  1. Hi, I was wondering if the following workflow is possible: 1: Sculpt a model using voxels and/or surface tools. 2: Use Autopo to give a nice quad topology to the mesh. 3: From the Retopo room, send the retopo object back to the Sculpt room, so you can sculpt on the retopologized mesh. I guess a workaround is to export the retopo mesh and import it into the Sculpt room, but I hope that isn't necessary. Thanks, Metin

    New quad auto-retopology algorithm

Hi, For some reason I can't seem to start a new topic in the Feature Requests section, so I thought to post this here: The new Quadriflow auto-retopology algorithm looks very promising. It includes an option for sharp edges as well. It would be fabulous if Instant Meshes could be upgraded to Quadriflow in 3D-Coat. Quadriflow has much less singularities and triangle dead-ends than Instant Meshes, and better support for sharp edges. Many thanks in advance!
  3. I agree. Radeon ProRender is a fast renderer that is actively developed, and works great with AMD cards on a Mac. I'm very satisfied using it in Blender.

    3DCoat 4.8 BETA testing thread

Hi, I recently installed the latest 3D-Coat for macOS (4.8.26), and noticed the following: I start 3D-Coat and choose auto-retopology, then after the window with the initial settings I press S and check x symmetry. Subsequently I press Next in the following requesters, because I want to skip the density painting and guide drawing. Finally, nothing happens. I just see the imported mesh, without Autopo. So I need to right-click on the imported mesh layer and reinitialize Autopo to make it work. Is this a bug or is there a specific moment you need to activate symmetry? A symmetry option in the initial Autopo options would be more convenient. Thanks.
  5. Thanks @Carlosan. 1.7 is the update that was released a month ago. For a moment I thought there was a brand new version. I'm eagerly awaiting a version that supports vertex paint. Until then you're stuck with UV-mapped texturing.
  6. Nice! But where can you read about the new features?

    New quad auto-retopology algorithm

I did that a number of years ago. I'm now using macOS.

    New quad auto-retopology algorithm

You da man, @Makketronics, many thanks!

    New quad auto-retopology algorithm

Cool! Too bad I can't use it, because I'm on macOS. But maybe @Andrew Shpagin is already implementing it for the next 3D-Coat update.

    New quad auto-retopology algorithm

Thanks @Makketronics. In my case I'd need a macOS Terminal command, but it's a good initiative that you're trying to make it accessible for Windows users.

    New quad auto-retopology algorithm

My pleasure, @Andrew Shpagin. It'd be great if Quadriflow could be added to 3D-Coat. Thanks!
  12. Cool. I requested the Ambient Occlusion at the ProRender development forum, and they implemented it.
  13. Hi, I'm pleased to announce that I reinitiated a former activity of mine — training people to learn or improve a visual skill, 2D and/or 3D. 3D-Coat is one of the 3D editors I'm using in my workshops. A training takes place in the Netherlands, in my studio or on location, so it will be mostly interesting for Dutch and Flemish people. More info can be found on my site: metinseven.com Regards, — Metin
  14. Yep, it's a very nice renderer. Fast, especially on AMD GPUs, and it works intuitively if you're used to GI renderers such as Blender's Cycles.

Interesting, thanks @Michaelgdrs. I'll do some tests too.

    3DCoat 4.8 BETA testing thread

Well said, @AbnRanger. I've recently written a simple review of auto-retopo algorithms, with Autopo being the winner, as far as I'm concerned.

    3DCoat 4.8 BETA testing thread

That's also my impression, but I'd love to know if some fine-tuning has been performed, as I love 3D-Coat's auto-retopo a lot.

    3DCoat 4.8 BETA testing thread

Looks good indeed, but has 3D-Coat's native auto-retopo been improved as well? I thought only the Instant Meshes algorithm was added.

    Thank you, @iceage, appreciated.
  20. Hi, I wrote an evaluation of the two best 3D auto-retopology algorithms available today — 3D Coat's Autopo and ZBrush's ZRemesher. Read the article here. Regards, Metin

    3DCoat 4.8 BETA testing thread

Hi, I've been away from 3D-Coat for a while because of a move to a different computer. I'd like to reinstall 3D-Coat now on the other machine (I've deactivated my license on the previous machine), but I'd like to know: can I install the latest beta download right away and activate my license, or do I need to install the official 3D-Coat 4.8 release first? Thanks, Metin

    3DCoat 4.8 BETA testing thread

Hi Andrew, Many thanks for the new beta. The latest MacOS beta download in your initial post is version 4.8.04, is that correct? If that's correct, then the Constructor tool snapping still doesn't work correctly on MacOS. It's the same as in the previous beta: the Smart Placement option only works in a few cases, like in corners that have three surrounding walls, and the same goes for the Place Edges tool. Only the Place Corners tool works as expected. Regards, Metin
