  1. Thank you for the help. I think the problem was with the download. When I downloaded the materials I was doing a render (On my Dell, the computer I currently use with 3D Coat), so I was browsing the Pilgway PBR material library on my MacBook where I downloaded the materials to... when the render was finished, I transferred the materials over to the Dell... I've never had a problem with this sort of thing before, but apparently something messed up and those particular .3dcpack materials don't work... I re-downloaded the materials (and a couple of others) straight to the Dell and they all installed properly. All the new installed materials seem to be working as smart materials now. I probably should have thought of this before making a post asking about the problem, but that's never happened before (not in 20+ years that I remember anyway)... so it didn't occur to me that there might be a problem with downloading it from a Mac and transferring it to a PC... Thank you to everyone for the help and sorry if I wasted anyone's time.
  2. They were from the Pilgway PBR Material Library... https://materials.3dcoat.com/scans The materials were: MTL00045_Metal4k_4k_2k MTL00094_Paint4k_4k_2k MTL00903_Metal_8k_4k MTL00906_Metal4k_4k_2k MTL00907_Metal4k_4k_2k MTL01493_Metal_8k_4k MTL01511_Metal_8k_4k MTL01683_Metal_8k_2k MTL01556_Paint_8k_4k MTL01552_Paint_4k_2k MTL01554_Paint_4k_4k MTL01555_Paint_8k_4k
  3. Thank you both for the replies, I'll give 4.9.72 a try and see how that goes.
  4. Does anyone know if those newer versions (4.9.65 to 4.9.72) work with Windows 7?
  5. I'm currently using 3D Coat version 4.5.19(DX 64) and I recently downloaded a bunch of the free smart materials from Pilgway's smart materials library and went to install them the standard way (File > Install Extension) and restarted 3D Coat, but I don't see them installed anywhere... Are these materials not compatible with this older version or is there something malfunctioning here? I'm assuming that if the material I'm installing is a "paint" or a "metal", it should show up in those folders/categories or in the very least "default"... Correct? Also... The reason I'm using 4.5 on this computer is that it's running Windows 7, which I need for some older software which I use frequently, but that software will only run on Windows 7... So until I buy another more powerful computer that runs Windows 11 or at least 10, I'm stuck using 4.5.19 on this particular computer... (I have a Windows 11 laptop, but apparently it's not powerful enough for 3D Coat). Anyway, thank you in advance for any help or information on this problem.
  6. Hello and thank you in advance for any information you can give on this topic... I purchased 3D Coat version 4.5.19 back in 2016(?) and since then I occasionally use it to 3D paint models I make outside of 3DC... I probably don't use 3DC as much as I should, but anyway, from what I understand I can use my licensed version on two computers for that OS platform (like in my case Windows)... I never installed a second copy on my older laptop because it was a MacBook, but I recently got a Windows laptop and would like to install a copy on it... I assumed when I go to my account page, the one where I could see my license information, there would hopefully be a link to that version of 3D Coat so I could download it again... When I go to that page there is only an "Upgrade" link button on the left, and a "Download Product" link (which I thought would lead to my particular version of 3DC)... But on that linked page there are four download links for versions 4.9.65 to 4.9.72... which are well outside the 12 month upgrade range (the newer versions of Version 4 appear to be from 2020-2021).. My question is: Is that version (4.5.19) no longer available and I'm out of luck to install that second copy onto my laptop or did Pilgway generously decide that those newer versions are the oldest versions they'll make available to Version 4 customers... or am I just looking in the wrong place for the appropriate version? I'm totally happy to use the newer versions, but I don't want to create a license problem/confusion or try and use something I don't have a right to use... If anyone can give me an answer on this topic, I'd be very happy. Thanks in advance for any answers.
  7. I tried experimenting and looking this up, but maybe I phrased it poorly... it also got frustrating after a while... Heres the question: Sculptris has a 3D paint option which is kinda useful sometimes... it allows you to symmetrically paint the opposite half of your mesh simultaneously. It's very good for creating symmetrical patterns, like for example one might find on a butterfly's wings, or a bird's plumage... I'd paint that particular mesh in Sculptris, but I want it 4k and that's not possible in Sculptris. Does anything like that option/feature exist in 3DC? Sorry if this is a stupid question, and thanks in advance for any help and info.
  8. One of my bookmarks is (was) New Users... Now when I click it, I get "3D Printing". It looks like New Users is gone... So I'm guessing my dumb questions should be posted here (3D Coat forum) now? Sorry if this was addressed elsewhere, I can't find any mention of it, so I asked.
