  1. Thanks for fixing the smart materials/assigned to layers in 4.9.10. One thing i`m noticing though is that the material pop-up when using a pen is very sensitive , could it be adjust to be more forgiving if you move the mouse pointer. Also, if you can add a search function to smart materials/stencils etc that would be a massive help to increasing workflow. Thanks
  2. 4.9.09 dx/gl PPP - Paint layers cant attach smart material to a layer,smart material icon doesnt appear in paint layer in layers panel next to layer, re-attach smart material crashes 3d coat. Painting on object with layer selected also crashes 3d coat.
  3. Something i just came across (its in older versions aswell) drag in a .hdr file and it just comes up with this "Ca" (see below). I assume its cancel. Would be nice to just detect its a hdr and add to the environment textures automatically.
  4. Best thing is to just get on and play with it. spend a few hours experimenting, that's what I did and then I went and watched those video clips to understand further. sculpt layers arnt rocket science. sculpt some details whilst on a layer and the. adjust depth and opacity on the layer.
  5. Sculpt layers tutorials here. part 1 & 2. You need to turn them on in the preferences as they are still beta. Very cool feature...
  6. i work with designers who have commented it whilst i`ve been showing them something, so now it bugs me as well . it does look a bit unpolished when that pops up. But yes there are bigger fish to fry. Like a search feature for materials,objects,etc ;-)
  7. Whilst on the subject of icons, its my pet peeve that whenever you enter some text you get this ugly old school windows text entry pop up. Really ruins the design of the interface imho
  8. Load/Save windows dialog appears behind main screen bug in 4.9.06A windows 64bit GL . Select full screen (alt + enter ) Load/Save a curve, object,material, etc and load or save windows dialog appears behind the 3d coat main screen. you need to alt+tab to make it appear.
  9. I just created a backup folder, and copied them all into there and re-ran 3d coat. Try all of them first,if it fixes it you could always copy them back out of the backup folder until the culprit is found.
  10. Hey All, I have Maya 2019 setup with 3d coat v49 applink. I`m having issues sending and receiving objects. Firstly if i send a an object via PPP from the Maya coat shelf, it asks to open the object inside the 3d coat already running, but it is also loading a new 3d coat in the background, so i end up with two 3d coats running. It loads the object into the original 3d coat fine, then I can send it back to the original app. If I try sending it back to 3d coat it opens another 3d coat. Anyone know whats going on? Thanks Paul
  11. I had this problem, i deleted all the options .xml from the 3dcoat49 folder in documents. Then ran 3d coat and it was fine. However i`ve just reinstalled on another pc the 4.9.06A version and that was fine from installation.
  12. Hi All, Any ideas of a quick way that something like this frame could be achieved in 3d coat. I tried using a heightmap converted by knald to give me some details to start with and extruded out the details, and it sort of works but wondering if there are any cool tools that 3d coat has that could be used?

  15. Hi All, I`ve used 3d coat for a few years on my desktop pc (i7 3.2ghz, nvidia gtx 970, 32gb ram) and looking to upgrade my hardware as at times things can get slow. Any suggestions of what could help speed up calculations and general use... ie mulitple 4096+ textures on layers, baking (curvature, ao,etc) ,etc. Would a dual cpu mainboard help, and also any of the new nvidia RTX cards have any influence over speed? (some renderers now use them for calculations). Thanks in advance Paul
  16. ok thanks what I found was use the SL version of 3d coat. Then I could use the same colour and displacement/normal maps.
  17. Not sure if this is the right place to post a feature request. But i`ve use 3d coat over the years as well as substance painter. And one thing that has always bugged me (excuse pun!) is there isnt a search feature for materials and the like. I have probably 300+ smart materials. There isnt a way to list them, only thumbnail views. You have to hover your mouse, wait a second and then the name appears. Try that when you have 20+ folders of materials each container 30+ materials. Its painful. Surely its time to have a search feature so you could just type eg. con ... and concretes would appear. Same goes for alpha brushes. This is such a useful feature in substance painter. *Please* add a search feature.
  18. Anyone have this issue thanks? What i`m trying to achieve is bring in a colour brick texture that also has a heightmap. I`d like to add colour and also displace the geometry. The only way i can see to do it is to create a smart material with the brick colour , and an alpha stencil for the heightmap. But they dont align when you switch from paint to sculpt / smart material to stencil.
  19. Hi, Latest beta 4.8.42 and has this issue. But if i just go from sculpt to paint its fine. But if i move the camera, then load in the camera settings and stencil distortion setting its not lined up correctly. Also, Any idea about the colour , it has to be done with a smart mateial? thank you
  20. Hi All So just trying to recreate a brick wall using stencils of height and also colour. I was trying to use a height map stencil in sculpt to create the brick geometry and then wanting to go into the paint editor and apply the colour texture on the same position/scale/etc. I tried saving the camera and also save stencil distortion. But when moving editors it also moves the position of the stencil, shifted to the side. Is this a bug? and is there another way of doing this type of work in 3d coat? Thanks
  21. Hey all, I have a 3d scan of a person that has a mangled arm/hand on one side. I`m trying to put it into sculpt and mirror one arm over to the other side. Whats the cleanest method of doing this? Tried cut off the bad arm, then clone good , selecting the arm and then transform . Also blending with the existing arm is proving problematic. Any ideas? Thanks
  22. Hi All So I have quite a complicated scene with about 20-30 paint layers . Is there any way of displaying which layer has what on it. For example in photoshop you can ctrl + right click and it will display the layers that have pixel data under the mouse pointer. I`m finding in 3d coat that if I accidently paint on one layer its a case of going through each layer and hiding them in order to find the unwanted painted pixels. Any ideas how this can be achieved? Thanks alot
  23. Thanks that`s helpful, would be nice to do a sweep of the visible icon like you can in photoshop rather than clicking each one individually.
