4.8.18 - Gradient fill doesn't snap to mesh anymore?

Hey, I installed 3DCoat on my new PC, so I have version 4.8.18. Usually, when you pick point 1 and point 2 within the gradient fill tool, if you click on your mesh, the point snaps to your mesh. However, I am clicking my mesh but the point is actually being set off in the distance. Is this a bug? Perspective when I set points Actual position of points when I move camera

Thanks I'll take a look. Thanks, didn't know you could import ABR files. I've played with the 3DC brush options before, I was just curious if there was any info on how I could set up 3DC's brush options to replicate what a brush is like in PS.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone had any tips for how to recreate PS brushes in 3DCoat. I have retrieved the alpha textures from the .abr file, but my issue is how to recreate the settings the brushes have in PS. For example, can I recreate dual brush? Transfer? Thanks Sarah

Hey, I've noticed that when 3DCoat has autosaved your work, it's displayed as saved (no astericks) but you haven't actually written over your main file. Multiple times now I have closed 3DCoat with no unsaved work prompt then opened my file later only to discover I've lost half my progress. I can't always get back autosaves if I've worked on enough other things to overwrite the autosaves.

UPDATE: So I'm not sure how but I seem to have fixed it? I literally haven't done anything logical that would fix it. I closed and opened 3DCoat a few times, tried making a new file with the same FBX, re-exported the FBX, used an OBJ, none of these things worked. I then opened the original FBX into the UV room instead of the paint room and it imported fine, no frozen areas or strange UVs. Then I decided to open the original broken file and it opened completely fine exactly the way I left it when I saved. So I have no idea what broke or how I fixed it.

I used 3DCoat's function to use the materials as different UVsets, 8 in total (it's called "Treat materials as different textures" for reference). But the mesh doesn't actually have 8 UVsets, only 1. I'm assuming it's lost the knowledge that each material is a UVset. It's also worth noting I just created a new 3DCoat file with the same mesh and now when I open it parts of the mesh are frozen and I can't unfreeze them? Odd that I didn't get this issue the first time around.

Hi, I'm working on an object that has 8 different UV maps and I imported the object with "use materials as seperate UVs". It was all fine (and it's also worked fine in the past) but I closed and opened my project and now parts aren't reading the correct UV maps. It's wiped data from layers. When I re-import a texture onto one of the UV channels I seem to be able to see it when I rotate the model at a certain angle which is strange. It's reading the wrong UV when I opened it: I rotate the camera and get some weird UVs:

No I don't run it through Steam. First, I tried just installing the new version. The second time, I made sure to uninstall 3DCoat, then install the new version. Neither process installed 4.5.37 (http://3dcoat.com/download/). I'm guessing 4.5.37 is the most recent stable version seeing as it's the one there.

I reset my shortcut key to 'N' instead and it doesn't seem to work for me using the shortcut. -
Hey, I've noticed the sampler tool only takes the colour value to my brush. I was under the impression this tool worked like the eyedropper tool in Photoshop and I expected it to pick out my roughness and metallic values as well as colour. Is there a setting to change this? Thanks Sarah

Baking Normal Maps - High to Low with external models

Hey guys, I was wondering how to bake normal maps in 3D Coat using an imported high poly mesh and imported low poly mesh? I have searched for how to do this and watched videos but none seem to explain how to do this. Thanks Sarah

Yeah I guess I'll try this out and see if it gives me less fiddly issues. By drawing lines I mean I tend to flick past the texture window when drawing straight lines especially, so when it hits all the tabs above or below it, it can be super annoying. Thanks for the help. I think 3DC had a total breakdown earlier too (with the roughness not working) as after I did that reboot, all my settings have gone back to default (noticeably my hotkeys and background). So not sure what went wrong there! Thanks again. -

I am not trying to select another tab etc, I'm trying to paint but if my mouse leaves the window (this naturally happens if you're doing lines) it'll flick about and do this. I don't understand why once I click on the texture editor or my model, I can still touch other features like tabs and options. I would expect my "click area" to be bound to the texture editor or my model. The issue is I don't want to be able to interact with all the tabs and options if I clicked on my texture editor originally. Yes, I am getting lag here and there, but I think this is related to my laptop and not the software. I have noticed a change in the performance since I restarted and only ran 3DCoat. -

It is being all sorts of crazy! Just opened it again to do this for you and it had changed my background gradient! >.< After restarting my laptop, roughness seems to be working again (and this is when it changed my background). Here is a video of the first issue I explained. I am holding the brush down throughout the video when I'm moving it from the texture editor to the other windows etc: https://vid.me/WX0d As mentioned, I only noticed this issue previously when I tried Maya camera mode. -

Hey, I'm having this issue where when I'm painting if I drag out over another window (like the brushes tab, or any other tab in the same window) it'll interact with it. I never used to have this issue unless I used the Maya camera mode, which I'm not using (I'm using default 3DCoat camera settings). I'm also getting lag and slow responses that I haven't had since I bought the software. EDIT: I have a new very weird problem - I can no longer paint roughness? It literally just stopped letting me paint any roughness info! I tried restarting the program and I tried on a different, new project, same issue. Thanks Sarah -
Ahh sweet thank you. I tried doing this but was obviously dropping the layer too high up! Hopefully this fiddly feature will be ironed out in the future. Also would be nice to be renamed as 'Group' instead of 'ADD_LAYERS_FOLDER'.

Hi, As the title says - can I group layers like in Photoshop (in the paint room)? I tried to make a 'folder' but you can't seem to drag layers into it? Thanks Sarah