  9. Atlantis was a very nice place... I had lunch there once, but I couldn't afford to stay overnight though... Too much money for even the smallest room... but the water slides were amazing! I made friends with a dolphin there named EeeeEeekKaClikkeeeeEeeeAaaAhaaaaEeeeeeeeEeeeEeee... I may have misspelled that...or shortened it... it's really hard to tell with dolphin, it's a very complicated language and different pods spell stuff differently... Truthfully I think their education system is a little lax in that department, but they make up for it in math and Phys Ed compared to humans... Back in high school we were lucky if one kid out of 12 could catch a sardine or a herring with their teeth... Granted, dolphins suck at football and can't ride a bike to save their life.... Anyway, I think the humans there called him Alvin or Bob or something boring like that... Nobody ever asked him what his real name was, which was rather disappointing to him... Translated it was fairly interesting, something like "Leaps with jellyfish on nose, catches many fish and shares them with female dolphins with loose morals and large dorsal fins but can't catch frisbee"... I think that's only half of it... Dolphins can't shorten anything they say or name... Very awkward in an emergency. You can't rightly shout "Hey crooked teeth who fornicates with manatees and eats flounders in a messy manner and always pees upcurrent, look out for that speed boat!!!" And expect to get much further than fornicates with manatees before- BAM!- Dolphin chowder! Well, anyway- Cheers and Beers dude, catch you later.
  10. I too like having peeps in a circle... Usually I just eat them straight out of the box and arranging them into complex shapes is too much effort. Don't say being a SketchUp master is silly... Unless you are wearing a pink tutu and one of those cartoon fruit hats while riding a purple pony, singing Norse drinking songs and tossing glitter in the air while declaring all that... That's rather silly... Perhaps not at a Norse drinking festival, which can get pretty damn strange, but in the cereal aisle at the supermarket, it definitely is. Never feel silly about whatever tools you use to create your art or design stuff... Trust me, I'm wearing a pantomime gorilla costume as I write this, so I know silly. I use SketchUp too and I'd have to say about 88.6143% of the stuff I've made and deigned has been created using SketchUp... The rest was made out of used toothpicks and old watermelons... Mostly... I think I made a rocket skateboard out a flattened possum once, but he caught on fire and the wheels really didn't stay on for very long... You live, you learn. The 90s are very blurry now. So you are a sculptor and a musician... I sculpt too...I mostly sculpt silly things out of polymer clays... The last thing I made was a cartoony flesh eating bacteria for a friend of mine who survived getting a flesh eating bacterial infection in his hand. I'm not much of a musician, unless you count the squirrelulele as a musical instrument... It's sort of a ukulele made out of a petrified squirrel... I'm okay with that, but it has terrible sound quality. I'm a much better sculptor... I used to work in industrial design as a Model Maker, back when that meant fabricating designs and prototypes out of actual materials by hand and not printing it out in grainy plastic... I used to do a lot of aerospace, military, medical and toy prototypes... Those were interesting times. You say you are into Egyptian philosophy... Sorry, but I don't know much beyond the ones about don't suck on dung beetles and never loan money to a mummy... And both of those are more or less just common sense. I see you know of Imhotep... He was a rockin dude... Back when I was an Ancient Greek, we used to call him Imuthes and his works were known far and wide, so I can understand your respect and admiration of him... Though I hear he had really bad breath, but that could been because he was already a mummy at that point... Still, his contributions to stone pyramid building, hot rod chariot racing and medicine are not to be outdone. I'd offerer to chat and join you on Facebook, but I'm really quite antisocial and rather insane... That and I don't have a Facebook account... I'm trying to see how long I can go without one before I murder someone for insisting I get one... So far I've only assaulted two squirrels and a possum, so I'll probably make it quite a bit longer... Besides, I'm terribly irresponsible and horrible at timely correspondence. Although I do enjoy randomly responding to interesting forum posts all across the Internet. Anyway, good luck with 3DC, your art, your music and mummy making... No, wait... It was philosophy, not mummification... Well, either way good luck and enjoy 3DC.
  11. Yes, that is helpful, but that's actually the place where I got the image of the gizmo that I added the notes to... That was actually the most useful info I found, and that does not mention what the gizmo's controls actually control, as it just says you can use the gizmo to scale, rotate and move textures/stencils, but not how... But it's not a big deal, I guess what I labeled up there seems to be correct, I was testing out the painting feature today and that seems to be more or less correct... I guess what was confusing me is that when scaling a texture you have to drag and maintain a straight direction or the scaling goes up and down... Maybe the feature is intended for a tablet or people who know how to move a mouse straight after having a few beers? You probably are not supposed to drink and texture... I guess there is no sort of input method for more precise scaling? Too bad, that would be a great help, but maybe not to most people... Oh well. Thanks carlosan!
  12. Hello, I was wondering if someone can clear this up for me... I was tinkering with making my own materials and couldn't find anything that definitively explained what the various symbols in the brush components widget (if that's the correct name) meant... I believe I figured them out, but I'm not 100% sure if the yellow triangles are moving the texture around on the surface/map/model or if they are just moving the widget... I tried with a couple of textures, but it's kinda hard to tell. I made a key (see below) for myself, and I was just wondering if this is correct or if I'm missing the point. Also, one other question... When I'm scaling a texture, I can see the light blue/cyan numeric data being displayed as I'm adjusting it, but I'm wondering if there is a way of inputting the numbers, as opposed to dragging back and forth until I get more or less close enough. Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I couldn't find the info I was looking for, I Googled a bunch of variations of the question (I'm not even sure what the widget is called), but none explained this and I actually only found the widget by accident. Anyway, thank you in advance for your input and suggestions.
