  1. Congrats AJ! Your moment of doubt is probably written in the job description of at least a few Pixar staff. And well done to everyone. Fairy tales / medieval clothing sounds good. I'm still putzing away on the lion, looking forward to seeing this if you go ahead.
  2. All great, and each so original... more than one way to get a good result. Good challenge.
  3. The look and texture are great, and if that's how it looks from most angles, I'm impressed. It does seem like a steep workload to get there.
  4. Seriously impressive. And serious work too, especially for thick fur.
  5. Looking good, AJZ3D. Lion coming along... change of pose, breaking up the figure and remodeling legs/paws.
  6. Thanks for the welcome. Working on a more dynamic pose.
  7. Great work in this challenge, looking forward to the results. I've been slowly putting a project together which also happens to be hairy. This isn't necessarily challenge material, it won't be done by the deadline and is more brush-oriented than surface...
  8. Hi, can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm importing an object into the Paint room, approximately 58 Mb. Color and Gloss brushes work, but Depth doesn't. I've tried changing the alphas, the brush options, layer blending on new layers... no Depth. Trying out both 3DC DirectX and OpenGL 64bit, on Windows 8.1, NVidia GeForce GTX 970. Any suggestions welcome.
  9. Great work in this thread! I'm getting more comfortable with 3DCoat and am in the middle of a traditional favorite subject. Not the most dynamic pose, more a study of anatomy and getting to know the brushes. Current favorite is Rapid2.
  10. Thanks... the tail was (is) the main problem. not sure how to to model something that's all fluff and translucent. Yes, a few years worth of art-related (pen/pencil) and a lot of time in Photoshop. 3D has long been an interest but only recently decided to make time for it.
  11. Nice work - and good rendering of the ugliness.
  12. Great work in this thread. The abstracts look like fun... the griffin is an excellent design, hope you'll post pics when the prototype is ready.
  13. Thanks. False modesty aside, compliments are certainly welcome, and if that sounds like fishing, well, so be it. More seriously, I do hope to have something worth crowing about in future.
  14. First serious project in 3DC. This is the result of downloading Blendr, throwing my hands up in frustration, researching other applications and taking a recommendation of 3DC from an older forum. The cost of 3DC was certainly motivating, however it was the striking similarity of UI functionality to Photoshop that was a huge relief for me. Sculpting as a novice was so intuitive, it's been a blast going from voxel symmetry to surface posing and being able to concentrate on proportions and positioning of paws and such. This could still go a long way towards further realism, however it's served it's purpose as I went through importing as an obj, painted the high poly and exported into Marmoset. Please excuse the heavily photoshopped finish. At some 9 million triangles the critter was becoming increasingly sluggish in the Paint room, and there were numerous flaws with texturing. I've decimated down to 3 million and may continue or start another project that's been waiting. Any feedback, thoughts welcome... again, please don't critique this as anything more than an initial test piece. It doesn't begin to compare with some of the incredible work I've seen in the gallery.
