  1. Wow! All these responses whilst I slept........ Thank you for all of the replies. I think I may already have watched some of the videos by Alien Minefield (I definitely remember his first one because he forgot what he was talking about at one stage and dropped the F-bomb under his breathe) - I'll make it a point to watch his "Welcome to 3D Coat" playlist.... The "Curves in 3D Coat" by Jaakko is one I hadn't found before - very interesting and I like his presentation style; very easy-going - a pity he hasn't made a comprehensive playlist; but then, it looks like he's "filling in the gaps" of available tutorials (and, of course, presenting stuff relevant to himself or subscriber requests). Looks like I have a few tutorials to watch. Thanks again.
  2. Only problem was when I actually tried it, I realised that I didn't even know how to deal with a spline [blush] - I get a red (I think) sphere and when I click, a green sphere - and then all hell breaks loose when I move my mouse (Yeah, I really have NO idea what I am doing...). Hell, I can't even work out how to delete a shape or comprehend why the spline shape looks nothing like the thumbnail (it's so lo-res, I can barely recognize the shape). I really need to find even more basic tutorials; most assume you're using "a dedicated 3D application" - that's one of the things I thought 3DC was supposed to do.... My little brain is so confused....
  3. OK, just in case anyone else finds this thread, looking for answers/help. If you look carefully at the screencap I included in the first post (unlike me), you'll notice the 'primitive' is taken from the Splines tab. Upon discovering that, I did another search for the 'primitive' and found it (and similar shapes) in the _TinkerSplines section of the Splines tab. BTW, the only reason I used apostrophes ('primitives') around the word "primitive" was, although all (?) meshes can be used as primitives, the one in question came from the Spline tab. In other word; no big deal.........
  4. Thanks for replying, Carlosan; at least I now know that I was right in thinking that I didn't have these shapes. It's the one thing lacking in most of the tutorial series produced by 3D Coat on their You Tube channel; lack of the exercise files - ya gotta be able to follow along and without the resources used in the tutorial/tutorial series, it's very difficult (especially when you don't have any other 3D application...). Now, I would love to contact the tutor to ask for the resources but it's by 3D Coat, so who do I contact? Sorry if this is a silly question, but, although I have found some general extra resources on 3D Coat's website, there aren't any resources listed for their tutorials. To be honest, I think 3DC would get more users if they provided the resources as a matter of course as 3DC is affordable, even for the hobbyist (who would generally be the customer base most in need of "that extra little bit of assistance".).
  5. Hi, I am just starting to use 3D Coat and am using 3DC's You Tube channel to access relevant tutorials. I first tried the "Introduction to 3D Coat" playlist but very soon into the series, the tutor started to use models I didn't have access to (I learn best when I can follow along, which I can't do if the models used in the videos aren't accessible). I even purchased a few tutorial sets but most of them put me to sleep very quickly ("this tool does this, and this one does that, err, umm, then this tool can also do...." ZZZZZZ). I know it sounds a bit ridiculous that I can't learn from other tutorials because they put me to sleep but it's a rather unwanted side-effect of the medications I'm on for a degenerative nerve-muscle disorder; so it's a bit beyond my own control............. I finally thought I'd have a go at the 3DC playlist, "Creating a Creature in 3D Coat" as I loved the banshee in Avatar so I knew it would definitely keep me awake and listening. However, in the second video, the tutor already accesses a primitive I cannot find in my primitives palette (despite my 3DC version being the newest version, as compared with 4.0 Beta). I have looked through all of the Model sections (default, body+parts, cloth, geometry, etc) as well as the primitives list along the top of the UI - no luck. Is there any other, perhaps unloaded, set of primitives/models I am unaware of? Or are these models that the tutor has added himself? ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
  6. It appears that there is a new link there today and it works! http://3d-coat.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=18835
  7. This may be an old thread, but it's the only place where I found an actual answer to how to remove the background image! How to change it is easy, but as there was no "none" option, just removing it was a "closely guarded secret"............ Thanks, Denis
  8. I'm having the same issue (day one of using 3DC)............
  9. Hi, I'm hoping someone in the know may notice this rather late entry into this thread. The tutorial series mentioned looks great BUT the image planes are no longer available at the link provided. Does anyone know how I can get these images? Without them, the tutorial is beyond me from the get go.............. Help please.........
