my account?

    Or should it appear automatically?

    Either way it isn't appearing.

    Thanks,

    Andrew.

Hello Andrew - when the next stable build (not beta on the forum) will be available in the Download section (https://3dcoat.com/download/?download=windows) after your free yearly update cycle the upgrade offer will appear automatically in your account. The logic is the following - we sell the upgrade - we do not sell just the maintenance officially. We sell license for the last stable build.  12 months of free upgrades after the last upgrade is just our gift.

So if you want to buy the upgrade, you should have something available to buy. So there should be at least one stable build (not beta on the forum) in the Download section which you could not download during your free yearly update cycle. Now 3DCoat 2022.39 is the latest stable build in the Download section, which was still within your yearly update cycle (as you wrote). That is the reason why you can not make the upgrade. So please wait a little bit when we make the next stable build in the Download section. I hope that will be this week. After that the upgrade offer will appear automatically in your account.

    The video here says:

The video demonstrates the use of 2 new tools in the Modeling room with the help of imported .iges curves (the extra module for export/import of .iges curves will be available after the 3DCoat 2021 release):

Only seems to import EPS at the moment? What does it mean by 'extra module' and what time frame can we expect this?

    Thanks

The extra module for export/import of .iges curves will be available in approx several months. Another extra module will be Moulding tool - the tool for preparation of Moulding forms from the 3D model.

    Hi @L'Ancien Regime

thanks for your opinion and your experiences. That's very important and helpful to me. Ah - and thanks to your little historical backflip ... didn't know.
What bothers me is the workflow (and so in partially the UI) of 3DCoat. I'm coming from Photoshop & Co. The "new" workflow in 3DCoat is - for me - very strange. I wish there would be tutorials on "how to make a workflow transition from photoshop to 3dcoat" or so. ;) Substance has layers and ZBrush too - and they work "similar" like Photoshop's. But 3DCoat's layers work in a different way - and vary from room to room - as far as I understand it. You can not easily turn off/on layers, group them, lock them and so on. I watched the following video for this:

    It's ... not very handy. ;)
When it comes to painting and texturing, I would have the freedom to switch between layers - "play" with them (visibility, group, lock, change order for effects and so on). Is this now possible in 2021? Layers in Substance Painter makes it similar (not equal but similar).

So ... it's not only a question "ZBrush or 3DCoat" but "ZBrush or Substance Painter or 3DCoat".
Remember: This thread primarly contains the big question: "What's better for painting/texturing?" I know there are many other tools in 3DCoat - but that's not the actual theme of this discussion. ;)

    Please look at this

Re: igis curve import can anyone get this working, seems totally mad to introduce a feature and not have it work at all but I guess we are in 3DC land :/

Using B47 can't add 3D primitves in a sculpt layer (bug)

    - Rich

Sorry, we forgot to add Iges & Moulding to the Beta test license as they will be sold as separate Extra Modules. Now we added that functionality to the new Beta test license. Please download the new license here and you will be able to make Iges curves import.

    thanks.

That means the license file for 3dCoat 2021. They are not being sold yet. The license key for 3dcoat V4 does not fit there. Please use in Free Trial mode only

No, you already have a V4 version, it doesn't matter which V4.**, even if you bought it in 2013,  so please just wait until the release of V2021  and then make the upgrade

On the other hand, kinda bad news for Hobbyists, as from  now on this target group will have to pay as a freelancer to have the 2021 version, and please correct me if I'm wrong.

(Individual license practically merges amateur and pro licenses in one license for commercial use with a cost a bit higher of current pro license).

Your concern is understandable. And there’s a few thoughts for a possible solution here.

First off, on top of the main 3DCoat, we plan to introduce a new cheaper product (this is yet to be announced), based on 3DCoat’s texturing & materials tools. Maybe that could work as an option for some of the hobbysts.

Secondly, we plan to introduce not only the one-time purchase option, but also renting of 3DCoat, where you’d have monthly payments, which would be much more affordable an option.

Thirdly, and you can take it as a kind of lifehack, say you download the 30-day trial and it expires, yet you could continue using the program and all the toolset even after the trial expires, with an exception of the exporting (you can still save your models in the internal 3DCoat’s format though) and rendering functions (render with watermarks) . So, that would essentially allow you to use the program completely for free:). And say, If you need to export your model in an external format or render it without watermarks, you can pay one-month rent and then cancel the subscription. Technically this could work as a good option for those who just started learning 3D modeling and are not ready to buy the full license just yet.

The Individual license is designed for personal use, such as with solo artists working on their own project, hobbysts and freelancers.

The above can appear confusing. The use of words "for personal use "sometimes means, you can not use the software for a commercial project.  Freelancers implies commercial use.

I am pretty sure this is not what those words convey " for personal use" in the announcement about personal use.

I would suggest adding "commercial use allowed " to make sure there is no misunderstanding.

We will lift all the technical and commercial use restrictions (such as with the Amateur license now), as well as remove the platform dependency.

This does make it more clear about the two license types, though a quick reading one could overlook it, so the above I believe is still a good idea.

Of course, Individual license allows commercial use. Added "commercial use allowed " here https://3dcoat.com/2021announcement/
