  1. That's actually a new feature, it's listed in the notes. it selects all the edges bordering the cut It used to select random faces accross the mesh instead. Edit : it was introduced in 4.8.44 20.07.2019 4.8.44 - Deleting selected faces in retopo room leads to boundary edges selection.
  2. Well, the light baking tool isn't good enough for what it's intended for, imho. It doesn't bake reflections. You need Substance painter for that. That's the only thing I use Substance for, actually. i.e. Light baking with environement. However, used the way I described, it is perfect, as a base for hand painting. It brings out the sculpted details and gives shadows so that you can see the actual shapes while being in flat shading mode.
  3. Fact is it worked fine until 4.8.42 Since sculpt layers, I always paint the high poly. It saves a lot of trouble. You don't have to worry about seams, and most of all, if you make a mistake on the retopo mesh or uv, but discover it much later while painting the low poly, it is always a hassle to repair without losing the painting. It often means starting over, unless you are happy with a dirty repair in the tweak room. Anyway, here is a use case : You want to hand paint your object. My method is this : Bake light on the high poly. maybe also bake occlusion with sphere+hemisphere. Create a fill layer with a solid colour on a layer at the bottom of the stack. Switch to flat shading Paint on a layer on top of the stack with the help of the light baking information.
  4. having a 7 million tris sculpt on a vox layer in voxel mode and calling the light baking tool from the paint room makes me crash on 4.9.01SL both DX and GL Turning the mesh to surface mode before calling the light baking tool prevents the crash.
  5. Yes it does that if you don't use pressure, even at 0. You need to use a Wacom or similar, and you need to set stroke mode to "depth and opacity"

  7. At the time when it happened to me a lot, I came to be convinced that it happened when I closed 3d-Coat after saving, and not waiting long enough. However, that was a long time ago, and now I think we have been told that 3dc continues saving in the background even when we close it, so, I don't know anymore. I had this problem a lot at one point, and there is a reason why I did not point it out, or if I did, I forgot. (but I remember giving the solution to restore the voxels to some people, I don't know where, probably on the facebook group). It's a strange reason, probably. To me voxels have always had a magical quality to them. Strange and unexpected things happen with them. AND I LOVE THAT :) So... I did not want to draw attention to any problem with voxels, for fear that it would be fixed and lose its magic. Here is one such odd behaviour. In the video I dig into the cube with CTRL+ grow tool.   8. I *think* that if you don't notice the missing geometry when you open the file, then continue working as if nothing had happened (because you don't know it has), and then you save your file again... and close 3d-Coat.... Then, I *think* that your geometry is lost forever.
  9. Yes I have seen this many times over the years. In my case it only happens with voxels. Strangely I have not been bothered with it for quite some time, but I know it still happens. Nowadays I usually end in surface mode, that is why it has not bothered me so much I think. However, I sometimes notice that my voxel backup is gone. In the case that the vanished voxel layer is the only copy of your sculpt, I know I had a workaround that would restore the geometry. I don't know if it would still work, I don't have a case to test with at the moment, but you could try. You need to know where the geometry was in your scene. You need to place an object in relatively the same space on another layer. turn off auto pick select the vox layer that has the deleted geometry select the fill tool, and set depth to zero (so that it does nothing in normal circumstances). Finally start brushing the area of the lost voxels, using the second object as a base to start your brush strokes. The lost voxels should now reappear under the brush. You need to brush the whole outer surface of your object to make it reappear completely.
  10. 4.8.44SL (GL) Seems to work fine... BUT..... the Reproject tool is still missing !!! Also I am not sure but I think the sphere tool is acting weird : when you start drawing, it seems to get lost and does not know where to start the stroke.
  11. Is the fact that active strip gets deselected when you use colour picker (V) a known bug ? Does it only happen to me ? Is it going to get fixed some day ?
  12. Oh, Thank you so much animk. Since 2015 I have only ever used GL, it's always worked fine, so it's just become automatic for me to go for GL version. Sometimes I try DX when there is a problem, but up until today it never helped. So yes, 4.8.42SL DX works fine for me too, with a mesh in the retopo room and with my old files. I had to rename the exe to GL for it not to mess with my 3d mouse though. So I guess this is the start of my days with the DX version. I have never understood the difference. But I still I hope GL version of future builds works again for both of us...
  13. I'm installing alongside old version, not overwriting Will check graphic drivers but I think geforce experience takes care of that ? No other machine to test with I'm afraid.
  14. It is a bit different here I think, I would have had to do it not only once per install, but once each time I launch a different build. (i.e. switching back and forth between 4.8.38 and 4.8.42) Anyway, still crashing at performing autopo in a new scene in 4.8.42
  15. Oh wow, yes ! Now I can switch between the two and it is an acceptable workaround. Thank you. The problem remains that 4.8-39 to 4.8.42 won't work with my old .3b files, it crashes when I enter the retopo room if there is a mesh in it, or if I try to import a mesh via the sculpt room or via import. It only works with new scenes created after 4.8.38
  16. Up until today I could not use a version more recent than 4.8.38 because 3dc would crash if I loaded anything in the retopo room. After seeing wilson66's message, I tried creating a new scene in 4.8.42SL and retopo room works now without crashing. Does this mean I must abandon all my previous work if I want to work with the latest versions ? Is there a way to convert an old scene ? --- EDIT : I can't even switch between the two versions because it confuses my 3d mouse driver It loses all settings for 3d-Coat when switching from one build to the other.
  17. You can "edit projections in external editor" from the edit menu. Set photoshop as your external 2d editor in preferences.
  18. This is offtopic, I just thought I'd dump this in here, I hope nobody minds. Ideas for improvement : -Make The symmetry information visible at all time in the symmetry panel if it is open. At present, when you open a saved file, the panel is blank until you go to Symmetry menu > Symmetry -Add a Search filter for Smart materials in paint room -In retopo room, make the "invert" button under Selected visible when the select tool is active. At present, it is only visible when Mark Seams or Edge Loops tool is active.
  19. The shaders category remains empty, are there plans to add some ? It would be cool to find different types of shaders there, for example one with several sides, like the old supershader.
  20. C'est mieux si vous essayez vraiment de faire quelque chose de précis et que vous posiez des questions quand vous êtes coincé. Avec des screenshots pour montrer le problème que vous rencontrez. Peut-être que la raison pour laquelle il n'existe pas de tutoriels basiques, c'est que la prise en main est relativement facile, parce que l'UI est classique et relativement Logique. Par exemple vous voulez accomplir une tache, demandez vous quel genre d'outil il vous faut, où devrait il se trouver s'il existe ? Ensuite, cherchez simplement là où vous pensez qu'il devrait se trouver. Vous passez le pointeur de la souris sur les différents éléments, et vous attendez que le tooltip s'affiche. Continuez jusqu'à ce que vous trouviez ce qui devrait faire l'affaire. Il existe souvent de nombreuses façons d'arriver au résultat que vous cherchez. En dehors de ce forum, si vous parlez anglais, il existe un serveur Discord avec des utilisateurs prêts à vous aider à résoudre des problèmes et répondre à vos interrogations.
  21. I'm sorry I just can't use 4.8.39 there is the retopo room that makes me crash, and the Space navigator that resets to default every time I start 3dc
  22. I had to reinstall 4.8.38 in addition to 4.8.39 because the latter doesn't let me work on saved projects. what kind of problems can it cause to have both ?
