  1. Hi all, I'm stuck. Is there a way to export my 3dcoat object into a DWG file?
  2. Hi, I must've made a mistake when scaling during import, but now I cannot see anything when I try to import a model... I'm running 4.5.40 and when I import for voxelization I cannot see the mesh. Is there a later version I can update for free?
  3. Hi all, I have a ring model with an engraving on the inside. The ring was modeled in Rhino and I use 3dCoat to smooth the edges. The problem is that when I render the ring in Blender the inside of the engraving is unrealistically smooth and shiny. Is there anything I can do in 3dCoat that could roughen the surface of that engraving?
  4. Hi Carlosan, I'm running 4.5 and I don"t see these options. Are they available only in a later version? Thanks
  5. Hi all, Is there a setting where I can modify the strength of the general smooth button in the Sculpt menu? Thanks
  6. Surely. I'm just going with the mesh automatically given to me by the Rhino stl export tool. I don't know anything about retopology. However with Fbx I had no holes, only some lines that I could still smooth. The resulting file is also more than twice as small. 11Mb for the fbx vs 26 for the stl. I don't understand why fbx isn't recommended over stl. Maybe because of 3d printing requirements?
  7. Thanks, I will. I've noticed that there are no holes if I import an Fbx file. Still some lines, but much better.
  8. Hi all, After having solved the faceting on my model due to low poly (had to increase the detail resolution in the stl export settings in Rhino), now I have holes in my mesh when I voxelize. The problem disappears when I import the same model with a lower poly count, but then I get the dreaded faceting with the lines. I know that this problem has been mentioned previously on the forum, but the solutions don't work, and I think that it has more to do with the export Is there anyone who works a lot with Rhino and knows the best export settings to have a smooth and solid model after voxelization? | Also, can 3dCoat voxelize fbx files? I'm running 4.5.
  9. Problem solved. I needed to change a value in Rhino's stl export settings. ( Maximum distance, edge to surface) Thanks to all
  10. Thanks but earlier you said "and then converted it to voxel mode". How do you do that?
  11. Thanks for trying. Question: how do you convert to voxel mode? Without a shader it's hard to see the smoothness of the surface on your screenshot. When I follow your steps, it seems that in sculpt mode, the smooth brush doesn't smooth the sharp angle where the bezel connects to the shank, which is why I'm using 3dCoat in the first place. To smooth sharp angles. So there is no alternative to bringing it straight into sculpt mode and using the smooth brush everywhere.
  12. Hi all, When I import an stl mesh for voxelization into sculpt mode, I get lines on all the curved surfaces. The only way to reduce them is to subdivide before applying, but it's not perfect and I still have to pass a smooth brush everywhere to try and get rid of those. How can I avoid those lines? Could it be because of the stl export settings in Rhino3d? I attach an image to illustrate. Thanks in advance for your help.
  13. Thank you. Yes I can import in retopo and then the relax works. But it messes up other parts of the model. If I export and re-import into sculpt mode, the lines are better but still there, and other parts are very messed up. So Retopo and relax is not the solution to this lines problem. Another question: when I import the model in sculpt mode, why don't the lines disappear when I increase the resolution or scale? Could it be due to the export to stl settings in Rhino? Actually, since this is nothing to do with the Relax tool I'd better make a new topic.
  14. Thanks for the reply. I don't understand. Even after I commit the object to the layer, my "current obj tris" is still 0. The only thing that reduces the issue is clicking subdivide before applying.
  15. Hi all, I'm using 4.5.40, and I'm getting lines on my models when I import for voxelization. I don't know why I'm getting those, but I saw on the forum that the Relax function could solve this. However when I try to use it, nothing happens. (fyi I can only access that function when I go into Retopo mode, not in Sculpt mode) Am I missing something? I attach an image to show what I mean by "lines" on my models. Thanks in advance for your help.
  16. Hi, I'm wondering if there's a way to limit the "smooth all" to certain parts of the model. If I smooth by hand it's always a mess so I'd rather use smooth all, but there are parts of the model that mustn't be smoothed. What can I do? Thanks for your help
  17. I don't know about Octane but I use Keyshot for rendering and it uses cpu. Does 3DC use CUDA? The only graphic software I use are Rhino, 3DCoat for smoothing, Photoshop and Illustrator I read about the Cuda thing, but according to a Rhino bench marking test, an R9 290 had much higher results than even the latest GTX in mesh tasks. Plus I find the whole idea of using drivers to cripple a card really annoying.
  18. Thanks Yes I am now thinking of buying a GTX 970.. I was a bit weary of the Geforce because I use Rhino and it seems that Nvidia uses it's drivers to stop the Geforce cards from performing properly with backface rendered meshes nor with floating point operations, in order to protect it's more expensive cards. So it will be either a GTX 970 hoping it will perform, or a Radeon R9 290
  19. Hi, I'm going to build a new pc for CAD, and I was wondering if there were any owners of the Nvidia Quadro K2200 card who could tell me if it's a good card for 3DC? Thanks in advance Seb
