  1. Can we please get support for the Microsoft Surface Dial? I find that using the Surface Dial for changing the brush size in 3DCoat is so smooth and allows me to easily change the brush size without touching the keyboard. The issue lies when you press and hold the Surface Dial down to bring up the tools menu, then all hell breaks loose where the Surface Dial stops working in 3DCoat. It seems like there's some official Microsoft documentation here for adding support for the Surface Dial here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/design/input/radialcontroller-walkthrough I've also wasted so much time and money looking for alternatives that has a similar look to the Surface Dial and none exists. The Surface Dial is truly an underrated tool for 2D/3D artists and it's a shame that there aren't enough software applications that support it.
  2. I want to upgrade to 2023 from the 2022 version. When I click on the Upgrade button, a popup box comes up and both check boxes are grayed out. Also, there's a red text that reads "Upgrade for the license is already in the cart", even though the shopping cart is empty. Seems like this is an issue every time I want to purchase an upgrade (year over year).
  3. I agree with NLPLP above. To be honest, it wasn't the messy interface of ZBrush that drove me to 3DCoat, but the new subscription model that ultimately made me quit ZBrush for good and 100% switch over to 3DCoat. Everyone is told that ZBrush is the industry standard, but as a hobbyist, 3DCoat is adequate enough for me and the interface of 3DCoat is a whole lot cleaner. The voxel sculpting system is just pure genius, allowing users to focus purely on the sculpting and not worrying about stretched polygons (unless you're using surface mode). 3DCoat is far from a complete package, which is why I have to disagree and say that I do have to switch back and forth between Blender and 3DCoat. On a side note, I have to say that I used to subscribe to Autodesk for Maya, but that is no longer the case, as both Blender and 3DCoat fills that gap. Again, I'm a hobbyist and makes no sense paying hundreds of dollars for some piece of software that I'm only using maybe once or twice a month. At the moment, I own 2 copies/licenses for 3DCoat. One for use on my main desktop computer and the other for use on my Microsoft Surface Book 3. I also want to mention I do have both a Wacom Cintiq Pro 32 and a Huion Kamvas Pro 24 (4k). Between the two, I love the Huion better and the OLED display on the Huion really makes the colors pop. Then if you pair this with a StreamDeck for shortcut buttons, you basically have the ultimate experience. For those with a StreamDeck, I did make a few icons, which you can download in the attachment here. Although it did take me several hours to put this all together, I don't want to take credit for it, as all I did was copied the same icons from the 3DCoat user interface. Maybe someone can take this over and add more icons (or make it even better)? stream_deck_icons.zip
  4. It's very rare that I ever provide a review, but I'll say that I was probably one of the first few people who bought this tutorial on Udemy. I do have a high interest in wanting to learn 3DCoat (as 3DCoat allows me to focus purely on the sculpting process, rather than having to deal with stretched polygons, etc...) and bought this course based on the title of the course "Complete Guide to 3D Coat". The positive thing I have to mention that the tutorial is using the latest version of 3DCoat, making it relevant for those who are just starting to learn. Everywhere else, they're using an outdated version of 3DCoat. The negative thing I have to mention, is that just like any other tutorials out there that exist on Udemy (which are few), the tutorial doesn't go through how to use each (or at least 85% of the tools) that are available in the 3D sculpting software, but instead promise to show you how to sculpt something, which in this case is a crocodilian creature. Perhaps a section and a 5-10 minute video each on how to use the various available tools in 3DCoat: Clay Engine - Base Clay - Wet Clay etc... Voxel Tools - Vox Clay - Grow etc... This would be far more useful knowing how to properly use each tool, before watching someone sculpt something. It's like diving right into sculpting something, before learning what each of the available tools are in the sculpting software. I'll admit that it's almost a no-brainer to just sculpt something using the voxel tools, but what if you want something complex and need to use something like Vox Slice, Measure, Cut Off, Curves, etc... In most cases, I find myself having to waste a lot of time experimenting how some of these tools work. I do know that there's a few YouTube videos of random stuff on 3DCoat, but having an all-in-one package tutorial/guide, would be of great benefit.
  5. A couple of wishes on my list: 1) Can we have an app-link to move back and forth between 3DCoat and Reallusion's Character Creator and iClone? The one thing that is lacking with 3DCoat is that you can't rig bones. Reallusion's AccuRIG system also utilizes a voxelized smoothed mesh weights. Character Creator could prove useful for kitbashing and easy way to edit character looks as well as rigging character models? 2) I'm not sure if there's something like this existing but extrude or boolean comes close. A guide line system in which you can have a line, plane, curve, etc... in which when you add clay to the model, the guide line(s) act as a barrier to prevent the voxels from spilling over/out. Maybe make this an extension of the measure tool for the lines you draw and use it as a guideline in which voxels won't go past this line? Or even use a surface model (as a reference) as a bounding box/area in which will contain the voxel model and keep any voxels from spilling out of the surface model? 3) Maybe add a feature in which when you import a 2D image as a reference image, the voxel clay will automatically take shape of the 2D image you import in orthographic view (as a starting point), both X and Y axis (or you can do this in just one of the axis)? For those of us who don't have a lot of time on our hands, anything that could help speed up a sculpt is appreciated. 4) Seems like the directional keys on a keyboard isn't used for anything (by default). Maybe use them in a way in which you can also control the camera? So in this case, pressing the LEFT key on the keyboard will rotate the camera left around the model (in 45 degree increments, or whatever the user decides)? The RIGHT key does the opposite. The UP key can rotate the camera upwards and DOWN key is opposite of the UP key. 5) I would love to see a hair room, in which we could create hairs using hair cards or hair particles. Maybe someone has already mentioned this? 6) An improved version of the Vox Hide tool. The only thing that works better than Vox Hide is Cell, but When using either Vox Hide or Cell, there should be an option that allows the user to auto-freeze the edges, so that the edges can't move while you sculpt and the portion of the voxel hidden areas can remain unaffected. An example, is when you're working on fingers or toes, you often need to hide certain fingers or toes and when your brush gets close to the hidden edges of the voxel, it deforms, instead of retaining its shape (between the hidden and unhidden areas). 7) Maybe it's just me, but the Vox Hide tool doesn't seem to work as intended when using various lasso tools. Even if I have the ignore back faces toggled on, I should be able to just hide the voxels all the way through, but it doesn't.
  6. I have a Surface Book i7 with 16GB of RAM and it's also the performance base version. I notice lots of lag during sculpting with the Surface Pen. I've also downloaded that zip file with the 3D Coat Pressure Test. It seems like the GL version has a slightly higher FPS than the DX version on my Surface Book. Is there an actual fix available or are we stuck with the extreme lag for those like me who are using a tablet with pen input?
