  1. Yes, but this object is already applied. If you remember, I said, I don't want to hit the Apply button before I can verify the size it's being imported. What I was hoping for is a way to check size prior to committing the voxels, and avoid spot-checking afterwards, which is imprecise and counterproductive.
  2. v4.7.16 was just installed. No change in behaviour. Maybe it never worked for the Mac.
  3. I just downloaded and installed the latest version for MacOS, and it's 4.7.11 (GL 64). Even so, the result is still the same: no lengths in mm. I could not find a 4.7.19 version––at least not anywhere obvious enough.
  4. Carlosan, I used the dialogue you show, set exactly so and then clicked OK. The result is the same: zero dimensions (just as shown above in my image).
  5. Thank you Carlosan I didn't know this was there. However the panel you show, though it allows to define the length type, still does not show any dimensions. Here is the statistics panel, before the Apply is invoked (see image).
  6. When I import an obj mesh into 3dCoat, I get the Tool Options panel opened up with various options, except what is most critical to me: the XYZ dimensions in real measurements (preferably in mm). Voxel resolution is irrelevant. I don't want to hit the Apply button before I can verify the size it's being imported. I have looked everywhere for some panel that shows the size and saw many tutorials. Am I missing something, or is there nothing there?
  7. Is there a way 3DC can calculate object mass (volume) and weight based on a material (i.e. 24K gold), and find the weight centre-point of an object?
  8. Just to clarify what I meant by “choppy”: When you create a height map, Photoshop uses 256 steps to gradate everything between full black and full white, assuming you are in 8-bit mode and not above. Height maps, such as the one you show above, can therefore have a maximum of 256 levels (steps) to draw a surface relief to full height. That is, of course, if zero grey value is used as zero height, and 256 (full white) for max height. Think of a lego mountain 256 blocks high, or a Mayan pyramid that rises 256 steps. If half of these steps are used for subsurface elevations (to create cavities) you have only 128 steps by which to create the relief. If the relief height is extreme, a stepping effect will become visible sooner than with an elevation using 256 steps. In Photoshop this is called banding.
  9. digman, I have two questions: 1. When you say "127,127,127" I take it you are creating your maps in RGB. Can greyscale be used, which have only one channel? 2. Is there a way in a alpha to set the zero point at 0,0,0? I am asking because a middle grey as zero reduces the height scale increments to half, which in some cases may look choppy.
  10. This is where the industry is going. If you don't tacle it now, you will have to at some point. I say, go for it now and stay on top.
  11. Great! If I could add my input also, during import, and prior to voxelisation, some dimensions panel should display the physical size and global position of the imported mesh, and allow for resizing, scaling, rotating and adjusting the voxel density, before the mesh is committed. Settings (particularly rotations) should be inherited so that objects can be set back to zero at any time later in the project.
  12. Hi carlosan, Could you tell me how your dialogue box is invoked? I have not been able to locate a “Geometry > Define measurement units” menu path.
  13. Hi puntoit I am glad you understand the issue, which has to do with productivity. I will have to try out the dialogue box in carlosan’s solution. Maybe it’s what I am looking for. But the problem of space management in real units remains. I would like to import a mesh and define on the spot its desired dimension. I don’t think poly counts are helpful in this case, and even if a formula could be worked out, it would be cumbersome and time consuming. Especially since objects are continuously moved around and scaled as a design progresses.
  14. There are a few things I am trying to understand with 3DC, and I am hoping for some quick answers that can get me going without too much searching. The trouble I have been having is with absolute numbers (mm) at preferred resolutions. I want to import an obj or stl file at .05mm (voxel) resolution and I want to know its physical size (in metric) before I commit (voxelise) the mesh. I have spend considerable time looking for a panel that gives the physical size of meshes, either before importing or after, but have not been thus far successful. True object size is very important to me since my interest is related to 3d printing. I want to import, move, scale, calculate stl reductions, and export my models in real world units. Percentages are usually not of great use to me. Do I have this option in 3DC?
  15. Thank you. I was hoping there was a tool were just by touching the surface it would give a thickness reading. But this is fine.
  16. Hi, I am a newcomer to 3D-Coat, though not to 3D. There are a few questions I have, so I will start with the first one: Is there a tool in 3DC that measures wall thickness?
