v4.5 - Can't paint depth?

I'm just getting started today, and my only mission is to edit NORMAL MAP, DISPLACEMENT MAP, and OPACITY MAP. I'm not getting the results I expect. Is there a tutorial that focuses on painting, layers, and settings for these functions? Thank you!

Is there any way to return the sculpt tools to default?

Thank you. I was about to lose my mind. Somehow I switched to stamp mode. I had no idea how I did, and I had no idea how to get out of it. Unchecked the remember brush alpha and restarted.
